Don't Mess with That Dragon
Chapter 46 - 44 Turning the Soil
CHAPTER 46: CHAPTER 44 TURNING THE SOIL
Military training can enhance the combat power of the Beastmen subordinates, and group activities of hunting beasts can bring food to the Dragon Nest Tribe, both of which are much more meaningful in Vini’s view than this "boring idle game."
Originally watching the heaps of grass as tall as a Beastman about to burn out, Vini felt it was time to move on to important tasks like hunting or training, but unfortunately, his wish never materialized.
"Vini, your next task is to lead your subordinates with wooden shovels to turn over all this land!"
The Blue Young Dragon enthusiastically gave orders, looking at this vast expanse of land with a surge of ambition.
This will be the first step of a long journey!
As long as this beginning is done well, it will be much better afterward.
Austin just moved his lips, but it made the Beastman Race run tirelessly.
With a wry smile, Vini led a large group of Beastmen, found a place, and commanded them to start turning soil.
Twelve hectares of land, nearly the size of two sports fields, even though over fifty Beastmen gathered for the task, it would take at least a whole day to turn all twelve hectares completely.
With a step on the shovel and a lift of the wooden handle, the thick soil was turned over.
Turning soil is labor-intensive work, and even though the physical strength of Beastmen surpasses ordinary humans, before long even they were panting and sweating all over.
Watching the crowd of Beastmen sweating profusely, working zealously for over half an hour, they had only turned a corner of the area.
"It seems we should see if we can domesticate some wild cattle and horses in the future, otherwise, this speed is too slow."
Casually watching the multitude battling wits and strength with the soil, Austin pondered silently in his heart.
Only twelve hectares of land were reclaimed, along with the output of Pueraria, far from enough for the Beastmen’s rations. After completing the cultivation of this land, further reclamation outward is inevitable.
Although after the next reclamation expansion, the Beastmen will be faster with experience, it is ultimately no match for animal power. If they could domesticate cattle and horses, then whether it’s for reclamation or future continuous development, it will have enormous utility.
"Since choosing Pueraria as the first crop, there is no need to find land near rivers. After all, Pueraria can survive in some barren hills with insufficient water sources."
If this is the case, it can greatly reduce the difficulty of reclamation.
As Austin was planning for the future, noticing the crowd of Beastmen sweating profusely, appearing somewhat overwhelmed, the "Village Chief" Vini ordered the Beastmen to stop and take a rest, sit down, and drink some water.
He then pondered several times in his heart before finally approaching Austin with hesitation.
"Your Highness Austin, to turn over all the soil here, it cannot be done without a full day. Today’s training and hunting are still unfinished, so what do you think..."
Vini spoke, looking at the Blue Young Dragon with a face full of hope, clearly wishing to stop the meaningless soil turning to do more meaningful training and hunting.
"Your military training has been done very well. Before upgrading the weapons, just run five kilometers each morning and evening, and review the stance rotation, it’s enough."
After several months of training, the Beastmen had shed their former laziness, and after several bloody battles, once gathered into an army, they immediately exuded a fierce aura, forming a forest of spears, appearing orderly trained, extremely sharp.
However, Austin also knew that Beastmen holding long spears made of wooden sticks have reached their limit already. Further training would only add a small increment of fighting power, better spent on agriculture instead.
Anyway, it’s only when the Blue Young Dragon refines copper and iron, and when each Beastman is clad in Bronze Armor, wielding bronze and iron weapons, that they can significantly enhance the combat power of the subordinate army.
"Regarding hunting, the smoked meat made from your hunts these days is enough for the Dragon Nest Tribe’s needs for more than a month, and the beasts within the Dragon Nest Territory have been reduced to a very small degree, so there’s no need to expend more effort. Focus entirely on accomplishing what I’ve entrusted to you. If successful, the Tribe will no longer fear hunger in the future."
Excessive hunting is no better, for even hunting cannot exhaust the pond and fish in one stroke, so now the beasts within the Dragon Nest Territory pose no threat to the Beastmen. When they grow up, hunt again, and there will be plenty of food harvested.
Vini was a bit puzzled, how did turning soil relate to not being hungry again?
But though puzzled, Vini refrained from asking.
Just obey the orders; if His Highness Austin says it can be done, then it certainly can be.
This was the belief and blind faith formed through countless miracles experienced after becoming a subordinate clan of the Blue Young Dragon.
Vini raised his spirits and returned to the team, conveying Austin’s words to the Beastmen present, and those resting Beastmen immediately perked up greatly.
Under the leadership of the Blue Young Dragon, they’ve had full meals, living a life previously unimaginable, through which all Beastmen developed deep admiration for Austin. Since these words were spoken by His Highness Austin, they must be correct.
Watching the previously exhausted Beastmen suddenly revived and enthused, even Austin felt a little speechless.
Saying Beastmen have simple minds and are rough around the edges is not entirely without reason.
But it is precisely this advantage that allows Austin to lead these Beastmen smoothly without expending excessive mental effort.
As the Blue Young Dragon oversaw the Beastmen’s soil-turning work, a Kobold suddenly ran over hurriedly from not far away, shouting as if seeing a savior:
"Your Highness, Your Highness Austin, finally found you!"
"What’s wrong?"
Looking at the Kobold that rushed before him, Austin asked in a deep voice.
"Something has happened, something has happened, the three teams that went out hunting have returned, many Beastmen were injured!"
At this point, the surrounding Beastmen all stopped their work, directing their sight over to the panting Kobold, who revealed something that greatly concerned Austin from his mouth.
Yesterday, the three teams went south of the Dragon Nest Territory to hunt beasts and did not return overnight, finally coming back today.
But the returning Beastmen were nearly all injured, especially the leading captain, Lizardman Rodney, who was barely hanging on.
According to those Beastman team members, they entered a cave and encountered spiders, very large, very terrifying, very many spiders!
And from the Beastmen’s description, the large spiders in that Spider Cave seemed to be Magic Beasts with Talent Magic!
