Chapter 1561: Chapter 1562: Passage
“What a nasty fellow he must be. I wonder what the mastermind looks like. I’d love to have a good showdown with him~”
Veronia leaned on her chin, her expression ambiguous. She indeed felt an urge to thrash this peculiar guy, and although no casualties had resulted, wasn’t the current chaos already troublesome enough?
“Forget it. The rat is hiding too well. I don’t have the energy to dig out that little rat from its nest.”
With a shrug, Feng Yuan casually remarked, but just then, a bolt of lightning struck in front of him. Curling his lip, Feng Yuan disdainfully said,
“Tsk! Can you believe some people can’t even take a hint when they’re the ones causing trouble?”
Although disgruntled, Feng Yuan didn’t continue his rant. After allocating the different passageways among the team, everyone quickly sprang into action. Feng Yuan couldn’t ascertain what the other side was thinking; the passageways matched their number exactly. However, there was still room for maneuver regarding what he intended to do.
“Big Cat, you and Kong Qing will follow Wu Dingwu and Tan Xueluo respectively. As for those two Little White Wolves, they’ll go with you, Qi Chen.”
Feng Yuan wore a strange smile as he spoke. Yes, the passageways indeed appeared according to their number, even counting the Divine Beasts, but for some reason, neither Big Cat nor the others seemed to be included. Maybe they were underestimated, or there was another reason entirely.
Not considering the Coming of the Future that elevated the White Wolf to Legendary Level, Big Cat might look clueless at times, but Feng Yuan believed it had the capability to handle unexpected situations. Entrusting it to help protect Wu Dingwu was more than adequate, and as for Kong Qing?
Despite not reaching Legendary Level through the Coming of the Future, Kong Qing was naturally a Space Series Divine Beast, unlike Xiao Ji. It had strong control over its power and authority. Even without Legendary Level strength, in genuine combat, it might not have been bested by ordinary Legendary Level foes.
Tan Xueluo didn’t quite understand why Feng Yuan would have Kong Qing follow her, but she had no objections. She believed that even without relying on others, her Legendary Level Panshi could handle most battles. Moreover, given the peculiar Spirit Beasts surrounding Feng Yuan, Kong Qing might possess some special qualities as well.
As they entered the passageway, the door behind them automatically closed. Feng Yuan scratched his head and said,
“I don’t understand what that fellow is thinking. Really? This lousy door could stop me?”
Though he said so, Feng Yuan had no intent to destroy anything. He continued walking forward with Xiao Ji. The pitch-black Ancient Book was stored away, and the nine little shields turned into a Greatsword. Casually swinging the Greatsword, Feng Yuan said,
“You should stay in the rear to provide support. This place is too cramped, not suitable for your type of fight. Also, I suspect the enemies here might have mirror reflection abilities. Hmm, like the ability to reflect pure energy ultimate moves, just like when Big Cat blew up that hall.”
While saying this, crystal constructs started rising slowly from the corridor ahead. Thinking about Big Cat’s previous mishap, Feng Yuan couldn’t help but worry, hoping Big Cat wouldn’t forget.
As the crystal constructs rushed forward, Feng Yuan had no time for extra thought. Swinging the Greatsword, he charged ahead. Xiao Ji flapped its wings, intending to unleash a powerful attack, but remembering Feng Yuan’s earlier words, it hesitated, only using Wind Blades. As expected, once the Wind Blades struck the crystal constructs, they instantly reflected as if light hitting a mirror.
“Tch, this is quite a hassle.”
With a curl of his lip, Feng Yuan said, looking at Xiao Ji, which had now dashed forward to assist him with pecks and claw strikes. Thinking of Cotton’s situation, Feng Yuan felt fortunate that the two Little White Wolves, split from the White Wolf Deity, were assisting them.
Big Cat meowed repeatedly, commanding the adventurers it summoned to attack continuously. Wu Dingwu’s Grey Corner leaned more towards energy-based attacks. If not for Big Cat’s five berserker adventurers, he would have been in trouble.
