Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space
Chapter 433: Menstruation
CHAPTER 433: CHAPTER 433: MENSTRUATION
Old Lady Hua and Yun Niang have already started getting busy; besides the needlework, there are also two looms in the living room, where Yun Niang is sitting at one, skillfully weaving away.
The loom was set up by Hua Chengtian, of course, after extensively studying others for several days and successfully replicating it.
In farming households, few don’t know how to weave, and Old Lady Hua and Qi are no exception. In the past, the family’s men didn’t want them to be overtired, so they forbade weaving. Actually, there was a loom, but it was simply left there and eventually used as firewood.
Recently, they’ve been too idle; it’s too hot outside to stay out long, and they can’t just keep doing needlework all the time, not to mention wasting fabric and thread. Mainly, there’s not that much work to do, so to pass the time, the two elders thought of weaving. On one hand, it can pass the time; on the other hand, after it’s woven, they can sell it in the grocery store. Anyway, it’s a win-win.
When Hua Jin came over, Grandma and Mom were head to head, studying embroidery skills, while the second sister-in-law was actively weaving.
Every time Hua Jin watched the flowing movements of the second sister-in-law’s weaving, she was in awe. Such technical work truly requires talent, which she genuinely lacks.
Just recently, Mom and Grandma have been sternly guiding her, plus she feels a bit guilty and cooperates, but even so, she can only manage to make clothes herself, with slightly straight lines, which is nowhere near their craftsmanship.
"You’re here," Old Lady Hua immediately beamed when she saw her granddaughter and waved her into the seat next to her.
As soon as Hua Jin sat down, a piece of embroidered cloth was shoved into her hands.
Hua Jin really didn’t like embroidery needles, but at this moment, it served to pass the time.
Nowadays, whatever she planned to do seemed impractical; even her practice became restricted to the spatial room.
However, Dad, eldest brother, second brother, and Xiao Si remained steadfast. Even though the heat nearly caused heatstroke, they persisted, practicing for an hour every day at dawn.
Especially Xiao Si’s dedication to practice earned Hua Jin’s admiration, and thanks to this persistence, he’s indeed grasped some secrets, moving much faster than before in his movement technique. To this day, besides sleeping at night, he never takes off his sandbags, which his sister also admires.
Sitting there for half a day was truly a big challenge for Hua Jie’s patience. When the sunset came and the dusk fell, Dahei and the others appeared in the yard, granting Hua Jin a reprieve as she threw down the embroidery cloth and ran to the yard to chase after Dahei and the others.
Dahei’s appearance signifies the drop in temperature.
"This child," Old Lady Hua and Qi shook their heads with a helpless smile, casting their glance at the cloth Hua Jin dropped.
A crooked, uncertain object that might be grass or a stem stood out starkly on the embroidered cloth. Even though they’ve seen it many times, the mother and daughter couldn’t help but twitch their lips.
Sigh! It’s already considered pretty decent; at least you can somewhat tell what it resembles. Recalling the tangled mess of lines from before, they felt a tiny bit comforted.
The evening meal was prepared by Qi and the two daughters-in-law together.
As always, Qi doted on her daughters-in-law, picking dishes for them to eat. Daya, delightedly eating the pickled fish offered by her mother-in-law, suddenly felt her stomach churn as this usually delicious dish stirred her gut, her complexion suddenly changed, and she covered her mouth, ran to the yard, and began vomiting.
The unexpected reaction stunned everyone; Hua Yunao reacted the fastest, following his wife outside, his face pale with worry.
"What’s wrong, Xiniang? Is your stomach upset?"
Maybe it’s learned behavior, but the men of the Hua family are particularly caring towards their wives, and Hua Yunao was no exception. His worried voice carried into the house, and hearing the persistent retching sounds, Qi and Old Lady Hua couldn’t sit still and also followed out, while Hua Jin and Yun Niang hurriedly tagged along, leaving only the men at the table, visibly displaying the same concern.
Hua Yunao, worriedly patting Daya’s back, had frown lines so deep they could squash a mosquito.
"Quick, rinse your mouth." Old Lady Hua emerged with a bowl of water and hastily handed it to her grandson.
"Thanks, Grandma," Hua Yunao accepted it and inwardly cursed himself for not thinking of it, then directly fed it to Daya’s lips.
Having been married for several months, Daya was no longer the shy person she initially was. Besides, her mouth was genuinely uncomfortable, and without much thought, she took a sip to rinse.
"What’s wrong? Why suddenly vomit? Yunao, did you keep the room too cold with too much ice?" Old Lady Hua glared at her eldest grandson.
"It must be this guy; otherwise, why would Daya feel unwell," Qi chimed in, unable to resist giving her eldest son a pat.
Hua Yunao: "..."
"Grandma, Mom, it’s not my husband’s fault; the fish is just too fishy." Seeing her husband blamed by her mother-in-law and grandmother, Daya couldn’t bear it and immediately defended him.
Her husband had already been very accommodating; there were just two pieces of ice in the room, just enough to not feel hot. She didn’t feel cold either; it was simply the sudden overpowering fishiness that made her want to vomit.
Seeing her defend him, Hua Yunao’s heart warmed, his gaze was tender enough to drip water as he lightly patted her hand, signaling her not to worry.
"It’s really not from the cold?" Old Lady Hua, still somewhat skeptical, glared at her grandson.
"Grandma, really no," Hua Yunao replied, both laughing and crying.
Although being wrongfully accused, he was quite happy inside; this showed Grandma and Mom liked his wife, unlike in other families where mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law clashed, causing endless chaos.
"Then why suddenly vomit?"
Considering her age, Old Lady Hua hadn’t thought it through, but Qi silently pondered while looking at her daughter-in-law, and then at her son.
Hua Jin, holding a cloth, wiped water from her sister-in-law’s mouth. Watching the retching but nothing coming out made Hua Jin’s stomach feel queasy too.
"Sister-in-law, are you okay?"
Hua Jin’s concern earned a reassuring smile from Daya, "I’m fine, much better. Don’t worry!"
Yun Niang quickly pulled over a stool from the yard for Daya to sit on.
Looking at the multitude of caring eyes around her, the continuous churning feeling in her stomach suddenly eased, and she finally didn’t feel like vomiting anymore.
"Xiniang." Qi’s eyes suddenly brightened, "You..."
"Mom?" Daya looked at her mother-in-law in confusion, not understanding why she stopped mid-sentence.
With everyone’s gaze upon her, Qi glanced toward the living room and lowered her voice slightly, "Xiniang, did your period come this month?"
Hearing "period" from her mother-in-law, even with only her husband beside her, Daya couldn’t help but feel shy.
"No," she shook her head under her mother-in-law’s gaze but didn’t overthink. Her period had never been regular, sometimes coming only every two or three months.
Old Lady Hua suddenly opened her eyes wide, and realizing the situation brought a stroke of joy across her face. Seeing her granddaughter-in-law again, her eyes carried more urgency.
Even Hua Jin realized it and brightened her eyes, glancing towards Daya’s stomach.
Could it be...?
Given that they’ve been married several months now, it’s not uncommon for couples to have children soon after marriage. If the eldest sister-in-law is really pregnant, it’s perfectly normal.
Hua Jin couldn’t help but feel anticipation swelling.
Hua Yunao looked at his Mom, then at his wife, not understanding their hint. What does a wife feeling unwell have to do with periods... his face turned red.
