CHAPTER 37: HIDE AND SEEK

"Everything ready?"

"Ready!"

"Get in,"

"We are all set to take off,"

Aaliyah looked like the happiest person on earth. She had requested something so childish from Alastair, and he had agreed to do it with her. Aaliyah had reserved today as the day of asking weird and crazy things they could do all around the mansion.

Right now, both of them were sitting inside a large rectangular basket. It was strong enough to hold their weight, and not break. They had padded the inside with several pillows to protect their butts, and Aaliyah was in front with Alastair’s chest pressing on her back.

She glanced back at him with a naughty and excited smile, and he only nodded back. Then, she looked straight forward again, and in front of them were several descents of stairs. They had come all the way to the third floor, and this ride was supposed to take them all the way to the ground floor.

Alastair had used curved plastic to connect one stair to the next, making sure the fun didn’t end till they got to the last floor. She took hold of the front of the basket while Alastair grabbed the sides.

"Go!"

Releasing the rope holding them back, and the rubber slide down the plastic. Aaliyah screamed lightly, her hands flaring in the air as they went down so fast, with Alastair maneuvering the basket to keep them on track.

Aaliyah did not know what a rollercoaster felt like, but she had a hunch this might be close to the feeling of being on it. She glanced back at Alastair again, unafraid. She was laughing and smiling and Alastair did not know why he thought it looked so incredible.

Her face was bright. Her smile was bright.

He didn’t know when he swallowed, and that had him worrying about himself. He could not take his eyes off her, and nor could she till they almost rode off course and he had to quickly stir them back while Aaliyah gasped and looked up front again.

In a few seconds, they were already on the ground floor riding into it with a bit of momentum. Aaliyah has never been so happy to live in a place with so many floors!

"Again! Again! Again!" She cried happily and looked back at Alastair again. This time, he refused to meet her eyes to avoid all those strange things happening to him.

"What else would you like to do?" He inquired.

"Can we go on this ride one more time? Just...one more?" She raised a finger to his face, pleading with her eyes.

"Of course," Quickly, he stepped down from the basket to put a bit of distance between them. Before she could come down herself, he had picked up the whole thing with her in it and started to climb back up.

She turned around to complain that he should drop her and that she can walk herself, but he had seen it coming, "No, Sit!" He instructed a bit harshly and she obeyed, wondering why he was acting weird all of a sudden.

The second time they went down again she screamed and turned to look at his face, he pretended to be so concentrated on maneuvering them correctly and had his eyes fixed on the basket. Aaliyah thought to herself what was wrong with the man, but then shrugged, deciding to ask him later and enjoy the ride.

She leaned forward and dropped a kiss on his cheek, then stared forward again with her hands in the air as they approached the ground floor again, missing how his Adams Apple bobbed up and down.

When they came to stop, she was tempted to ask him for another round but they still had tons to achieve today.

"That was so fun!" She giggled to herself, her legs trembling from the excitement as she stepped down from the basket only to get herself carried again by her husband.

"I can walk!" She stated, "Your arms will get tired carrying me around every day,"

"They won’t. What’s next on the list?"

"Hide and Seek," she clapped again.

"How can we play hide and seek when you can’t even walk?"

"I’m healing well, and I’ll manage," She argued.

"No, you won’t," He gave her a once over, and she crossed her hand over her chest defiantly with a stubborn look on her face.

Finally giving in to the cold glares she kept sending to him, he walked up to a corner of the room and took out a pair of shoes. They resembled flip-flops but were about three inches high and looked so soft.

He kept them on the ground, "Put that on. It’ll keep your feet from hurting. Try to take your time when walking. Don’t rush,"

Her mouth fell open, "How long have you had this?"

He must have had it for days now, probably since she was unconscious or something. They looked brand-new and the tag hadn’t even been cut out. He had not left her side ever since she woke up, giving more meaning to her suspicions. Why didn’t he just give her these from the start? Or...her eyes narrowed at him with humor.

"Don’t tell me you enjoyed carrying me that much?" She smirked, watching his expression closely.

"Of course, I enjoy carrying you. You’re my wife and so light I don’t even know I’m carrying anything,"

Her mouth dropped to the floor this time. He had called her his wife, and she would be lying if it didn’t bring butterflies into her tummy and made her feel so special.

"Wear them," He urged.

Her eyes blinked as she came back to the present to see him holding the flops to her leg. She wore them and he let her down to test how they felt on her feet. She did something ridiculous and spread out her hands, reeling in the softness, and took a step like a walking penguin.

"Shoes," She said to herself, "My favorite piece of clothing Item. This one is perfect, thank you...my husband," She swallowed when she said that and gave him a playful smile to hide the shyness that had climbed up to her cheeks.

He could only stare.

"Now, I’m gonna stay here and count from one to a hundred. You’re gonna hide and I’ll come get you!" She said and proceeded before he could even suggest that she was the one to hide instead of him.

She faced the way, her back to him, "One...,"

It was the silliest thing ever. He just kept roaming around his own house, wondering about the perfect place to hide from her. He couldn’t believe he was saying this, but...he wasn’t so bored anymore. It felt so weird for his blood to start pumping this hard.

He settled for a corner on the second floor, not wanting to go too far and stress her legs. He even wanted to leave clues of where he was, but knowing her, she would want to find him on her own...so he squeezed himself into a dark corner where the sunlight could not reach.

"100...," She screamed out loud so he could hear and took off.

She took off into a run but then remembered what he said about taking her time not to stress her legs. Aaliyah suppressed her heightened senses and began searching for him, wanting to do this normally.

He searched the ground floor, but couldn’t find him anywhere. As soon as she arrived on the second floor, the senses she had suppressed picked up his presence and she knew where he was hidden. God, she thought she had sucked in everything.

However, she still pretended not to know where he was hiding and began searching for him carefully, "Alastair?" She called out.

Silence.

"Oh, so you’re not gonna go back to not answering me now?!" She said, laughing at her own joke.

"What floor are you hidden? Talk to me...My husband," God, she was killing herself with her jokes. How silly of her.

Ten minutes passed, and she was still checking around. She intentionally avoided the dark corner, trying hard to hide the smile in her eyes, "You’re not on this floor too?" She started yapping again, "I guess I’ll have to go to the third floor...and check inside your room," This time, she could not hold back her laughter. She was making it too obvious that she knew where he was.

"Ha!" She jumped into the dark corner.

The smile on her face disappeared to find it empty. When did he...? How did he...?

"Little Siren...!" She heard him whisper, and she whirled around. Now she was more serious about finding him.

"Alastair!" She whispered back and started moving with caution. He was around here somewhere...he had to be.

"You can’t find me that easily," Came his deep whisper again that brought pleasure down her spine.

"Oh really?" She smiled, "Is that a challenge?!"

"It’s a statement, Wife,"

"Don’t test me. I’ll find you,"

"Then what are you waiting for? I’m right here...,"

Aaliyah thought about it for a minute, and then she made her conclusion, "So, you never left, huh?"

Turning around, she walked back into the dark corner. There was no one in line of her sight...till she looked up and almost burst into a run.
