Duel in a Sword & Magic World: Girls Spirit Duelist
Chapter 104: DSMW [104]
"I summon in Defense Position—Elemental HERO Bubbleman!"
[Elemental HERO Bubbleman] Level 4│WATER│Warrior│1200 DEF
Behind a Batman-esque mask, he wore a confident smile. Surrounded by pale blue bubbles, Bubbleman—bearing the effect of Pot of Greed—made his debut.
"When I control no other cards, upon Bubbleman's Summon or Special Summon, I can draw 2 cards from my Deck."
Miles' intention was obvious: accelerate card flow through Bubbleman. The more cards drawn, the better the chance of getting that all-important [Polymerization] Spell Card.
Once this Duel was over, Miles planned to give Irene some deck-building advice.
For example, even without 200 Magic Points to print a second [Polymerization], she could synthesize a C-rank Spell Card, [Fusion Sage], whose effect is to "Add 1 'Polymerization' from your Deck to your hand," effectively increasing the chance of drawing it.
"Draw! Draw!"
Thanks to Bubbleman's rapid-fire effect, Miles drew 2 cards. Unfortunately, [Polymerization] was not among them.
Still, he got an interesting HERO combo card.
"I set 3 cards. Turn end!"
Deion declared sternly, "Oh? Is this the extent of your resistance? Then you likely won't have a next turn."
"Which eye of yours saw me struggling?" Miles couldn't resist snapping back.
"Hey, hey, hey, Irene, mind your manners!"
Shira, the Magic Club President, quickly reminded her, her face awkward with concern her voice might carry to Kaiser.
"Deion is royalty, you know. Disrespecting royalty could get you in real trouble."
"Not my problem," Miles said casually. "No matter what status he holds, on the Duel stage, he's just someone I have to beat."
The thinking of a true Duelist. And as a modern-day individual, Miles had little regard for the aristocracy.
"Hahahaha. Well said!"
To everyone's surprise, Deion actually approved of that attitude.
"I agree with Irene Austin. No matter the title, once you step onto the Duel stage, it's win or lose! That's the first time anyone's said that to me during a Duel—what an interesting woman!"
'???' Miles was confused.
'Interesting woman?'
'What kind of cheesy CEO drama is this?'
Irene sighed, "First it was Duke's son Kevin Seth, and now royalty, Deion. Miles, you really are a sinful... man."
'...Only if they knew I'm a guy.'
"In that case, Irene Austin, don't disappoint me! My turn, draw!"
Kaiser violently ripped a card from his Deck.
"I activate the Spell Card [Pot of Greed] to draw 2 more cards!"
Last turn, Miles summoned Bubbleman with Pot of Greed's effect. This turn, Kaiser casually dropped the real [Pot of Greed].
Despite its A-rank rarity, he tossed it like it was a common card. Maybe Miles had been right—the royal family, who could casually lend out [Metamorphosis], had the resources to collect any card.
The ultimate pay-to-win Duelist, a royal deck with multiple Pot cards, was nothing unusual.
"Draw! Draw!"
Returning Miles' double draw with his own, Deion scanned his hand and asked Shira, "If Irene Austin loses this Duel, what will happen to the three cards that haven't awakened yet?"
"I think they can be awakened gradually through more Duels."
"Ah, I see."
Kaiser's smile turned feral.
"Then I have no reason to hold back. Here I go! Field Spell activate!"
Raising a Field Spell high above his head, a dimensional shift radiated from Kaiser's position, transforming the entire Duel Arena.
Miles felt as though he'd entered another dimension.
"This is the Field Spell [Power Bond Dimension]!—No, wait... [Fusion Gate]!"
[While this card is on the field, you can Fusion Summon a Fusion Monster without using 'Polymerization'. The Fusion Materials are banished instead of being sent to the Graveyard.]
More advanced than [Polymerization], [Fusion Gate] is an A-rank Field Spell that enables unlimited Fusion Summons.
Anyhow, the drawback was clear—Fusion Materials would be banished instead of going to the Graveyard.
"I use [Fusion Gate]'s effect to banish my on-field [Cyber Dragon] and the [Cyber Dragon] in my hand to Fusion Summon!"
Kaiser tossed two [Cyber Dragon] cards into the swirling [Fusion Gate] behind him.
The mechanical beasts fused, becoming a new entity.
"With the twin roars of Cyber Dragons, Fusion Summon—Cyber Twin Dragon!"
[Cyber Twin Dragon] Level 8│LIGHT│Machine│2800 ATK
[Cyber Dragon + Cyber Dragon]
A straightforward Fusion: two Cyber Dragons combining into a double-headed Cyber Twin Dragon.
Naturally, the strength and effect were equally brutal.
"Cyber Twin Dragon can attack twice in one Battle Phase. Take this! 'Double Photon Stream of Destruction'!"
