CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 28: DON’T DEBASE YOURSELF!

The colorful lights made her dizzy.

The heavy bass notes pounded against her heart like drumbeats.

When her wrist was grabbed, Serena Sinclair instinctively shook it off.

Turning back, she met Adrian Lockwood’s smiling face.

With just one glance, Serena could see he was aroused.

Just like when he used to come home drunk.

"Adrian, did you just come out of the bathroom empty-handed?"

Serena stepped back, "There’s something called a mirror, it’s much more effective!"

Adrian’s expression darkened a bit.

Thinking it over, they had been in a deadlock recently, and now she had followed him here, which was like giving him an out.

If he still didn’t take the step down, it would be too tactless.

Adrian decided to give her this face-saving moment.

"Alright, I won’t say it anymore..."

Grabbing her wrist again, Adrian pulled Serena out of the hall.

As soon as they reached the corridor, he turned and pressed Serena against the wall, "Serena, I know you’re shy; it hasn’t been easy for you to take this step. Your husband appreciates it!"

"Can we both take a step back, okay?"

Behind him was the intensely rhythmic music, each beat seemed to rush into his blood, making him feel hot-blooded.

He wanted to hold Serena tight in his arms and crash into her with the rhythm of the notes.

In front of him was Serena’s white, cold but stunningly beautiful face.

For a moment, Adrian felt like he was back to when he was pursuing Serena, and she treated him coldly, responding only reluctantly.

Back then, she was as cold as an iceberg.

Once melted, she was as tender as water.

He had conquered her once.

This time would be no exception!

"Serena..."

Adrian lowered his head to kiss Serena.

As if he could already see Serena melting in his arms.

Adrian was even thinking about where he could take her.

The private room was occupied.

The hotel, couldn’t wait any longer!

Or... in the car?

Bam!

He was pushed away forcefully by Serena.

His back hit the opposite wall.

All his indulgent fantasies were completely shattered.

Adrian snapped back to reality only to see the look of disgust on Serena’s face.

She stared at him with eyes full of repulsion as if looking at something dirty.

"Acting like an animal anytime, anywhere, Adrian, how are you any different from animals?... It’s truly disgusting!"

Serena turned and walked away.

She spotted Una Hutton, who was sitting on a high bar stool, craning her neck like a giraffe.

With a warm smile, though clearly at her limit.

Serena hurriedly walked over, "Una, let’s go..."

Una visibly relaxed.

"Hey, handsome, check please!"

Pulling out her phone to settle the bill, Una glanced at the man across, "Mr. Alden, this one’s on me today. My friend is here, I’m off now!"

"It’s still early..."

Mr. Alden looked at his watch, hurriedly trying to stop them.

Turning back to see Serena, his eyes lit up, "Are you a friend of Mr. Hutton? Perfect timing, let me treat you... Miss, how do I address you? What would you like to drink?"

Offering his bar stool to Serena, Mr. Alden reached out to grab Serena’s arm.

Before he could touch her, his collar was sharply grabbed.

Bam!

A punch landed directly on the right cheek, and Mr. Alden, totally unprepared, fell heavily backward.

Knocking over the high stool.

Overturning bottles and glasses at the bar.

Amidst the surrounding screams, the bar was instantly in chaos.

Una wore a baffled look, "What the hell is that jerk’s problem?"

Serena pulled Una out without looking back, "Who cares!"

Just a door between them.

Having not had enough with one punch, Adrian grabbed Mr. Alden by the collar and pulled him up for another punch.

Serena shoved Una into the back seat of a cab, then climbed in herself.

The cab merged into the traffic.

In no time, they were out of the bar street.

Brushing past a police car coming from the opposite direction.

"Woo woo..."

The police car rushed to a stop, and the people in the bar ran to watch the commotion.

At the bar, Wyatt Hawthorne frowned, "What’s going on?"

"There was a fight at the bar next door!"

The bartender scrolled through his phone, smiling, "Two guys fighting over a girl, tsk tsk, how ridiculous... but, the girl is nice!"

In the dim picture, a magenta light fell on the woman with long hair draped over her shoulders.

Just one look, and Wyatt froze.

He lowered his head, taking the phone from the bartender’s hand.

The group chat for the bar street’s property and fire safety.

In no time, there were hundreds of messages.

Some sending pictures.

Some posting short videos.

One photo was beautifully romantic, like a poster for an idol drama.

The leading man and lady were tightly pressed against each other, the man lowering his head to kiss the woman’s snow-white swan-like neck.

In the few-second long videos, the content varied little.

A bespectacled guy reached to pull Serena to sit.

Serena dodged.

Then, Adrian’s fist swung over.

Bam!

Throwing the phone back on the table, Wyatt turned and left.

In the dim lighting, his face was dark and exuded a cold aura.

A voice with wicked amusement said: They’re a married couple, even in public you can’t interfere when they make out, legally authorized!

Another voice roaringly angry: Wyatt, who the hell do you think you are? Don’t grovel like a fool!

The heat in his chest was burning hotter and hotter, like a fire raging.

Bam!

The car door slammed shut, and quiet surrounded him.

Wyatt himself didn’t even know what he was angry about.

Beep.

Beep beep.

He didn’t even know how the call went through.

Wyatt wanted to hang up but it was too late.

A clear voice rang on the other side, "Hello?"

"Senior..."

Wyatt’s voice tightened, his mind briefly in chaos, "You... where are you?"

"I’m at home."

Over the phone, everything was quiet.

A silence so deep you could hear a pin drop.

So quiet it allowed him to hear her calm breathing clearly.

So starkly different from the noisy chaos outside the car window in the bar courtyard.

"Is 2S missing again?"

Serena said softly on the other end, "Check the media room upstairs, it might be curled up in the gap next to the massage chair."

"Okay."

Wyatt nodded, the flames in his heart dousing little by little.

Then, with a soft crackle, it extinguished.

"Did you find it?"

"Yeah. Found it."

In the quiet of the car compartment, Wyatt agreed.

"That’s good."

Serena sighed in relief, "Wyatt, when you’re not home during the day, close the media room door. It’s too dark and quiet in there, the perfect spot for hiding and sleeping. If you close it, there’ll be one less hiding spot, making it easier to find."

"Okay."

"If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up first?"

"Okay."

The disconnect tone beeped, and Wyatt looked at the departing police car.

He dialed another number, "How many Lockwood Group shares have you bought? ...Not enough, bring in another 10 million shares."

Hanging up, Serena saw Una looking teasingly at her, "If one knows, it’d be a cat you two are raising. If not, they’d think you two secretly had a kid."

"What do you mean, the two of us?"

Feeling her ears heat up, Serena glared at her, "It’s my cat, just staying at his place for a few days. I plan to bring it back tomorrow."

"Are you sure?"

Una smirked and extended her hand, "I bet fifty cents, you won’t!"

"Then you’re bound to lose!"

Serena confidently declared.

As soon as she spoke, her phone rang.

The officer’s voice was stern, "Hello, are you Adrian Lockwood’s partner? I’m calling from East District Police Station, please come over to pay the fine and bail him out immediately!"
