Chapter 327: Ancient Humans and the Camelot Empire
Helena looked up at Silver Mask’s round, shiny head.
“So, are you interested in the Undead Nation?”
“Yeah, I’m going to destroy the Bone Dragon King.”
Hearing this, Helena froze for a moment. Then she chuckled softly and leaned back into Li Meng’s embrace.
“Ancient dragon kings can’t be killed. Even if they die, they’ll just resurrect.”
Helena didn’t take Silver Mask’s words seriously.
Silver Mask was strong, but defeating the Bone Dragon King was impossible. After all, the Bone Dragon King ranked among the top thirteen in the Unparalleled Ranking, a monstrous existence.
“I heard there are vampires in the Undead Nation. Is that true?”
“It’s true. The Undead Nation’s predecessor was the Camelot Empire, which was the territory of the ancient humans. The Bone Dragon King’s emergence destroyed the ancient human empire. That entire land became the Bone Dragon King’s domain of death, where all life was turned into the undead. Vampires were born during that time and became nobles of the Undead Nation, ruling over the undead.”
“Ancient humans?”
Li Meng had never heard of this term before.
“Ancient humans were the ancestors of modern humans. Humanity originated on the Central Continent, and ancient humans were its rulers. The Dragonmen were merely vassals of the ancient human empire. When the Bone Dragon King destroyed their empire, the surviving ancient humans became slaves to the Dragonmen. Thousands of years later, with Heaven’s help, humanity escaped to the Southern Continent and established the Holy Kingdom.”
So, humans had once been glorious. As expected, humans are always protagonists, no matter the world. Even if they fall, they’ll rise again someday.
“Though the Camelot Empire was destroyed, the ancient humans who became undead ended up helping humanity. Without the Undead Nation holding back the Dragonmen kingdoms in the Central Continent, they would’ve sent armies to flatten the Southern Continent long ago.”
Helena’s words made Li Meng frown slightly.
If the Bone Dragon King were destroyed, would the Undead Nation disappear too?
If the Undead Nation disappeared, it could trigger a situation unfavorable to humanity. Would the Dragonmen refocus their attention on the humans of the Southern Continent?
The answer was undoubtedly yes.
After all, the Dragonmen had always yearned to return to the era when humans were their livestock.
Although Li Meng didn’t care about humanity’s fate, if the Dragonmen occupied the Southern Continent, they wouldn’t spare his Goblin Empire.
“Helena, how much do you know about Heaven?”
The Dragonmen were an ancient race, having been involved in all the catastrophes throughout Augus Continent’s history.
“I’ve heard they’re dimensional beings, coming from the same place as demons, though they’re mortal enemies of demons. Angels are proud and aloof, aiding many races on the Augus Continent but never interacting with them. Everyone believes angels are a benevolent race, but is that truly the case? I think angels are more like magical creatures, driven by an instinctive hatred of demons. Nothing more.”
“Have you seen an angel, Helena?”
From her words, it wasn’t hard to tell.
“Yes, when I was very young. The Serpent Scales Tribe invaded the Water Dragon Kingdom and summoned the Savage God ‘Akryfis’ through sacrifices. To counter him, the Water Dragon Kingdom sacrificed the human Light Emperor Archmage to summon the Radiant Angel. But when the angel descended, it flew away immediately. In the end, the kingdom had to rally divine-tier adventurers and heroes to defeat Akryfis. Though they succeeded, most of the heroes and divine-tier warriors died, leaving the kingdom severely weakened.”
Helena’s story amused Li Meng. He could imagine the scene—summoning an angel only for it to fly off.
The Water Dragon Kingdom must’ve been utterly speechless back then.
Then again, angels protect humans, not aquatic Dragonfolk. Seeing no humans nearby, the angel flying off wasn’t entirely unreasonable.
“Silver Mask, you seem clueless about Heaven?”
If he knew, he wouldn’t have asked her these questions.
“Yeah, clueless. I’ve heard stories, but I can’t feel their reality.”
Hearing this, Helena smiled softly.
“Well, none of us truly understand it. Heaven is a very mysterious power.”
Though Helena had seen an angel once, she couldn’t claim to understand them. Back then, she had only glimpsed it from afar.
“Silver Mask, may I ask a question?”
Helena, nestled in Li Meng’s arms, looked up at Silver Mask’s shiny, round head.
“No. It’s my secret.”
Li Meng understood Helena’s intent. She wanted to know his race, to see what kind of head was beneath his silver mask.
He rejected her without hesitation.
“I… I wouldn’t mind.”
Helena’s cheeks reddened with curiosity. She was dying to know what race Silver Mask belonged to.
“If you see my true form, I’ll have to kill you. It’s a curse!”
Hearing this, Helena’s body trembled. Silver Mask wasn’t joking. That wasn’t a lie or a jest. If she saw his face, she’d die.
“I… I’m not curious anymore!”
“That’s better.”
The two continued chatting idly afterward. As they leaned into each other, they truly looked like a couple.
Time passed, and night quickly fell.
As the night deepened, they stayed together until morning.
The next day, the two left the mansion early.
On the bustling streets, they walked side by side.
“Do you know who he is?”
“Yes, that’s Silver Mask.”
“Why is Miss Helena with him?”
Wherever they passed, adventurers turned curious gazes on them.
The conflict from a few days ago was still fresh in their minds.
Wasn’t Silver Mask an enemy of the Water Dragon Knights? Why were they walking together today?
“Silver Mask? The leader of the Brotherhood?”
“Must be him. Black robes and a silver head—quite the odd look.”
“I heard the Brotherhood has magical wine that can regenerate limbs. Is that true?”
“It’s true. A former companion of mine joined them, and his severed hand grew back.”
“Then the Brotherhood shouldn’t be messed with. Who knows when you’ll need their help.”
“No kidding. Who’d be stupid enough to provoke them?”
Listening to the adventurers’ chatter, Helena smiled faintly.
She turned her curious gaze to Silver Mask beside her.
“Silver Mask, is it true?”
Helena had heard of the Brotherhood’s miraculous limb-regenerating wine but didn’t know if it was a rumor or the truth.
