Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert)
Chapter 552
"Mr. Rupert? Mr. Rupert?"
Reese tugged gently at the man''s sleeve beside her.
Rupert snapped back to attention, his voice cool and distant. "What is it?"
Reese''s smile faltered for a second, but she quickly recovered. "We''re heading home now."
"You and Ms. Winslet go on ahead. I need to stop by the office." Rupert slipped his arm from her grasp and shot a chilly nce at Kay.
The look sent a shiver down Kay''s spine. She''d been about to nudge Reese into following Rupert, but under his icy stare, she could only put on a brave face and force a smile.
"Reese, I''ll go back with you. Let''s not keep Mr. Rupert from his work."
"Alright," Reese said, nodding, and followed Kay to the car.
Once the two women had left, Orson pulled up in front of Rupert and opened the car door for him.
Pressing down his suit jacket, Rupert paused before getting in, his voice low. "I want you to personally keep an eye on Sylvia."
Orson looked puzzled. "She''s got nothing left. I doubt she''ll try anything."
"You don''t know her like I do."
"Understood, sir."
On the way back to the Garcia house.
Reese gazed out the window, lost in thought.
Kay frowned. "Reese, why the long face? Now that Mr. Rupert''s moving back in, you two lovebirds should finally have more time together."
Reese turned to look at Kay, almost ring. "Aunt Kay, was it you who talked Tristan into moving Mr. Rupert''s things back from his Soho apartment?"
"I was just thinking of you!" Kay replied matter-of-factly.
"Aunt Kay! What do you think Mr. Rupert''s going to think of me now? That I''m just desperate to have him around? We''re not even married yet and I can''t wait?"
Reese was so frustrated she could barely breathe.
Kay hurriedly dug through her purse for Reese''s inhaler, handing it over and rubbing her back. "I just want you two to get along, that''s all."
Reese took a deep breath, then asked, "Aunt Kay, did you already know about Sylvia and Yves getting engaged?"
Kay froze for a split second, then muttered, "I just overheard it from Mrs. Hanson during our poker night. Besides, with Sylvia''s background, marrying into the Hanson family is a miracle for her."
Reese had practically been raised by Kay-she didn''t want to doubt her.
"Aunt Kay, I don''t want any more awkward run-ins like today. I don''t want to use other people to make myself look good. Sylvia might have her faults, but she''s not a bad person."
Kay shook her head in exasperation. "Oh, Reese, you''re just too soft! With your family and background, you could have anyone eating out of the palm of your hand. If I had your kind of power and money, forget Sylvia or Naomi-even Edwin Garcia would be dying to win me over." s
She didn''t let t any of that show on her face. Instead, she pressed her lips together and said gently, "Reese, you''re kind, but not everyone thinks the same. I didn''t invite Sylvia, and you do tell her about the meeting, So how did she know where to find you?" s
Reese hesitated, biting her lip.
Kay patted her hand. "I could tell from the moment I saw her-she''s up to something. I just wanted to show her she''s not wee. love you like my own, Reese. I won''t let anyone ruin your wedding sfn5ed2 This content belongs to Find~Novel/fn5ed2
Reese wanted to argue, but some small, selfish part of her held her back.
She just sighed. "Never mind, Aunt Kay. She''s getting married now. All the old rumors are in the past."
Kay nodded, turning to look out the window, a sly smile flickering at the corner of her mouth.
...
In another car.
Sylvia sat with her chin propped on her hand, not saying a word.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed twice.
It was a message from Yves.
"Where are you!!"
It wasn''t a question, really—it was a demand, and it was obvious Yves was furious.
Sylvia ignored him on purpose.
Yves clearly couldn''t stand being ignored. Over the next ten minutes, her phone
didn''t stop vibrating with a barrage of angry messages.
