CHAPTER 72: CHAPTER 72: LIFE BEFORE THE AGE OF 9

"Be careful, it’s hot," Kyle Kinston reminded.

So she slowed down her eating a bit.

After a few bites, she heard his voice again, "When you were looking at me just now, what were you thinking?"

She almost spat out the meat she hadn’t swallowed yet, "N-nothing, I just thought you seem pretty skilled at grilling skewers."

"My mom used to run a skewer stall, and sometimes I would help her out," Kyle said calmly.

But Mabel Quinn was shocked when she heard this. Kyle Kinston’s mother... used to run a skewer stall? And he helped when he was a child? That sounded unbelievable. "But aren’t you the young master of the Kinston Family?"

He chuckled lightly, but there was a hint of obvious sarcasm in his laugh, "Apparently there’s not much information about me online. I entered the Kinston Family at nine; before that, my life with my mother in K City was far from comfortable."

Mabel was speechless. He didn’t join the Kinston Family until he was nine? So he meant that before nine, his mother raised him alone? Indeed, there was little information about Kyle Kinston online. She could only find some basic details; nothing about his parents’ relationship or his life before nine was mentioned, just that he had lived in K City as a child.

After nine... was it because his mother passed away, and then he returned to the Kinston Family in Falling City with his father?

Mabel’s mind was a mess, not knowing what to say, so she continued to bury her head in the grilled skewers.

After eating for who knows how long, she finished her cola and even drank a can of beer from the table. It wasn’t until half the beer was down that she realized what she’d drank.

Her head was a bit dizzy, and her whole body felt warm. But even with her hazy mind, she remembered she was the host today. Seeing that they had almost finished eating, Mabel was about to settle the bill when suddenly two girls from the next table approached. One dressed somewhat boyishly pulled along another quite pretty girl, "What are you afraid of? If you’re scared, then I’ll talk to him for you!" She then turned to Mabel and Kyle and asked, "Are you two a couple?"

Mabel was befuddled due to the alcohol, so she just stared dumbly, unable to react.

But Kyle calmly said, "What if we are, and what if we’re not?"

"If you’re not, that’s even better. My friend really wants to meet you. We’re both students at S University, and my friend is the belle of our department. Many guys are after her, but she hasn’t dated anyone yet," the boyish girl said.

The girl dubbed as the belle, though a bit shy, was clearly gazing eagerly at Kyle with her bright eyes, obviously interested in him.

"What if I am dating her?" Kyle glanced at the still-dazed Mabel, curious about her reaction.

The two girls’ expressions changed noticeably upon hearing this. The boyish girl immediately said, "My friend is much prettier than this girl, and she has excellent grades. She hasn’t even graduated yet and has already been offered a job at the Television Station, with a very promising future. A man like you should be with a woman who matches your status, right?"
