CHAPTER 27: HIS TRUE PERSONALITY

Aaliyah was curious by nature, and she would be lying to herself if she said she didn’t want to know more about what he was talking about. His eyes irresistibly urged her to say yes, and she swallowed at how much they were sucking her in.

Their faces were so close, and her toes were curling and uncurling as she was forcefully trying to gain back control of her body. How can a person be this attractive and spellbinding at the same time?

"Think about...,"

He had paused halfway because she had already begun nodding her head. She was biting her lip again, and that string of sincerity and wonder coursed through her eyes, showing him just how anxious and curious she was about knowing this.

Aaliyah had nodded, but what exactly had come over her? There are things about herself she cannot say, and parts of her that had been tainted. She was extremely sensitive about those fragile parts and should have known better than to say yes.

But...this was Alastair.

She might be stupid to think he won’t hurt her, but what’s even more stupid is opening her arms to him so fast just because he claims to have changed. What if she suddenly goes back to his old ways and she’s already given him everything? Has it always been this hard to resist someone?!

"Are you sure, Little Siren?" He questioned, eyes darkening a bit, "The minute you give me your full approval, there is no going back."

Aaliyah’s mouth went dry, and she finally forced her eyes away from the depths of his fierce gaze. What does he mean by there’s no going back? But no matter what, her answer should be no. Her head was screaming at her to say no, that it was a bad idea.

But her heart was crazy and was yearning to... strengthen their bond.

He had shown her a little heaven, and she was begging for more already. Even if she does decline his offer now, she knows herself to say yes eventually. Her heart would always win at the end.

It was one of the stupidity she can’t get rid of.

Not giving the heart what it wants... especially when it has to do with this man.

Steeling her mind, she told herself that whatever the repercussions that might await her at the end of the road, she should be ready to embrace it with wide arms, "I... don’t want to go back," She replied softly and looked back up into his eyes.

Her blue eyes seemed to be begging him for mercy. To take it easy on this foolish heart of hers, but he wasn’t one to ever listen. She should know by now that he was heartless and everything he’s done so far, was only for his own benefit, "When should we start?"

She didn’t want to sound so helpless for it, "Whatever time you decide,"

Aaliyah could not bear it and could not wait to leave the library. She couldn’t wait for him to finish the book, and when he finally did in the evening, she was so relieved.

He picked her up and took her downstairs to the kitchen where he placed her on a sofa he had dropped there earlier while she watched him prepare dinner.

One would think perfect men like him knew how to do everything, but Aaliyah was puzzled to see him take out a cookbook and start to follow the steps. The fridge had been restocked, and she watched him take out a chicken and prepare it.

It wasn’t just the fridge, the whole mansion had been made more conducive for living. The daylight did not let her notice it, but the light bulbs and all the old gadgets had been replaced. Every corner of the mansion was sparkling clean and the lit chandelier in every corner of the room made it so enchanting.

Oh my. Did someone possess Alastair?

"Alastair?"

"Yes, little Siren?"

"Would you believe me...if I told you that place called the Hollow...feels different from anywhere else?" She had been wondering about it.

"What do you mean?" He was taking the chicken out of the oven.

"I know this sounds crazy, but Nightwalkers exist. Many of them. They’re even worse than the books describe them to be,"

Aaliyah said and looked up to see that he had paused to listen more carefully.

"It does sound crazy," He answered.

"But I know what I saw, and what I went through. Then there was an army of the undead...and a voice!." Aaliyah laughed at herself, "I’m still trying to convince myself that it’s not real, but these wounds I have didn’t just appear on my skin overnight," She paused, "How Long was I unconscious?"

"Two days,"

Aaliyah jumped from her seat, "Two days?!"

The pain from her aching parts knocked into her, and she winced and fell back on the chair. When she looked at Alastair, she noticed how he didn’t even spare her a glance.

She was right. The man’s true personality was being heartless.

The rest was just fake.

But if he was right about her being out for two days, that meant she only had eight days left to make him Softer, just like Theodore had asked. She had to and was not ready for the consequences that might follow.

"Tell me more about...the Hollow,"

Aaliyah narrowed her eyes at him with a pissed expression. Now he was just trying to extract information from her, "It’s a good thing those creatures aren’t out in the human world. Imagine how chaotic our lives would turn to if those things step out...or if there are other creatures living or hiding among us!" She said aggressively, "That would be so crazy! I would never accept such. They should be purged from this world!" Aaliyah kept on eyeing him, making him get the idea that she might just be referring to him in particular.

"Dinner is ready,"

She gobbled up all the food he was feeding her while creasing her brow with an annoyed face. How the hell was she supposed to make him Softer in eight days?! If she could move her arms freely, she would have pulled on her hair by now out of frustration.

She had her arms folded as he picked her up, and she thought he was taking her back to the room when he went over to the couch and sat down.

"Now," His deep voice whispered hoarsely, "Try not to scream, Siren."

She had been confused, bothered by why his tone had changed all of a sudden. This voice did things to her insides and made her involuntarily squeeze her thighs shut. Her normal breathing was slowly turning into pants as her eyes held his.

He lowered his head to meet hers, and she closed her eyes thinking he was about to kiss her again when he buried his head in her neck as his sharp teeth slowly sunk into her skin, driving her close to insanity.
