Enchantment Of The Night
Chapter 60: The Awakening in the water
CHAPTER 60: THE AWAKENING IN THE WATER
A human?!
That was the question that crossed everyone’s mind as she walked down the stairs confidently, bubbling with anger. All eyes were on her, except one that looked uninterested and had the dullest look in history.
She strode over and stood next to Blake Fang, her eyes flaring and glaring back up and Laura and her annoying Friends.
Yuan was stunned.
Trumpets were blown, and four white doors suddenly appeared behind the contestants. They were closed and had no knob to open them, standing there with no support whatsoever.
"The task is simple. The first contestant to return with the Golden Medallion wins! There are no rules to the phantom game. Once you step inside those doors, you’re free to do as you wish...,"
No rules? Aaliyah finally glanced at the other contestants. The first girl was a witch and even had a wand on her. The second one was a guy that looked so skinny and tall, and to top it all off he was holding a book and was putting on glasses.
And the last person was Blake Fang, the muscular one with no shirt.
Another trumpet was blown, and the four of them turned around and walked up to their doors. Now that it was really dawning on her that her life was on the line, her fingers shook as she raised her hand to push the door open.
Blake, who was next to her, glanced and noticed her distress. He casually took his eyes away and faced his own door, wondering what trials and tribulations awaited him on the other side. Of course, after he had received his letter as one of the participants, he used his connections to get through to the last Vampire that had won the game, seeking knowledge on the tests that the Vampire went through.
And as crazy as they sounded, it probably wouldn’t be any help because the trials changed every year.
Blake glanced at the human next to him again, her fingers about to push the door open. She looked so small and useless...What could the school have seen in her to have sent her that letter?
She was definitely special, despite her appearance.
Everyone opened their various doors at the same time, and Aaliyah saw darkness lying ahead right before a strong suction pulled her into the door, leaving her small Yelp behind as the door closed back gently on the outside, leaving the crowd roaring with cheers.
Yuan was sweating.
Asking Aaliyah to join the phantom game and Aaliyah actually joining are two different scenarios. It had finally hit her fully that she might never see her friend again, and it was all because of the idiot sitting behind her.
"And that...is the end of her story. An Insanely painful death...Good for her,"
Yuan wanted to punch Laura in the face but decided a perfect comeback would be when Aaliyah walks out again victoriously with the Golden medal. That way, Yuan would properly give Laura the Biggest insult, along with the shame she would be feeling.
Yuan could not wait to see the look on Laura’s face when that happens!
.
.
The pull was too strong. Aaliyah was being sucked down, deeper and deeper into the earth. She was scared her landing would be fatal and she would be left with broken bones and a pool of blood, that was if she didn’t even end up dead.
All she saw was darkness as she kept descending for what seemed like minutes before her legs crashed on the hard floor. The pain was intense, and she grunted and squirmed a bit, thankful that the suction had disappeared at the very last second making the fall a lot lighter.
She had only sprained an ankle.
The New environment she found herself in barely had enough air, suffocating her the longer she stayed on the ground moaning in pain. It was dark, but she could see through the darkness and pushed herself up, dragging the sprained leg on the ground.
Behind her, there was a mirror. It portrayed a reflection of herself, but there was a difference between the reflection and her. In that reflection, Aaliyah saw something stuck to her chest.
It was a few inches long, and she leaned in to look at it closer and saw that it was the handle of a dagger.
A Maqbath.
Chills ran down Aaliyah’s spine, and she paused. Thick sweats broke on her skin as she realized that she had leaned in to see her reflection better, but the reflection on the mirror was still standing straight.
It felt impossible to move again. Aaliyah wanted to stay in that position forever and not look up at her creepy reflection that had just scared the living daylights out of her. But staying in that position for a while with a sprained ankle would only make the pain worse, forcing her to pull back to her full length again.
But it didn’t go as easy as she thought.
The reflection suddenly moved, extending its arms sharply forward and the hand broke out of the mirror and grabbed Aaliyah’s shirt, leaving Aaliyah’s eyes trembling in fear. She was this close to screaming again.
On the ground were the tiny pieces of the broken mirror of the holes the arm had come through, and Aaliyah ultimately glanced up and locked eyes with the cold expression on her reflection’s face. The reflection looked dead, blood running down her mouth and gushing out of where the Maqbath was fixed deep into her chest.
It was a terrifying sight.
In another moment, the reflection had pulled Aaliyah forward and Aaliyah’s body crashed into the mirror, shattering the whole thing.
As the pain of the impact was about to settle, the breath in her lungs and she was suddenly bathed with later only to realize that she had been pulled into a large body of water. The mirror and room had disappeared, and she flared both hands and legs rampantly to stop herself from sinking further down.
This could only be described as a nightmare.
No wonder many do not make it out alive!
How on earth was she supposed to find the Golden medallion without being able to breathe? Was it somewhere inside the water? But it would be impossible to find!
Just as she kicked her legs started to swim up, seaweeds rushed up from beneath the ocean, wrapped themselves all over her leg, and started to pull her down.
The seaweeds were red and moved fast, wrapping themselves quickly around both of her legs and squeezed them together. Aaliyah was trying to shake them off but the feel of the weed around her leg made them seem stronger than normal seaweed.
Her lungs begged for air, but they continued to pull her under. Aaliyah was forced to swim down and use her hands to try and entangle the weeds, bubbles of air leaving her mouth. But just as she suspected, the weeds had an iron texture, and trying to break iron in water was unbearable.
She kept descending down, the hope of breathing fresh air soon snatched away from her. Her lungs cried for air, and she mewled and more bubbles escaped her mouth, trying hard to disentangle the iron weed from her leg.
The pain and hunger in her lungs grew, and her body was forced to open up. Water rushed into her lungs quickly, and it was painful and suffocating. It felt like her head was being squeezed, and the pain only grew the more she breathed in more and more water.
As she descended, drowning with her eyes closed and hands floating in the water, all that remained below that even more darkness, pulling her further from the light that was above.
Aaliyah had fallen to the stream bed of the river, and she had been lying there for hours. She wasn’t breathing, and her face was as white as a ghost. She had gotten too much water into her lungs, and ought to have been dead.
Suddenly, her chest heaved up and down softly. It was almost unnoticeable at first, slowly but surely as the force of her breaths grew. More water was rushing into her lungs, but it didn’t seem to be affecting her this time.
Infact, the heavy breaths she was taking now made it look like she had been yearning to breathe in the water, like there was nothing else her body wanted more at the moment.
Then, her eyes opened spontaneously with her blue eyes glowing in the darkness of the riverbed. In a flash, she had summoned an untold amount of strength and had ripped the seaweed from her legs completely.
One of her legs hit the base of the river, and she took off swimming fast. Her legs flapped like the tail of a fish, and she moved quickly and climbed up further and further till she sighted light coming from the top.
A rush of water behind her had her looking down to see the seaweeds coming straight for her again, also moving as fast as her. It seemed like they must have been enchanted or something to try and catch their prey no matter what, but she was not going to let them get the best of her for a second time.
"I was wondering why Olympia chose you. Now I see why," A voice whispered behind her.
Aaliyah whirled around to see who it was, but there was no one there.
