Enchantment Of The Night
Chapter 62: A Mirror Child
CHAPTER 62: A MIRROR CHILD
Marco, the Skinny contestant paused when he saw the both of them standing across him, staring back at him. He didn’t expect to see that the human girl had made it this far, and wasn’t crawling on the floor with a phantom next to her.
All he had been doing was running away from the Ghosts.
Taking advantage of the distraction that came with the skinny boy, the ghost quickly ran away from Aaliyah to save itself.
Aaliyah sighed and stood straight, properly facing the skinny boy. It didn’t seem to her he wanted to fight, and there was this tired and lazy but aggressive steel look dancing in between her glowing eyes, warning him to back away from her aura snaking around the place.
But Marco was never one to back down. This game was meant to test them, and he would be ashamed of himself even till his death if he surrendered because of a human.
But...is she really human?
Aaliyah sighted a book clasped to his hip with a chain. It was big, probably heavy. But he was a Vampire which made it extremely for him.
Unlike her who was wet from the storm, the boy’s body was covered in dust and sand. There were several bike marks all over the exposed parts of his body and they had swollen up.
Another scream came from somewhere in the maze, but none of them cared much about that anymore.
"You wouldn’t have found the Medallion now, would you?" He asked, a bit of dust leaving his mouth as he spoke. And the depth of his voice was the exact opposite of his appearance.
The Medallion was obviously reflecting through the glasses around them, but Marco’s eyes were solemnly on her.
Could it be that...he could not see it? But how?
"What if I did?" She retorted, standing her ground, "I’m assuming you’ll kill me for it,"
"That is except if you hand it over nice and slow," He murmured, closing the distance between them with every step.
"That’s unfortunate," Aaliyah replied smoothly, and smirked, "I’m the one getting into Olympia and not you. How about you turn around and go back to where you came from...nice and slow,"
Using his words against him ticked a nerve, and Aaliyah found herself being choked against the wall in a flash.
"Where is it?" He demanded.
"All around you, you blind fool!" She fired back and grabbed his hand, pulling it away from her neck.
He was surprised to her opposing his strength with hers, right before her knee shot up and hit him hard in the chest.
He groaned in pain and grabbed his chest, backing away from her. Aaliyah found blood on his lips, comprehending how hard she had hit him.
But then, it was his fault for attacking ber first.
"Stay away from me," She warned and broke into a run, "Next time, I would show no mercy,"
Running around proved hopeless once again. The Medallion was reflecting on all the glasses, but where exactly was it hidden?
Also, she noticed the Ghosts that showed up were now keeping their distance. How badly she wanted to get a hold of one and demand they tell her where the dang Medallion was so that she could attend Olympia and kick Laura’s ass.
Another scream came from somewhere In the maze. If the Ghosts weren’t the ones screaming, then what the hell was?
Running helter-skelter, Aaliyah found nothing and was stuck on finding the Medallion. She was pretty sure she had been running for hours now and was greatly weakened.
Her legs gave out and she slipped down one of the glass, staring at the one in front of her, "Where is the Medallion? How are we supposed to find it?" She whispered to the wall desperately, "And if I do find it, how am I supposed to get out of here? I’m helplessly lost!" Aaliyah threw her hands in the air dramatically, "And I was this close to missing the games until that Fang girl opened her mouth and started spewing nonsense!"
A corner next to her, and the faint presence of someone there had her on her feet again, "Who’s there?" She burst out, "Come out before I come to you!" Her steps never faltered as she approached the corner.
She didn’t care if she would be attacked the next moment and have herself dead on the floor.
But one thing was clear. It was the faint presence of a Male Vampire, different from the skinny one she had encountered.
Blake...Fang?
Before she reached the corner, the presence was gone and the person was nowhere to be found. The only thing he left behind was the tiny whiff of his scent that lingered in the air, smelling like old books.
Aaliyah had no idea why, but her guts told her to follow the scent and she did so. She remembered the time she had stood next to Blake in the stadium, and he had looked confident in himself.
He might just lead her to the Medallion.
As she ran, she halted immediately a scream came from below her. It sounded like one of the several screams she had heard, and lying there on the floor were pieces of broken mirror that had been glued together, forming what resembled a baby.
A baby...made of mirror.
And it was screaming.
The intensity of its scream increased to the point she could not bear it anymore. It was so loud the walls of glass around her began to vibrate, cracking under the shrilling scream of the thing.
That was Aaliyah’s cue to run away.
But each second was crucial, and the few ones she had wasted looking at the glass baby made her pay dearly.
The baby’s scream suddenly increased exponentially, and the wall of glass around her shattered, the sound excruciatingly painful in her ears as the shards of sharp glass fell everywhere and on her, burying her under the pile.
And silence enveloped the whole place. There was no movement whatsoever under the pile of broken glass...and neither was there the sound of breathing.
