CHAPTER 170: CHAPTER 174: NOT BEING WRONGED
"You’re still being stubborn?! You damn girl, now you’re even going after the old man!" Evelina yelled, as if she wanted to cement Mabel Quinn’s guilt.
And because of Evelina’s intrusion, the meeting room door was left open, allowing many students outside to rush in and watch the commotion.
"Are you Mabel Quinn’s mother?" the department head asked.
Evelina took a breath and replied, "Yes, I’m her mother. I’m aware of what my daughter did, and I’ve scolded her several times. I never thought she would be so incorrigible, continuing to do such shameless things. No matter what punishment the school gives my daughter today, I will accept it on her behalf."
Mabel Quinn widened her eyes at her mother, suddenly feeling a sense of pity and absurdity.
Her mother was now lying in front of everyone, intending to destroy her. She always knew her mother disliked her, but she never thought her mother would go this far.
"Are you saying your daughter Mabel Quinn is really doing something inappropriate?" another school leader asked for confirmation, since typically a mother would cover up her daughter’s scandal, not wish for everyone to know, and at least defend her daughter.
"Yes, yes, she is indeed doing something improper. I can testify to it!" Evelina said.
This statement not only surprised the school leaders but also stirred an uproar among the students, as no one had ever seen a mother personally testify to prove her daughter was doing such things.
Mabel Quinn’s heart gradually turned cold. Could she truly call such a woman her mother?
"I don’t admit it!" Mabel Quinn spoke, "Mom, I don’t know why you’re telling these lies. I’m your daughter, but you’re defaming me with things that aren’t true. What’s the reason behind it all?"
"I’m your mom, do you think I would wrongly accuse you?" Evelina replied with justified confidence.
Beside them, Lyra Grant couldn’t help but smile. Great, let it unfold like this; she wanted to see what Mabel Quinn could do to turn the situation around!
"Wrongly accuse, you are indeed wrongly accusing me. You claim you knew long ago; then when did you find out? How did you know? You said you scolded me; then when and where did that happen?" Mabel Quinn demanded.
Evelina was momentarily stumped. Having made up the story, she hadn’t thought it through. Being questioned now, she hurried to think back and said, "It was three months ago. I... I saw you at a restaurant, laughing and dining with an old man who was hugging you and constantly touching your hands and legs. You both were very affectionate."
"Oh, really?" Mabel Quinn stepped forward. "Normally, if a mother saw such a scene, she would confront it immediately, maybe even scold loudly. Seeing how heartbroken you said you were earlier, it’s conceivable you’d slap me twice right there and argue with the old man, isn’t it?"
"Of course... I slapped you twice then and had a quarrel with him!" Evelina replied.
"Since there would be such a confrontation, I suppose the restaurant staff would remember it vividly. So may I ask, Mom, which restaurant was it at? I’d like to ask the staff there if they recall this incident!"
