Hi, hope you’re all doing well. I’ve been OK. Nothing to worry about. To make it brief, I’m going to pause billing on Patreon for a little less than a month (after the next chapter on Monday) and take time off to finish editing book 3. But since no one can expect a writer to be brief, you can read the full details below :)

The plan was to edit book 3 in bits and pieces, while also writing new chapters. Maybe put out some shorter chapters (which never really worked out). I’ve made decent progress, but it’s been less than I would have liked. At my current pace, it’ll take me another six months to finish editing it how I like—which is not really viable (for me or my publisher XD)

It’s the longest one by far (93 chapters) and even only spending a couple hours per chapter (and it’s often more), it’ll take another ~130 hours of work for the remaining part. With my track record on estimates, I dare say it’s probably going to be longer ¯(ツ)/¯

Having book 3 hanging over me has also been causing me a silly amount of anxiety. And I realized, I’ve been doing the same thing I did last summer: trying to grasp everything, only to end up burning myself out and taking longer to recover.

I don’t want to repeat that experience. The only other solution would be to cut corners on new chapters or the editing of book 3. Blame my perfectionism, but I can settle for good enough, when I know I can deliver something better with a little more time.

It scares me to take a break, but I’ve realized the most sensible solution is to pause Patreon on billing for a month (any subscription that gets renewed during the month won’t be charged). So, I can get book 3 out of my mind and come back ready to charge through book 5.

For how Patreon works, it only works to pause the billing in one-month increments. It also won’t allow anyone new to subscribe for that period. I’ll pause the billing on Monday after the usual release (till September 18th) in case anyone wants to read the chapters ahead. Anyone currently subscribed at that time won’t get charged for the following month.
