CHAPTER 517: CHAPTER 535 PLAYING THE VICTIM

I don’t know how much longer her body can hold on.

Mabel Quinn was surprised to see someone as she walked out of the Quinn Family house—Evelina, her mother.

Evelina was pleading with the Quinn Family’s butler to let her see Granny Taylor, holding a few boxes of gifts bought for her visit. But the butler refused, "The lady needs to rest now. Please come back. If she wants to see you, she will contact you by phone."

Evelina looked embarrassed, but her expression changed upon seeing Mabel coming out of the house, "What are you doing here?"

Mabel replied blandly, "I’m just here to see Granny." With that, she intended to walk away. Seeing her mother gave her a feeling of being at a loss for words, as if she no longer even had the desire to speak to her. To her, her life consisted only of her father.

But Evelina wasn’t going to let Mabel leave just like that. She grabbed her and questioned the butler, "Why can she see the lady, but I can’t?"

"Granny Taylor can choose to see whoever she wants. If you get to see her, you can ask then," the butler retorted coldly.

Evelina was fuming but helpless, and she could only glare at Mabel, "You’re doing pretty well with Kyle Kinston now, huh? How come you won’t even say hello when you see your mother? What kind of mother do I have?"

"I also wonder why I have a mother like you," Mabel replied. "You love my brother and neglect me, which I can understand as favoritism toward sons. But you go so far as to force me to spend millions on purchasing father’s mementos and publicly speak ill of me in online video interviews. I can hardly imagine a mother would do such things. I even want to ask, am I really your biological daughter? Why do you treat me this way?"

She thought she would be agitated and indignant when she saw her mother and said these things. But no, she spoke in a calm tone.

Maybe because the greatest sorrow comes from a dead heart, she no longer had any expectations from her mother and no longer craved any maternal love.

Evelina’s eyes flickered, and then she began to wail with a sobbing voice, "What, you still refuse to acknowledge me as your mom? Now that you have money, you don’t recognize your mother. What terrible luck do I have to give birth to such an ungrateful daughter! Your dad would disown you for being such an unfilial child!"

Mabel ignored Evelina’s theatrics and tried to pull her hand away to leave.

Evelina saw this and clung even tighter to Mabel’s arm, "Fine, your wings have hardened, have they? If you want to cut ties, then give me 10 million... no, 50 million, and I’ll agree to sever the relationship!"

Evelina thought about how easy it was to get 10 million from her daughter before. Kyle Kinston must be very wealthy, so she might as well ask for more now.

Mabel looked at the greedy expression on her mother’s face and felt a wave of nausea. Even now, her mother showed no trace of motherly love, only a desire to extract more from her.

"I won’t give you money, no matter how much," Mabel said.
