Enchantment Of The Night
Chapter 64: The Spikes
CHAPTER 64: THE SPIKES
Aaliyah had climbed to the top and was now running on it. The walls were as wide as a door, and she frequently turned around to see where the others were at.
Luckily for the witch, she had cast a spell on herself which had stopped her fall and propelled her back to where she was before on the wall.
The next time Aaliyah turned around, the other three had also climbed up and were right behind her. The two Vampires had superhuman speed and would catch up to her in a flash even though she had put so much distance between them.
The Medallion was still glowing in her pocket, and she sighed. Running on glass was harder than she initially thought, and she could slip and fall at any time. The Vampires knew that too, that must be why they hadn’t supersped here and snatched the medallion from her.
As if the slipperiness wasn’t enough, the wall they were running on suddenly began to shake heavily. Every wall in the maze was shaking, trembling from its foundation.
The four of them were thrown off their feet and fell on the glass. Aaliyah extended both hands and held each edge of the glass to keep her from slipping further. The wall giggled and leaned in left and right, obviously trying to throw them off but none of them yielded.
The Vampires had used their claws and dug into the glass to keep them steady, and the witch had used a spell to balance herself from slipping, and even with all that they were still struggling to keep themselves from falling. The only person in a dilemma was Aaliyah, who had no claws or spells and relied on her fingers and toes spread out around the glass.
She started to feel dizzy, and the slippery nature of the glass always had one of her limbs losing its grip. Aaliyah groaned, adjusting herself again properly, and held on as all the glass started to lean down as if they were going to fall, till they were only inches from touching the base of one another.
Then, they threw themselves back to their initial position without warning. The Witch yelped at the spontaneity of what just happened, while Aaliyah was very close to puking all over the place.
Finally, the Vibration stopped.
For about ten minutes, no one moved.
They could not. They were reeling from what had just happened and trying to recover quickly.
The first person to move was Blake, his red eyes fixed on the figure of the human girl lying down with her eyes closed tightly. She had refused to loosen her grip, still spread out like jam.
Blake carefully approached her, his footsteps silent.
Aaliyah was too distressed to notice him but then came a small breeze that brought his scent to her nose, reminding her that she was in a deadly game.
Her eyes popped open, and she turned around and caught Blake almost at her. He had overtaken everyone and was just a few feet away.
The second they locked gazes, He burst into a run.
Aaliyah was on her wobbly feet and had just taken a step when he caught up to her.
A strong arm wrapped around her neck and pressed her body against his chest while trying to turn off her lights. His other hand moved toward her pocket to take out the medallion.
Aaliyah elbowed him twice on the chest till he released her and staggered back holding his bruised chest that was hurting. Her strength was definitely many times more than that of a regular Human... but it still didn’t compare to his.
The next second they were both on each other’s neck, pushing and attacking each other. Any chance he got, Blake would try to snatch the medallion but her reflexes were good and she would move away.
Blake got even more serious and kicked her on the stomach, sending her flying back till she crashed on the wall and began to slip off. Aaliyah screamed as she slipped, quickly grabbing the edges but her body was dangling.
Blake ran over and stood atop her. All he needed to do was to step on her fingers and she would let go and fall.
Aaliyah breathed hard, looking down. She was quite high up, and a long fall would definitely break her leg.
Her eyes locked with Blake’s as she kept struggling to hold onto the edge, glaring daggers at him.
His eyes held no remorse. If they did, he didn’t show it.
"Hand the Medallion and I’ll help you up," He offered, stretching his hand.
Did this guy think she has three Arms or something? Two to support herself and one to take out the medallion and hand it to him? Couldn’t he see that her fingers were slipping off every second?
"I cannot do that, unfortunately," She replied, "If you need the medallion, come down here and get it," Aaliyah smirked deviously. None of them can go anywhere without the medallion. They would just have to keep following her aimlessly.
Just as she was about to let go, Blake reached in and grabbed one of her hands to keep her from falling, "You’re Crazy!" He cried.
"You’re just realizing that?" She retorted.
With one arm, he was pulling her like he was holding air. Her body went with him, but he wasn’t so generous as to help her up completely.
Blake let go halfway when it was only her legs that were now dangling and she tried to crawl up the remaining half.
That moment was enough for him. The Medallion was right in front of him and she was too busy using her hand to help herself up when he reached in to take the medallion from inside her pocket.
Victory awaited him.
He had prepared for this too much to let a silly girl take it all away from him.
Glass spikes shot out of the roof of the walls, impairing everyone’s legs who were standing on it.
The witch and Skinny Vampire who had gotten into a fight back there groaned and cried, their legs pierced by the shard shards of glass.
"Son of a bitch!" Blake moaned in pain and looked down at his legs to see tiny spikes had gone through them, a pool of blood forming under his feet.
Aaliyah who had both palms on the wall while climbing up had also gotten impaired on her palms, crying the hardest among the four of them.
