Chapter 603: Chapter 512: A Day in the Life of Nightingale
The biting cold wind blew down the last leaf from the tree, and the withered leaf spiraled to the ground.
Silver-gray clouds covered the entire sky, and clusters of snowflakes drifted down, like countless pieces of torn cotton balls gently fluttering.
Winter had arrived.
The Elf Forest welcomed its first snowfall.
In front of the temple in the Beautiful City of Kenolan, Nightingale extended her hand to catch the snowflakes, feeling the cold sensation on her palm.
Her gaze shifted from the snow-filled sky to the city, increasingly lively with the efforts of the players and Half-Plane Half-Elves, her gaze growing softer.
“Another year has passed.”
She said softly.
“Yes, another year indeed.”
Another gentle voice responded, with a hint of wistfulness.
*Upon hearing the voice, Nightingale’s heart stirred, and she slowly turned her head.*
Behind her, Life Saintess Alice was looking at her with a warm smile.
Seeing Alice, Nightingale hurriedly bowed and drew a Life Scepter symbol on her chest,
“Good morning, Lord Alice, may the Goddess be with you!”
Alice also gave Nightingale a warm smile and said,
“Good morning, Miss Nightingale, may the Goddess be with you.”
After exchanging greetings, Nightingale noticed another figure standing beside Alice.
It was a male elf with brown hair.
Taylor Yan Sha.
Nightingale raised an eyebrow and said with a smile,
“Mr. Taylor, long time no see, congratulations on becoming a true elf.”
Taylor replied cheerfully,
“It’s all thanks to the Divine Crown’s blessing!”
After speaking, he devoutly drew a Life Scepter symbol on his chest and greeted Nightingale again,
“Long time no see, Miss Nightingale, you’re still as beautiful as always.”
Hearing Taylor’s words, Nightingale chuckled softly.
However, she quickly noticed the white, dignified Priest Robe he was wearing and was somewhat surprised,
“Eh? You’ve become a Life Priest?”
Taylor nodded gently and replied with a bit of pride,
“Being able to serve the Goddess is my greatest honor.”
Nightingale scratched her head.
She looked at Taylor with a hint of envy.
She also wanted to become a priest.
Unfortunately, despite working for the temple for so long, she still couldn’t pass the assessment.
*Of course, she knew her own nature was rather carefree, indeed unsuitable for becoming a priest.*
*Moreover, over half a year ago, she had learned the bad habit of eating meat from the Chosen Ones…*
*Although reason told her she shouldn’t eat meat, she couldn’t help it; the Chosen Ones’ barbecue was simply too enticing, and after tasting it the first time, she could never give it up.*
*She realized she might never become a priest in this lifetime.*
*However, thinking about the abilities priests possessed, especially the miraculous healing power, Nightingale couldn’t help but yearn.*
“If only I could become a priest… I’d be able to help him, right?”
*She thought to herself.*
*Sighing in her heart, Nightingale looked at Alice and curiously asked,*
“Is Taylor the one taking over my duties?”
Since the Oros Half-plane had been incorporated under the church’s management, the church had been quite understaffed.
So, the devout Nightingale had been roped into it, taking over the priest’s task of overseeing new Half-plane recruits for several days.
However, today was the day her duty was to be transferred.
“That’s right, Taylor has now become a priest, and he will be responsible for guiding in the half-plane. Since the half-plane is his hometown, it’s more fitting for him to take on this task. I’m here today to transition responsibilities, and you’ve worked hard recently, Miss Nightingale.”
Alice said.
Nightingale waved her hand nonchalantly,
“It’s my duty, it’s my duty, all for the future of the Elf Clan.”
She and Alice chatted for a few more moments before Nightingale and Taylor began transitioning the duties.
There weren’t many things to hand over.
After about half an hour, they were nearly finished.
With her duties completed, Nightingale felt a weight lift from her shoulders, her stress lessened.
“Now that this work is done, I’ll return to the Chosen City.”
She breathed a sigh of relief and said.
Alice nodded and thanked her once more,
“You’ve worked hard, Miss Nightingale.”
“It’s my duty, it’s my duty. Let’s meet up with Lord Alice for a meal! Taylor should come too, ha! I heard the Chosen Ones opened a new restaurant in Chosen City, and it’s quite good. Let’s plan it next time, uh… don’t worry, it’s all vegetarian dishes.”
Nightingale said cheerfully.
Alice also nodded with a smile,
“Maybe after this task, Taylor and I have other missions to accomplish.”
“Missions, huh…”
Nightingale realized and nodded.
She knew the church had been busy with some matters lately.
Not only the church, but the Chosen Ones were also hard at work preparing for battle.
The reason was, of course, the news from several days ago about the appearance of the Divine Country of the world tree in the Death Desert.
Subsequently, the Chosen Ones also sent a declaration of war to the Half-Beasts.
Nightingale had learned the content of the declaration through private channels.
However, knowing Eve Goddess’s true identity, she naturally guessed that the so-called Divine Country was a facade.
*Yet, there seemed to be calculations only a True God would make, possibly involving disputes among the Divine, which were beyond Nightingale’s worries.*
*Now, all she wanted was to hurry back to the Chosen City after completing the handover task.*
“Considering the days… they should be back soon, right?”
*Nightingale murmured expectantly to herself.*
…
Having bid farewell to Alice and Taylor, Nightingale quickly returned to the Chosen City through the Teleportation Array.
