Chapter 94: Hiding a Secret Lover at Home?
CHAPTER 94: CHAPTER 94: HIDING A SECRET LOVER AT HOME?
[Sis, I’m so hungry!]
Serena Sinclair was watching Miles draw when she received Wyatt Hawthorne’s WeChat message.
Directly opposite, Adrian Lockwood, with an air of tranquil years, cut the steak and placed it in front of Serena and Miles, his attitude gentle, "Eat up!"
To an outsider, it might seem like a family of three having a pleasant time out.
[There’s fruit in the fridge and nuts in the cabinet, have a bite first. I’ll pack your favorite omurice and bring it back to you later.]
As soon as she sent the WeChat message, Serena felt something was off.
Why did it inexplicably feel like she was coaxing a child?
It was too late to take it back.
Wyatt replied with a well-behaved tone, [Okay, I’ll wait for you, hurry up!]
After Miles finished drawing, Serena got up and took him to wash his hands.
Returning, they quietly continued their meal.
Before leaving, Serena packed an extra omurice.
Adrian wanted to split the bill, but Serena refused and paid herself.
As they walked out of the restaurant, Adrian frowned, "Who did you bring food for?"
He clearly remembered that Serena never ate midnight snacks.
"Is it any of your business?"
Giving him a cold glance, Serena turned back to ruffle Miles’s hair, "Hurry home, brush your teeth obediently tonight, and get a good sleep."
Miles nodded.
The car merged into traffic, and Serena walked towards the apartment carrying the packed omurice.
Serena thought she had made things clear with Adrian.
After the divorce, she would fulfill her obligations to Miles. Whenever the time was right, she would be there for him, but they couldn’t force her.
Adrian agreed with a good attitude.
But the next day after work, he was up to his old tricks again.
If not for other colleagues around, Serena would have confronted him on the spot.
Ultimately, she held herself back, care for her reputation.
"Adrian Lockwood, enough is enough!"
In front of colleagues and Miles, Serena didn’t want to argue with Adrian.
Once again, they went to the same restaurant.
But this time, Serena clearly wasn’t as amiable as the night before.
When Adrian handed over the menu, Serena didn’t take it and looked at the waiter, "Just a glass of water, please."
His hand paused midair, Adrian’s expression was restrained.
And true to her word, Serena made sure she was not the one feeling awkward, she drank only water throughout, only helping Miles wipe the pasta sauce from his mouth.
As they walked out of the restaurant, Serena glared coldly at Adrian, "If tomorrow is the same, I guarantee, from then on..."
"There won’t be a next time!"
Adrian’s face was also stern.
It had always been Serena coaxing him.
Yet, this time, after over a week of him trying to appease her, she not only remained ungrateful but also acted as if he owed her millions.
Adrian, exasperated, looked down at Miles, "See? It’s not Dad who doesn’t want to bring you, Mom doesn’t want to see us."
Serena’s eyes widened.
Miles pouted, on the verge of tears!
Serena squatted down, met his eyes, and comforted him, "If you want to see Mom, tell the nanny, and we can play frisbee in the park or go bumper car riding, okay?"
Miles was taken aback.
Serena’s words were straightforward, "Mom doesn’t want to see your dad, do you understand?"
Adrian’s face darkened like the bottom of a pot.
Miles understood, reached out to hold Serena’s hand, "Mom, I got it!"
Serena turned to leave.
Her hand was clutched by Miles.
Miles turned back to Adrian, "Dad, it’s getting dark, let’s walk Mom downstairs, okay?"
"No..."
"Let’s go."
Facing Miles’s eager expression.
Serena couldn’t bear to let go of his hand and got into the car with him.
The Benz drove into the apartment complex and stopped downstairs.
Serena patted Miles’s hand and got out of the car.
Pushed open the door and entered, she saw Wyatt Hawthorne, eyes full of grievance, reclining on the living room sofa.
A cucumber, he took a bite, and 2S took a bite.
Man and cat ate filled with resentment.
Seeing Serena enter, Wyatt took an extra crunchy bite.
"For you, I didn’t eat tonight and came back specifically to eat with you."
Serena rolled up her sleeves and headed into the kitchen.
Wyatt sneered coldly, showing no appreciation, "Was it really for me? More like you couldn’t stomach it with Adrian Lockwood’s face there!"
Uh...
She didn’t expect to be seen through so quickly; there was a flash of awkwardness in Serena’s eyes.
Ding dong!
The doorbell rang, and Serena paused.
Thinking it might be Adrian and Miles standing outside the door, Serena’s mind went blank for a moment.
A voice said, now that she’s divorced, having a male guest in her house wasn’t a big deal.
But still, an inexplicable tension filled her heart.
In contrast, Wyatt seemed inexplicably excited???
Not having time to ponder his excitement, Serena quickly grabbed Wyatt and shoved him into the bedroom.
Only then did she step forward to open the door.
"Mom..."
Miles stood at the door, Adrian behind him.
Miles handed over a drawing, "This is something I drew in kindergarten, it’s for you!"
Unfolded, it was a cartoon portrait.
Black hair in long waves.
Big smiling eyes, along with exaggerated long eyelashes.
The woman in the drawing, smiling tenderly, wearing a pretty red polka dot dress.
Sloppily written were the words "My Mom."
Along with the words, ’Middle Class 1, Miles Lockwood.’
Beneath the portrait was a first-place certificate.
Serena patted Miles’s head, "Thank you! Mom really loves it!"
"Mom, can I go in and see the kitty?"
Just seeing 2S leisurely licking his fur on the sofa, Miles made a new request.
Serena refused decisively, "Next time, okay?"
If the drawing was an excuse, once inside, it would become uncontrollable.
Whether the young master could remain quiet in the bedroom was one thing.
Once Adrian went in, by tomorrow, her living room might need a makeover.
The carpet Adrian walked on, the sofa he sat on, might have to be changed.
Better to avoid complications!
"It’s already late; you should go home and sleep. Next time, is that okay?"
Serena asked Miles.
Miles nodded decisively, "Okay!"
By this time, he had understood things clearly.
Going against Dad had no serious consequences, at most seeing his stern face for a while.
But defying Mom, there were no good outcomes.
It might even mean not seeing Mom.
This consequence was far more serious than seeing Dad’s stern face.
"Dad, let’s go..."
Miles reached out to hold Adrian’s hand.
Adrian’s gaze moved from behind Serena back to her face, a deliberately casual tease tinged with unspeakable probing, "What, hiding a lover at home?"
"That’s right!"
Serena admitted readily, "Several, actually. Want to come in and meet them?"
Adrian’s face darkened further, shot a glare at Serena, and turned to leave.
The elevator doors closed.
Serena let out a long breath.
Turning around, she fell into Wyatt’s embrace.
Wyatt’s feelings were complex.
Half happy: She admitted it, admitting he’s her "lover"!!!
Half frustrated: When the doorbell rang, her first instinct was to hide him? Was he that shameful?
His heart seemed to leap between oil and ice buckets.
Wyatt looked down at Serena, rubbing her forehead, "Sis, am I... that unsuitable to be seen?"
