CHAPTER 600: CHAPTER 625: THE PAST OF THE KING’S FATHER AND MOTHER

"Okay." She smiled, went upstairs to change into some loungewear, then put on an apron and entered the kitchen.

Kyle Kinston followed her into the kitchen, helping Mabel Quinn with the preparations.

The two worked in seamless coordination, and since the servants of the Kinston Family were given the day off, the whole house was just the two of them.

As it was just the two of them, the menu Mabel prepared consisted of five dishes and a soup, plus three cold dishes. For just two people, this was quite a lot, but once the dishes were laid out on the table, she noticed it seemed a bit lacking, at least compared to those New Year’s Eve dinner photos her friends would post on social media, which were always full of dishes covering the entire table.

"Doesn’t it feel like there’s a bit less?" she said, a little embarrassed.

"Not at all, I think there’s plenty, and if we can finish all of this, it will be quite an achievement." Kyle said, pulling Mabel to sit down.

The New Year’s Eve dinner began, and as Mabel ate, she couldn’t help but keep looking at Kyle sitting opposite her, a smile emerging on her lips.

"What are you smiling at?" he asked curiously.

"Just thinking how nice it is to spend New Year’s Eve with you." This solid, warm feeling had been absent since her father passed away.

Hearing that, he also smiled, "From now on, every New Year’s Eve, we’ll spend it together."

Year after year, their future held many more New Year’s Eves, and in that moment, Kyle imagined the both of them, hair turned white, still spending New Year’s Eve like this.

The happiness his father never had, he would have, he surely would!

"By the way, earlier you called Uncle Kang, how is he doing?" Mabel asked with concern about Uncle Kang’s current situation. This old man was utterly loyal to the Kinston Family, dedicating most of his life to them.

"He’s doing well, though now, it seems he’s more concerned about you than me. He kept asking how you were over the phone, and when I would bring you back to Falling City," Kyle replied.

"Oh, what did you say?"

"I said, when I bring you back to Falling City, it will be when we get married, and then we’ll have our wedding in Falling City. I’ll make you the happiest bride," he said.

Mabel’s face turned slightly red, and she already felt immensely happy.

Mabel continued eating without noticing the trace of worry that passed Kyle’s face after he said those words.

Over the phone, he had also asked Uncle Kang about his parents. Uncle Kang, who watched his father grow up, should naturally know.

After he asked, Uncle Kang sighed after a long pause, "In the end, it was a doomed romance. Back then, your mother already had a fiancé, but unfortunately, he was seriously ill and needed medical expenses. Your mother didn’t have the money, and it was then that she met your father, who took care of that man’s medical bills, and your mother moved into the Kinston home."

"And then?"

"I don’t know if your mother ever truly loved your father, but perhaps she did. At least back then, they went in and out together, your father took her into Falling City’s social circles, announcing that your mother was his fiancée. Everyone thought they were in love. I also thought your father could finally live a happier life, after all, the Kinston Family Blood Curse was torturous, and with your mother as his lifeline, and them in love, it couldn’t have been better. But who could’ve known, when misfortune strikes, it’s unstoppable."
