Chapter 30 : Village Chief’s Quest

Axton squashed Silva and his members of Grand Nexus like they were nothing but ants under the feet of his summon.

He then unsummoned to observe the aftermath of what happened.

It was meant to be a battle but Axton had brought a machine gun to a sword fight.

He was not going to let anything linger more than necessary as he did not want to take any risks, since he knew nothing about their abilities, including Silva’s.

Axton did not leave room for any surprises and that was why he sought to end things quickly.

With such a beast under his command, there was a large gap between them that Silva and his comrades could not close up.

Not any time soon either.

After Axton was done with defeating the demon black cat, he triggered a village announcement and earned some rewards that totalled about 100 mythical points and 10,000 reputation points.

His name was spread more and more, and never for the same reason.

It was as though the game of New Eden was made specially to favour him no matter what he did.

Others simply couldn’t understand it.

This was beyond a stroke of luck.

When the news spread about what happened to Silva and his group, it was going to be another wave of chaos, considering how impossible it is to conceive such in one’s mind.

Defeating hundreds of monsters at this stage of the game would make sense since the majority of the said monsters did not have an intelligence that would be considered a threat.

That was different, by a vast comparison, to defeating a hundred players who are humans like himself and have intelligence.

On paper, it was meant to be more of a bullying than a battle and in favour of Silva and Grand Nexus in the end.

However, the reverse was the case this time around.

Axton would certainly receive high reverence from his fellow players as well as some levels of envy, jealousy and hostility.

He knew this and he expected it.

(Respawn Plan AKA Soul Space)

The soul space in New Eden was a realm where slain characters hung like souls waiting to be respawn or deleted, depending on which follows afterwards.

Silva and his groups were floating in this space waiting for their respawn to happen.

Returning to the game happened mostly in one of two major ways.

The first was by using coins to force a respawn. The said player would lose a significant amount of coins to get his character back into the game.

The second was the auto resurrection which happens automatically after one hour after a character is killed.

They did not have the coins to spend at this stage since a force respawn requires gold coins and they were barely able to come across silver coins currently.

Silva, like the others, had to wait for the one hour time limit to elapse before they could return to the game.

It was a painful thing.

While they were stuck in the soul space, other players would be leveling up and growing their characters, further widening the gap in strength.

To make matters worse, Silva and the others would be automatically stepped down by one level and drop one of their items, which they did not have much to start with.

All their efforts were basically a waste.

Silva couldn’t help but be bitter.

One hour eventually ended and Silva respawned with the others.

The first thing he did was send a message to the rest of Grand Nexus members who did not follow him to the fight because they were lower level players.

The message was simple and direct. "Level up."

Silva clenched his fist and ground his teeth.

’I guess I will have to do it,’ he thought to himself.

Silva’s face soon became blank.

He took deep, long breaths as he thought about something.

Before going to face Axton, Silva had received a quest which if he had completed, would bring him massive rewards.

However, failure also came with severe punishments and this made him hesitate since he was afraid of losing his character progress, only for Axton to make him lose it in the end.

This time around, Silva was willing to complete that quest.

"Whatever will happen should happen," he muttered under his breath.

Axton quickly returned to the novice village and sought out the village chief.

All the while he was laughing.

’I knew that the rumour about the village chief not being able to give quests was nonsense. Thank goodness, I didn’t believe it.’

He believed it was a tactic by another player or set of players to stop others from approaching the village chief for quests.

"You have returned already," the village chief asked him with a smile. "How was your hunt?"

Axton nodded with a cheerful expression.

"It was great, sir. Thanks for your advice," he said with a bow, expressing his gratitude.

Axton then summoned the scroll into his palm and handed it over to the chief. "I have something for you."

The village chief squinted his eyes, hesitant at first but went on to take the scroll.

Immediately it entered his hand, Axton said the keywords as instructed in the quest scroll.

"From darkness to light."

The village chief was surprised at first, before his eyes revealed a pleasant expression.

"From darkness, light is born. From destruction, a new beginning comes. A rebirth. A chance to start over."

Axton was confused since he didn’t know what was supposed to happen after he said what he said.

The village chief took a few steps close to him.

"I intentionally left that scroll tied to the black cat and direct people that I believe will be able to get it to defeat the monster," he said, revealing the truth of the whole thing.

"Only you have succeeded. You are indeed a true warrior."

Axton bowed in respect. "Thank you for considering me, sir."