Both dragon heads fired white-hot photon blasts at Miles' [Bubbleman] in Defense Position. The Attack-Defense gap left no room for resistance; Bubbleman was vaporized instantly.
"Now your field has no monsters to protect you. Cyber Twin Dragon! Double Strike!"
"Who says I'm defenseless? The will of a HERO calls forth his comrades!"
As Bubbleman fell, Miles quickly flipped a set Trap.
"Trap Card activate: [Hero Signal]!"
[Activate when a monster on your side of the field is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard. Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Elemental HERO" monster from your hand or Deck.]
A radiant "H" symbol shone above the field, summoning another HERO from Irene's Deck.
"I Special Summon in Defense Position—[Elemental HERO Clayman]!"
[Elemental HERO Clayman] Level 4│EARTH│Warrior│2000 DEF
Large and sturdy, Clayman took a defensive stance on Irene's field.
"A HERO with 2000 Defense; no matter, still no match for Cyber Twin Dragon! Continue attacking!"
The second Photon Stream surged forward.
"No match? Then let him put up a bit of a struggle! Go, Clayman!"
Miles flipped another set card.
"Trap Card activate: [Clay Charge]!"
[Activate when an opponent's monster targets your face-up "Elemental HERO Clayman" for an attack. Destroy the attacking monster and your "Elemental HERO Clayman". Then inflict 800 damage to your opponent.]
Abandoning defense, Clayman charged like a true HERO into the Photon blaze. The blast couldn't stop his momentum.
"Destroy both your Cyber Twin Dragon and my Clayman, then inflict 800 damage to you!"
A mutual KO, but a huge win for Miles. A basic Level 4 monster taking out a Fusion boss monster, and with 800 damage on top.
[Deion, LP: 4000 → 3200]
"That HERO counter worked, Miles!"
With both sides cleared of monsters, Miles still had one set card left.
"To use Clayman to trade for my Cyber Twin Dragon... well played, Irene Austin. However, that kind of struggle won't overturn my victory!"
Still mid-Battle Phase, Kaiser didn't end his turn. Instead, he threw out a Quick-Play Spell from his hand.
"Now it's my turn! [Cyberload Fusion]!"
The card art depicted Cyber Dragons merging in a spiral. Kaiser explained:
"[Cyberload Fusion] is a Cyber Dragon-exclusive Spell. It lets me return banished Cyber Dragons to my Deck and use them as Fusion Materials!"
"A Fusion Spell that uses monsters from the Banished Zone? No wonder he used [Fusion Gate]!"
[Fusion Gate] banished his materials earlier—now it played to his advantage.
"I fuse the two banished Cyber Dragons again! Roar once more—Cyber Twin Dragon!"
"RRAAAAA!!"
[Cyber Twin Dragon, ATK: 2800]
The second Cyber Twin Dragon from Kaiser's Deck once again lit up the field with blazing light.
"Now your field is empty, and my freshly fused Cyber Twin Dragon can attack twice again! Photon Stream—Triple Strike!"
The third blast came screaming down. With no monsters, Miles had no choice but to take it head-on.
[Irene, LP: 3000 → 200]
The force of the real-world blast knocked Irene back to the edge of the arena, and her LP dropped to the brink of defeat.
"It's over! This Duel is mine! Cyber Twin Dragon, one last hit! Photon Stream—Quadra Strike!!"
"A 2800-Attack monster, launching four consecutive strikes in one turn?! This is what second-years are like?!"
Even among second-years, Deion was infamous. His presence alone struck fear into upperclassmen.
Countless Duelists had fallen to his Cyber Dragon's four-hit kill.
The moment he summoned Cyber Twin Dragon via [Fusion Gate], most spectators assumed the match was decided.
"We haven't lost yet, Irene!"
As the fourth strike descended, Miles flipped his final set card.
"Trap Card activate: [Miracle's Wake]!"
A faint radiance burst through the electronic blaze, shielding Miles from the killing blow.
[Target 1 monster destroyed by battle and sent to your Graveyard this turn; Special Summon that target.]
"I Special Summon my [Elemental HERO Bubbleman] from the Graveyard in Defense Position to block the attack!"
[Bubbleman, DEF: 1200]
Revived just in time, Bubbleman formed a bubble shield, neutralizing the final Photon Stream.
He only survived for a second before being destroyed again, but his effect left behind a miracle.
"Since I revived [Bubbleman] using my last card, and I control no other cards, his effect activates: I draw 2 cards!"
Miles needed the next key card to fuel a comeback.
"Still searching for [Polymerization], Miles?"
"Not anymore. What I need is... draw!"
Thanks to Bubbleman's double-draw effect, Miles drew 4 cards in total.
"What I needed... was the battlefield for HEROes to shine!"
Empowered by both desire and luck, Miles finally drew the Field Spell: [Skyscraper]!
…
TL: This is the original anime Bubbleman (like most such cards in this fic).
