CHAPTER 49: CHAPTER 49 MEETING BY CHANCE
Adapting the novel into a screenplay, the original framework and story structure were all there. All she needed to do was add some dialogue and make the psychological descriptions in the book more suitable for film representation.
But what seemed easy to her at first turned out to be a different result after she handed the draft script to the editor-in-chief.
Because of this, at that moment, Lyra Grant took all her anger out on Mabel Quinn.
"If you think your draft wasn’t accepted because of the research, then changing the person who finds the research will yield the same result."
"You—" Lyra Grant’s face turned beet red.
"Moreover, targeting me is pointless. Instead, it’s more practical to revise the script properly." Mabel Quinn said, although the theft of the novel was already a fact, as the original author, this movie could be successfully filmed.
"Alright, let’s stop arguing. For the information Lyra needs, Lilith will be responsible for gathering it," Supervisor Lavender Foster said.
Lilith’s face instantly fell.
Lyra Grant concealed her anger, raised her chin, and said, "Of course, I’ll revise the script because it’s my novel." She then returned to her seat, feeling triumphant.
Mabel Quinn lazily smiled, genuinely puzzled at how Lyra Grant could be so shameless.
In the afternoon, Mabel Quinn saw Grace Yowell, dressed in high-end bespoke attire and wearing exquisite makeup, exuding an aura of wealth and nobility that made it difficult for Mabel Quinn to associate this person with her childhood playmate in the small mountain village.
However, when the supervisor introduced her name, she clearly saw the shock in her eyes. During the meeting, she also noticed that Grace Yowell’s gaze would often glance in her direction.
When the meeting ended, Mabel Quinn didn’t expect Grace Yowell to approach her first.
"You—" Grace Yowell scrutinized her but didn’t speak for a while.
"You’re Yao Yao, right? Yao Yao from Gale Village. I’m Tong Tong, remember?" Mabel Quinn proactively said.
A complex light flickered through Grace Yowell’s eyes, and then she smiled with delight, "It’s really you! I was just wondering how it could be such a coincidence. I didn’t expect you to be a screenwriter here."
"I’m just an intern. I didn’t expect you to be the lead actress in this film," Mabel Quinn replied with a smile.
After chatting about their lives, Grace Yowell asked seemingly casually, "Tong Tong, how many people from the village do you still remember?"
"Uncle Yao and Aunt Yao, Le Hu, who sold rice and noodles, and Grandma Zhang, who always liked to sit at the village entrance embroidering..." Mabel Quinn listed. Finally, she asked, "By the way, is the family with the surname Zhang still in the village?"
Grace Yowell’s body stiffened, but she maintained her smile, "I don’t know which family you’re talking about."
"The one with a boy a few years older than us, he was about fourteen or fifteen when I first came to the village, the boy who couldn’t see with both eyes," Mabel Quinn said.
"I... I’m not sure." Grace Yowell struggled to maintain her composure, saying, "I have something to do. I’ll go now and let’s find a time to catch up someday." Without waiting for Mabel Quinn to respond, she hurriedly left.
