CHAPTER 46: CHAPTER 46 MIDNIGHT KITCHEN

The dinner felt like chewing wax for Mabel Quinn, and she hardly ate anything. Once back in her room, her stomach seemed to hurt even more.

This kind of stomach pain was somewhat familiar to her. After walking into the bathroom and taking off her pants, she saw, indeed, her period had come.

Fortunately, she had brought sanitary pads with her, avoiding the embarrassment of having to run out to buy them this late at night.

While changing her underwear, Mabel sighed inwardly, thinking that if her period had come two days earlier, she wouldn’t have been awkwardly taken to the Hospital by Kyle Kinston to check for pregnancy.

With her period and barely eating dinner, Mabel became both hungry and in pain later on. Unable to endure it any longer, she ventured out to the kitchen, hoping to find something to eat.

There were still some ingredients in the fridge, and Mabel figured she could make a simple vegetable soup. She washed the ingredients, cut them up, and while the soup was cooking, she rubbed her stomach.

Perhaps because of hunger, this time her menstrual cramps felt more painful than usual.

"What are you doing?" Suddenly, a voice came from behind her.

She was startled, almost dropping the ladle, and when she turned around, she saw a tall figure walking leisurely towards her.

"I... was a bit hungry, so I came to the kitchen to cook something to eat," she said awkwardly.

He approached her, and upon seeing her pale face, his brows furrowed suddenly. "Why do you look so unwell?" His gaze then fell on her hand rubbing her belly, "Is your stomach uncomfortable?"

"Yes," she answered softly, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"I’ll call a doctor to check on you. As for the hunger, the cook can be asked to prepare something for you," he said.

What? Call a doctor directly? Mabel was utterly embarrassed and quickly said, "No, no, I just..."

"Just what?" He looked at her hesitating, "Just what?"

"I just got my period," her face flushed red.

"Period?" The CEO was evidently not well-versed in this, his eyes still filled with confusion.

"It’s... the time of the month. So, just eating something warm to make my stomach feel better is enough," Mabel’s face turned even redder, truly wishing she could disappear into a hole. If she’d known she would run into him this late at night, she would have preferred staying hungry in her room.

In contrast, the CEO remained calm, picked her up horizontally, and carried her out of the kitchen, placing her on a dining chair. "Since you’re not feeling well, just sit and rest properly."

"But my soup’s still cooking, it’ll be done in two more minutes." She hurriedly said, yet his hand on her shoulder prevented her from getting up.

He pressed his lips together and after a moment walked towards the kitchen, leaving her with two words, "Stay seated."

Mabel was surprised; could he possibly be... going to check on the fire for her? Two or three minutes later, watching Kyle Kinston bring out the vegetable soup, she realized one thing: he... indeed helped her with the fire.