Using Grey Corner’s sensory transmission ability, Wu Dingwu watched as the berserker adventurers wielded their weapons, smashing the crystal constructs to pieces. He hadn’t realized how formidable the Spirit Beasts accompanying Feng Yuan were. Although he had played many games, this was the first time he’d seen game characters and combat styles materialize in the real world.
Thinking that Big Cat was a Spirit Beast beside Feng Yuan and not a Beast Tamer’s companion, and noticing Big Cat seemed uninterested in forming a Taming Beast Contract, Wu Dingwu had an idea, but he merely planned to get acquainted with Big Cat. He didn’t know Big Cat’s intentions or if they would get along.
He didn’t favor Class 1’s might-makes-right approach. While Big Cat intrigued him, he ultimately relied on fate.
Cotton meowed, unlike Grey Corner, unable to transmit its sensory detection using special abilities. With the space still flooded with dazzling light, unless there was a close bond with one’s Beast, one would surely suffer, unless the Beast could transmit or share sensory data.
Gently stroking Cotton’s fur, Dou Yanlan couldn’t understand what Cotton was saying, but their long familiarity allowed her to guess its meaning. However, not seeing its movements led to some uncertainty.
Amid the sounds of battle and glass shattering, she deduced that the Little White Wolves were likely responsible. Though she couldn’t see the foes, she imagined them akin to crystal constructs lying in ambush.
Guided cautiously by Ah Mu, Qi Chen walked through the passageway. Ah Mu had to alter its form and use the White Wolf Deity’s strength just to fit through this relatively narrow corridor. The Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts nestled in the A Mu Tree Crown, occasionally barking at the crystal constructs ahead.
Though these three little fellows had weak power and no combat strength, they could see everything around them, unhindered by the intense light.
Ah Mu wielded its vines, continuously whipping the crystal constructs. Despite hearing the sounds of battle, Qi Chen could do little to assist Ah Mu. Though his combat intuition told him the enemies’ locations, it was pointless because Ah Mu could already sense the environment.
The Little White Wolf stood silently beside them, refraining from action as long as Ah Mu held its own. It was as if Feng Yuan accompanied just to watch and hone their practical skills.
Fortunately, Ah Mu’s abilities surpassed Qi Chen’s expectations. Although Qi Chen couldn’t direct it, Ah Mu could easily lead him forward, as could Liao Yu and Huo Feng.
Liao Yu had a natural synergy with his Beast that Qi Chen and the others couldn’t match. Years of rapport allowed Big Dog and Great Mountain to communicate precisely with even a casual noise. As for Huo Feng, his situation was unique. While he occasionally exchanged words with Big Black and Awu, more often than not, he relied solely on tacit understanding.
As he progressed, Feng Yuan grew slightly bored. Stabbing the Greatsword into the ground, he turned to Xiao Ji and said,
“How about you take the lead for a while?”
Xiao Ji shook its head, spreading its wings, and let out an unsure cry. Despite its less effective energy attacks, its melee skills were much inferior. Noticing Xiao Ji’s reluctance, Feng Yuan shrugged helplessly,
“Alright, I almost forgot.”
Throwing the Greatsword into the air, it split apart into nine small swords that hovered around. Xiao Ji, witnessing this, let out an exasperated screech. Feng Yuan chuckled and said,
“Isn’t this fun~? There’s nothing like wielding a sword by hand~”
Though he said this, Feng Yuan intended not to fight further, leaving the nine Flying Swords to attack on their own as he dashed forward with Xiao Ji. Along the path, crystal constructs ceaselessly tried to intercept them, but Feng Yuan and Xiao Ji evaded deftly. Only when a large gathering of constructs amassed behind them would he unleash an Arrow Rain to eliminate numerous foes.
“Puzzles? Tch! This is downright troublesome.”
Using his Divine Sense, Feng Yuan discerned the spherical chamber at the end of the passage. Annoyed, he realized the spherical walls had many gaps, while numerous fragments floated in the chamber. No explanation was needed; Feng Yuan knew what needed to be done. Yet, dealing with the intense light here was trivial for him, but troublesome for Qi Chen, who couldn’t see these things clearly.
Whether they could solve the puzzle with just their Beasts remained uncertain.
