CHAPTER 83: DISCIPLE CULTIVATION SYSTEM CH83 LOST DAYS PT1
Kai and Kiara paced towards the event hall from the other end.
Kai, positioning himself in front of Kiara, clutched a sleek black longsword covered in ancient patterns.
As they both raced up the stairs, they witnessed the corpses of fallen students.
Kiara was neutral and kept her calm, trying her best to pay no heed to the gore.
As for Kai, his arms trembled and his eyes grew hollow.
Most of the faces now dead he particularly knew nothing about, but it foretold a grim future.
One he didn’t want befalling any of those he cared about.
"Kai, we need to get out of here."
Kiara’s suggestion was the most logical course of action and the kind he would have taken, was his reason not currently twisted.
"I can’t leave!"
Stopping at the final step leading inside, he responded without an ounce of hesitation.
"I might die... my goal might go unfinished, killing a saint demanded another to replace them. I want to be that someone. So how can I live with myself if I ran now?"
He feared for his life. That was a primal emotion, something even the strongest of beings weren’t immune to, but he didn’t let his fear dictate for him.
"I can do something, and so can you."
He presented that option to Kiara, who was unwilling to move forward.
"I’m scared."
A tremor spread through the academy as she spoke.
"I don’t want to die. I also don’t want you or Enko to die either. I can’t fight for this, but I’ll bring someone who can."
Right under Kai’s eyes a portal manifested underneath her, and just as she entered—
"A runaway!"
A sharp axe spun through the air in an attempt to impale her. Kai, who had been on guard, reacted just in time, tugging Kiara into the portal before awkwardly parrying the blow.
"You’re pretty strong for your age."
Descending from above, a muscular tanned woman with black hair and an eyepatch covering her left eye landed before him, the resulting crash leaving a crater in the ground.
"You could have escaped with her, but you stayed behind. What a noble soul you are..."
With a flick of her finger, she willed her axe back and smirked at his chivalry.
"The name’s Beatrice, the Butcher. What’s your—"
Kai moved before she could even finish, his blade laced with his aura and infused with his intent tracing a ruthless cut at Beatrice.
But—
"Kids these days are so impatient."
She fended off his blow with a heavy swing that gouged out the ground and sent Kai flying down the stairs.
"Repel!"
Right as he crashed into the ground he whispered.
Traces of his aura lingering in Beatrice’s axe ignited, and her axe was launched into the air, completely escaping her grip.
"Woah!" she exclaimed in amazement, leaping upward to grab her axe.
Kai, getting to his feet, angled the tip of his blade at the airborne woman and threw his sword at her with all his might.
It clashed with her hand going for the axe, altering it just enough for her to miss.
He then ran up the stairs, launched himself at the wall, before kicking off them to join Beatrice in the air.
Beatrice, ignoring her axe, clenched her fist and infused it with her aura, a vibrant yellow.
Taking a page out of Kai’s book, she activated her intent [Lure] and yanked her arm backward.
Kai, pulled forward by an invisible force, paled as Beatrice unloaded onto him a punch straight into his gut.
"Cough..."
The sheer pain caused him to groan as he spat out blood, but her attack wasn’t over as she grabbed a hold of his collar, spun him around and launched him back onto the ground with the force of a canon.
The ground shook as he landed in a crater of his own making.
"Ughhhh!"
Watching him scream and roll in agony, Beatrice, grasping a hold of her axe, laced it’s tip with aura and brandished it down while she fell.
With the aid of gravity and aura she aimed at cleaving him in two.
Kai, watching her descent, focused his intent around his arm and caught her strike.
A revolting shockwave exploded around them and her axe tore through his palms, sinking so deep it left his palm attached to his wrist by a string of flesh.
[Repel]
His aura intensified and his intent flowed through the axe.
Beatrice, right onto him, refused to budge.
She also activated her’s as a clash of intent raptured through her axe.
The ground groaned under the intense clash and the axe burning with fierce aura began to shake violently.
Beads of sweat began trickling down Kai’s forehead while Beatrice’s face began to take on a cruel smile.
Each second she pushed the blade of her axe into his palms, the more joy she felt.
True to her name, she was a butcher—but not of animal flesh.
The flesh she worked with was human.
Stripping them of their blood, cutting through the skin, cleaving their muscles and bones apart, and taking their organs into storage.
It wasn’t just a pleasure for her but business.
Folks would pay billions just for human organs, and in this job she not only was allowed the pleasure of butchering human meat but also earning money.
"Your chivalrous heart would definitely be a delicacy to a vampire I know."
As she taunted, she applied even more strength, tearing deeper into his palms.
The tip of the axe now coming out the other side, dug into his shirt and soon penetrated his chest, sinking deeper into his flesh.
"Arghhhh!"
Kai screamed as he experienced pain unlike any other and yet his aura and intent didn’t die.
They intensified.
Beatrice in response strengthened her own, but...
Lure attracted and Repel fended off.
They were complete opposites, but one had an advantage in this situation.
Lure was being attracted to Kai via the residues of aura Beatrice left on him, while Kai was actively repelling her axe.
In a clash there was only one thing for Kai to do...
Repel grew stronger the more force was applied. Right now their ongoing feedback was supercharging the forces behind the axe, so his action was simple.
He kept his intent on the axe but circulated his aura throughout his body.
It weakened his grip and the axe dug deeper and deeper into his chest.
It was a well-known fact that the more spread out reinforcement or coating was, the less effective it was, but in this context he was using it for another reason.
Beatrice’s aura had been imprinted on him upon contact. It was what was attracting the axe onto him.
So by washing himself in his own aura, he got rid of the residues, negating her intent on him.
"You... how did—"
Right as she figured out what he was doing, Kai unleashed a desperate scream, repelling the axe at Beatrice.
Her intent, which seemed to attract things to her aura, was no longer effective on him, meaning it was her strength against his aura and intent.
The winner was quite clear as the axe propelled itself at her.
She tried escaping, but Kai strangled her leg and kept her in place as the spinning axe tore through her body and turned her into minced meat.
Having been below her, her blood and gore splattered down onto him like dirty rain.
He hated it, but he couldn’t complain, so he shoved her corpse aside and struggled to get up.
Unfortunately for him, the feedback and the cut deep in his heart weakened him, and he fell to the ground, a bloody axe impaling the ground inches away from his head.
