CHAPTER 56: CHAPTER 56

After Triton had attended Maria’s burial which was compulsory for him to be present, he decided to go on a journey. The forger whom he worked for lived in a place far away from werewolf territories. They had only been exchanging letters and sending messengers to deliver their messages, and since Trevor hadn’t brought more women, the forger had been sending messages incessantly to Triton.

Triton was the one who had direct contact with the forger, he relayed messages from the forger to his brother Trevor. A messenger came recently, bearing a letter that the forger sent.

Triton’s heart thumped and his blood pressure skyrocketed as he read through the message. It contained multiple threats and warnings if he and his brother wouldn’t do what the forger wanted.

Triton knew what he signed up for when he started working for the forger. He knew all the lies he had told to Alpha Reynolds of Veilwood each time the alpha asked for help concerning the missing females in his pack. He knew how he even helped clean traces of the missing women in Veilwood.

The forger had made a simple request, just ten more women and the deal is closed. Triton was so close to getting what he wanted, and his brother, Trevor was also close to not being in the hands of death during the next blood moon.

He wondered why Trevor had decided to become stupid and back out from their plan.

"Or could it be that he had gotten a solution to his misfortune elsewhere?" Triton asked himself.

"We’re going to meet the forger." Triton informed his trusted man and beta, Sam.

Sam contemplated for a while before responding. "Is this a good idea? We all know that the forger can be dangerous, and..."

"I want to know if I can get my own part out of the deal," Triton said, cutting Sam off.

Sam kept quiet and didn’t argue further even though he had a bad feeling about the forger.

They prepared themselves and packed all the necessary things needed— two horses, water and bread and their fighting tools in case any beast appeared on the way.

The journey towards the forger’s abode was roughly three days. They arrived on the afternoon of the third day.

Both of them were already quite exhausted. After keeping their horses under a shed, they headed to the tiny cottage which stood ahead of them.

The cottage was there just to conceal the main place where the captured women were kept.

A guard met them at the door with a raised brow. Triton quickly introduced himself, while showing the man the letters that the forger had been sending.

After searching them for any harmful tools, the guards allowed them entry inside.

The inside of the cottage looked normal, except for a stairs that lead down. Triton and Sam descended the stairs which led to hidden underground rooms.

The place smelt a bit dusty and metallic. He could also perceive that familiar smell of silver. They had to use silver to weaken the abilities of the werewolves that they captured.

"Triton!" The familiar voice of the forger called out. Before he could answer, a dagger flew in his direction. He managed to duck, missing it by an inch.

The forger emerged from the darkness. He wore a dark cloak and sturdy boots with gloves. A scar ran down his face.

"You stupid prince of Lycanthia!" The forger spat. "I’m trying to help you, and all you do is abandon me, sly on me and join forces with your cursed brother to ignore me."

"It isn’t what you think." Triton pleaded, while stretching his hands in apology. "I’m still by your side. It’s just my brother who is refusing to do the work."

The forger took a hand to his chin and rubbed it while in thought. "Has he found a solution to his problem elsewhere?"

"That’s the same thing I thought." Triton said. "He values his life more than anything, and if he refuses to work for us, it means he has found help elsewhere."

The forger stomped his foot angrily and clenched his fists. "That bastard! I wonder who helped him." He faced Triton. "How do we recruit more women now?"

Sam who had been silent the entire while chipped into their conversation. "We should visit Trevor again and try to reason with him."

"That’s not the solution. The last time I went there, he was adamant and it even resulted in a fight." Triton countered his statement. His beta, Sam had always been a gentle person, never wanting to return fist for fist and always wanting to settle things amicably, but this time, peaceful discussions weren’t needed.

"Then do it." The forger ordered. "Try and reason peacefully with him, but if he refuses, I’d be forced to take matters into my own hands."

Triton bowed his head. "Yes, my Lord."

"Now leave, and never come here uninvited. I don’t want anybody finding out about this place."

Both of them bowed their heads and left the forger’s place. Their next destination was to meet Trevor, and they had to head there right away.

"Do you really think we’re doing the right thing by working for the forger?" Sam, who was always empathic, asked. "I feel like we are really betraying Alpha Reynolds and his people. It just doesn’t sit right by me."

Triton exhales deeply. He had always felt like Sam when he started with what he was doing, but he comforted himself that he was doing what he had to do to survive.

"Relax. He’s not killing the women, he’s only harnessing their special gifts, and in return, we get what we need."

Sam nodded his head. Although he still felt guilty, he didn’t say anything.

"I’m sure that when the forger is done doing whatever he wants to do with the women, he’d release them." Triton added.

"But what exactly is he doing with them?"

Triton shrugged his shoulders. "None of us can tell."

They grabbed the reins of their horses and headed towards the rogue fortress to meet Trevor for one last talk.
