Douluo Dalu 4: Ultimate Fighting
Chapter 1094: Second Dragon Hunt
TL: GoldenLung
Tang Yuge and Lan Mengqin had not only significantly increased the toughness of their arms through tempering—the overall strength of their bodies had also risen considerably. This proved that refining the flesh with bloodline power did indeed offer tremendous benefits to a soul master’s cultivation. Yet the prerequisites were far too demanding, making it a path that not everyone could walk.
Whether it was the pain tolerance required during cultivation, the ability to halt the burning of one’s bloodline midway, or the capability to replenish bloodline power afterward—none of these were things an ordinary soul master could accomplish.
With their cultivation session concluded, the next operation—hunting a dragon-type creature—was now officially on the agenda.
The disappearance of a single Lower Dragon did not seem to attract any attention. At least, on Fenglong City’s side, there was not the slightest ripple.
Over the past seven days, Liang Pu had arranged lodging for them in two cities, including Xiaoyun City where they had previously carried out their mission.
However, Lan Xuanyu chose not to set up a teleportation array in Xiaoyun City, as they had only recently completed their hunt there.
Their target this time lay in a different direction—another city still fairly close to Fenglong City, only slightly farther than Xiaoyun City—and this time, they already had lodging prepared.
When night fell and the teleportation array activated, Liu Feng rejoined them, and the seven slipped silently into the residence arranged for them in the new city.
Yunfeng City rested between mountains and rivers, backed by the vast Yunfeng Mountain Range—one of the great ranges of Celestial Dragon Planet.
According to the intelligence Lan Xuanyu had gathered, many dragon-type beings favored soaring through such mountainous terrain, practicing flight techniques and aerial combat.
Because more dragons congregated in Yunfeng City’s vicinity than in Fenglong City, searching for a target here would theoretically be easier—so long as they avoided being discovered by other dragons.
The seven left their temporary residence; with Lan Xuanyu’s mastery over spatial elements powering the point-to-point teleportation matrices, the expenditure on his part remained minimal.
Their destination this time was the Yunfeng Mountains. Acting within the mountains was far more convenient than luring a dragon out of a city.
During their last hunt, things could have become troublesome had the target refused to leave the urban area—and with surveillance systems present in almost every city, even though Lan Xuanyu had assumed the form of a Lower Dragon, the record of the slain dragon’s exit might have still raised suspicion. If anyone with enough interest reviewed the footage, inconsistencies would surface.
That was why, after careful consideration, he chose the Yunfeng Mountains this time. A dragon practicing deep in the mountains could remain there for any length of time; one going missing would attract little notice.
Even so, they were far more cautious than before. Using the electronic map, they soon crossed into the mountain range.
Lan Xuanyu called upon his soul power, invoking the Golden Dragon King’s true form. His body elongated into that of a massive dragon, allowing his companions to ride upon his back. With the help of the Treasure Seeking Beast’s illusion, the mighty dragon transformed into the image of a low-ranked dragon, while the six riders behind him vanished within the mirage.
Flapping his wings, the “dragon” glided into the depths of the mountains, roaming beneath the shroud of night. Its scales were now an iron-gray color, and the illusion made its form identical to that of the Lower Dragon they had previously hunted—one look and it appeared to be the lowest of the low within dragon hierarchy. In the darkness, such a creature drew no attention. Lan Xuanyu released his spiritual power outward, sweeping the area for a suitable target.
Their plan remained the same: hunt another Lower Dragon so Qian Lei, Liu Feng, and Yuanen Huihui could attempt the first round of bloodline-tempering cultivation.
The Yunfeng Mountain Range was unimaginably vast—its edges invisible even from above. In the black sky, far off in the distance, faint glimmers occasionally flickered—perhaps the radiance emitted from some dragon’s body, though Lan Xuanyu stayed well clear of such places. No one knew whether those distant lights belonged to dragons of the god-rank.
They flew for a full half-hour without finding a trace of a target. Perhaps the mountains were too expansive, or perhaps the dragons had already finished their training and withdrawn to rest.
At length, Lan Xuanyu descended into the forest, sweeping the dense woods with spiritual power while the others dismounted to search on foot. After a few dozen minutes, a mountainous cliff loomed ahead. A large cavity could be seen within the rock face—clearly a cave, and by the density of residual heat inside, very likely occupied by a dragon. Lan Xuanyu concealed his aura and approached cautiously.
The cave extended deep within; after advancing more than a hundred meters and turning past a bend, the space abruptly opened into a natural chamber. A Lower Dragon, more than fifteen meters long, lifted its gaze toward them.
“Who are you? This is my territory—leave at once!” it growled, voice low and rumbling. Its entire body shimmered with dark-red tones, faint waves of heat rolling off its scales. The rising temperature of the cavern made its attribute clear—fire. Its head was disproportionately large, its body leaner, wings spread wide as it eyed Lan Xuanyu—still disguised as a Lower Dragon—with hostility.
“And who’s to say this place is yours? I could just as easily claim it as mine,” Lan Xuanyu replied with deliberate insolence, sending a message to his companions at the same time.
The fire-type dragon roared in fury, “Nonsense! According to the rules—” But it never finished. A sudden chill burst forth behind Lan Xuanyu, instantly plunging the cavern’s heat to an icy low. The Lower Dragon froze mid-sentence—literally—its entire body encased in ice.
The illusion dissolved, revealing a pair of deep blue eyes suspended in the air: Bai Xiuxiu’s Deep Blue Gaze. At the eighth-ring level, her Deep Blue Gaze could erupt in an instant; even a fire-attribute opponent could be forcefully bound by it.
The rest of the team surged forward without hesitation. Yuanen Huihui’s Purple Star Spirit Bow flashed; an arrow shot forth, dissolving into pure light that merged into Tang Yuge’s body. Tang Yuge accelerated instantly, propelled by the arrow’s momentum, appearing above the frozen dragon’s head in the blink of an eye.
Tang Yuge accelerated instantly, propelled by the arrow’s momentum, appearing above the frozen dragon’s head in the blink of an eye.
Her right fist blossomed with five-colored radiance—the Great Five Elements Divine Light surging forth as she hammered a heavy blow straight toward the Lower Dragon’s massive skull.
But at that moment, the layer of ice covering the dragon’s head exploded outward. A torrent of scorching flames spewed from its maw, the cavern’s temperature surging upward once more.
Unfortunately for it, Tang Yuge possessed mastery over the Five Elements Escape Technique. Red light flowed across her body, drawing the flames aside as if guiding a river around a stone. Before the Great Five Elements Divine Light, the fire dimmed instantly, and her punch still connected, driving the dragon’s head violently askew.
A colossal golden figure descended from above, its massive arms clasped together as it brought down a brutal, hammerlike blow.
Boom—! The Lower Dragon’s enormous head was smashed into the ground. Immediately after, the muscular frame of the Golden Behemoth dropped from the air, stomping down savagely upon its skull.
The Golden Behemoth had once been known on Douluo Planet as a “dragon-eater,” and not without reason. Against ordinary dragonkind, it possessed a natural suppressive force. During their previous hunt of a Lower Dragon, that dragon had been rendered completely unable to struggle once it fell under Qian Lei’s restraint.
