CHAPTER 69: DISCIPLE CULTIVATION SYSTEM CH69 IT CAN’T BE HELPED.

Kai was someone who hardly paid attention to others.

He preferred to keep his eyes on those important and ignore those who held little value to him.

He wasn’t looking down on those persons, he just didn’t see a need to keep them in his sights.

So as the next words left his mouth, the only individual he noticed was the white-haired girl.

She was quite beautiful and her sharp eyes, fierce but charming, had a way of shaking one’s heart. But it wasn’t her beauty he cared about, rather the hidden strength he could sense within her.

Hidden wasn’t quite the word... rather, untapped.

She was like a hot spring buried deep underground, awaiting to be drilled into for its full glory to be seen by all.

"She might even be more powerful than Trish," he muttered, intrigued.

Of course, Trish wasn’t the apex of power for the first year. That notion was false... a mere misinformation so the true talents could lay hidden.

"Your name... what is it?"

A step bridged the gap between them as he stared intently at her grey eyes, seeking answers.

Val stammered back, and Kurt attempted to intervene, but a mere glance from Kai sent him flying out of the store, shattering the glass door in the process.

"Kurt!" Val screamed and ran to aid him.

"Sorry about that."

Grabbing her hand before she could flee, Kai apologized, his own cold eyes now lukewarm.

Before Val could unleash among him generation curses, he added,

"My intent is repel. It creates a passive bubble around me. I forgot to shut it off before he touched me."

"But..."

"Don’t worry, Kiara will handle his wounds."

Letting go of her, he assured, throwing Kiara a glance.

The witch nodded and strode out towards Kurt to treat any wound he might have sustained.

"Now that I have assured your safety, might you tell me your name?" he asked, this time his tone much softer.

"Val... Valaria!"

Val hesitated, concern still filling her heart.

Just like Trish, Kai also held with him a strange and eerily alike presence.

It was less prominent, and he seemed to be more in control, but she could clearly tell he was dangerous.

"Valaria..." Kai ended up muttering, searching his thoughts, eagerly trying to make a connection.

"Ah... I see. You’re the Spear’s pupil."

"Yes," she responded.

"Then you are also a fellow colleague of the Seven."

His softened gaze grew more guarded after knowing her identity.

"Then you will be useful against our gatekeeper," he remarked, finding her presence valuable.

"I’ll have to decline."

"Might I know the reason at the very least?"

He wasn’t particularly shocked. After all, he was used to getting rejected.

"I made a promise with someone, and I’m not sure I might still be in this game after I fulfill the promise."

"I see."

Kai sounded disappointed, and rightly so, but he didn’t force it upon her nor did he threaten to eliminate her.

He offered, and she refused. There was nothing more to say.

So he reached out to Enko and attempted to take her away.

Kiara, aiding Kurt walk, entered right after and smiled at Valaria.

"Trish is no longer among us... so I would advise you take us up on their offer."

Val furrowed, and Kai threw her a glance in confusion.

"What do you mean?" they questioned in unison.

"Our tragic heroine found something more important than a promise with you. She spent her last seconds with that handsome teacher of hers. It was quite romantic too, I do say myself."

Letting go of Kurt, she approached Val, giggling and took hold of her hand.

"She grabbed his just like this and..."

Tracing her fingers across Val’s hand, she grabbed her wrist and placed it on her chest, directly where her heart was.

"...stabbed herself."

Her eyes sparkled with amusement as she left a sour taste in Val’s lips.

"I can’t believe that girl went against our promise after hyping it up so much."

She was actually happy since she would no longer suffer a humiliating defeat, but a part of her was annoyed at how Trish had just left without saying anything.

In essence, everything Art had done to her the previous day amounted to nothing.

"Kiara, how do you know this?"

Dragging Kiara away for a private chat, Kai remarked, his tone threatening.

"...I just know." The witch tried playing it off.

"Do you spy on her with your magic!"

It was no longer a question but rather a conclusion Kai had arrived at.

Kiara had been with him after they left Trish, meaning the only way she would have known about Trish’s predicament and elimination would have been if she spied on them.

"This wasn’t a scouting mission. No orders were given and yet—"

"It’s my magic," she interrupted and thrusted a finger forward.

"I decide how and when to use it."

"No, you don’t."

Slapping her finger away, Kai complained.

"I’m no mage... witch, but I’ve read the magic standards, and I know what you did was a violation of many of them."

Magic was dangerous solely because of its versatility. It could be virtually used for anything, and because of that, rules had to be made to control its usage.

Among them, spying was an immoral conduct.

Had it been the first time, he wouldn’t have made much fuss about it, but it wasn’t.

It never would be.

"Are you done?"

Seeing him so defeated and unable to continue, Kiara watched him intently.

Her gaze was challenging, because to her, it wasn’t words or a lecture that would change her.

It was action.

And as long as Kai remained in that cold shell of his, he would never act willingly.

"Just forget it."

After seconds of observing him and noticing not so much as a crack in his exterior, she backed off.

"It seems Trish wasn’t the only one to change over the years."

Muttering so, she walked away in disappointment.
