CHAPTER 671: SPECTATING: MRS. CASTER VS. MOON LADY (I)

--

After that match, Cedric didn’t go on another one.

Instead, he chose to spectate other matches. He wanted to see more high-level matches to give him a little bit of insight about who he would face in the future.

There were a lot of Immortals participating in the Virtual Arena. Maybe even more now because of the upcoming tournament. Everybody must be polishing their combat skills, and the Virtual Arena was just the right stage for them to do so.

Cedric specifically searched for popular participants. One that had a lot of spectators. He didn’t care about match history or win ratio; he just wanted to see what made these people so popular.

Obviously, he’s aware that one could make money by broadcasting matches online, so he’s a bit wary about people who are too focused on that. But since this was the Immortal League, these people must at least have some decency to minimize the money-making side of things. They’re Immortals, after all; earning bangles shouldn’t be too hard for them.

This is where he discovered that there was an online page specifically reserved for this.

According to what he learned, this was petitioned by one of the avid fans of the Virtual Arena. It started as a passion project and has turned into an official thing.

Through this, Cedric didn’t have to figuratively search for a needle through a haystack. He just needed to pay attention to the names listed at the ranking, and if they’re online and in the middle of a match, Cedric could go and spectate them.

And it just happens that one of the more popular Immortal League Challengers is online and queuing up for a match right now.

Codename: Mrs. Caster

History: 2500 Matches

Ratio: 2015 Wins, 485 Losses

Mrs. Caster was placed in25th place on the Immortal League Rankings. Rumors said that she’s been around since the beta version of the Virtual Arena, but this has never been confirmed. And the only reason why nobody dared to confirm it was because it would indirectly call her too old. The Virtual Arena has been around for hundreds of thousands of years, after all, and it’s common knowledge that women are sensitive towards their age.

It’s a little silly, but her match history was the real deal. Cedric also couldn’t care less about these rumors. All he wanted to know is if he could learn something by watching her.

Her match began, and along with her, he as a live spectator was brought into the battlefield.

Cedric immediately became aware of just how many people were spectating this match. Although he couldn’t see them at all, he could sense their presence. He could even hear their hushed voices sometimes.

But he ignored all of this and focused on the match instead. And upon seeing Mrs. Caster for the first time, Cedric immediately thought:

’Wow, okay. No wonder why there are too many people here.’

Mrs. Caster was a tall lady, about seven feet and some inches tall, from what he could tell. She wore a veil that hid her face and a large hat, the same kind that wizards or witches usually wore.

She’s dressed modestly; her clothes cover most of her skin, but they can’t hide the absolutely outrageous proportions hidden underneath.

Her chest, hips, and buttocks were too large and round, so much so that they’re threatening to burst out of her clothes. She has a sleek and narrow waist and smooth and long legs, and she’s wearing red stilettos that show off her clean and manicured feet. Her long and silky black hair cascaded down behind her like a waterfall, and there seems to be a white halo forming behind her head.

’Step on me, Mommy! ’

"Who said that!?" Cedric was startled. Then he remembered that he wasn’t the only one watching her.

Seeing this, Cedric was initially doubtful. However, he calmed down and paid close attention.

Mrs. Caster was up against another lady.

This one, although not being as outrageously curvy as Mrs. Caster, had her own charm as well. Cedric didn’t see her codename on the list, but that doesn’t matter. Since she’s here, then she’s an Immortal; that’s all he needed to know.

Then, the countdown for the match ended.

As soon as the timer ran out, both participants moved.

Cedric immediately felt the origin energy stirring around the battlefield as if disturbed by the tension coming from both challengers. He and the other spectators weren’t affected, of course.

Then, out of nowhere, ten large Great Law Diagrams appeared around Mrs. Caster with a wave of her arm.

Their appearance was dazzling and mesmerizing, especially in Cedric’s eyes. He saw how the concept laws weaved naturally and in harmony within those diagrams to form runes that altered a specific natural phenomenon in their immediate surroundings.

Every detail was captured in his eyes, and to say that it was a work of art would certainly be a statement, because it truly was something.

These diagrams weren’t all for show either. Once they appeared, they were already altering the reality of the area they’re in. Cedric could sense the rules being altered everywhere, and it wouldn’t take long before they began to take effect.

His attention then shifted to the other party, and he saw that she too had released her own concept law diagram. However, compared to Mrs. Caster’s, she only had a single one, and it was beneath her, following her movements. It’s also large compared to the ones Mrs. Caster had.

Also, her concept law diagram wasn’t as complex and nowhere near as beautiful and harmonious in Cedric’s eyes. But it did one simple thing that’s sufficient for the current situation, and that is to prevent Mrs. Caster’s reality alteration from affecting her.

’She must’ve been aware that she couldn’t compete with her in terms of this; that’s why she settled with a simple one. Alright, then, what is she good at? ’

As if responding to his question, Cedric saw drawing a large and beautiful-looking bow from an empty space.

The bow was nearly as large as her. Whoever created this bow must’ve used an actual moon to make it. Cedric’s senses couldn’t be fooled. That bow purely consists of elements that could only be found on moons.

’That thing even has its own gravitational pull! What the hell! ’Cedric! he exclaimed and laughed to himself.

It was a truly outrageous thing, yet he expected no less from Immortals like her.

Planting her foot forward, the lady went into a shooting stance. As soon as she pulled the bowstring, which looked like it was made from pure silver origin energy, a beam of moonlight descended upon her.

The phenomenon seemingly dimmed everything else, making her the sole highlight of this battlefield. It was a dramatic and theatrical sight, like there’s a spotlight shining down on her alone.

A large silver arrow condensed from her bow. Cedric could feel the fearsome penetrating power of that arrow even before it was released. The concept law diagram beneath her also seemed to have benefitted from this because it shone with even more luster, tainted with silver that represented the moon.

Then, with an exhale, she released the shot.

But instead of a projectile shooting towards Mrs. Caster with blistering speeds. What happened instead was the silhouette of the moon appearing out of nowhere. And judging by how close it was, it was very clear that it was falling.

’She shot a moon at her; that’s wild! ’Cedric! he comically exclaimed to himself.

Interested in how Mrs. Caster will take this, he turned to look at her and saw that, just like before, she’s still surrounded by those large reality-altering concept law diagrams from before.

He didn’t feel any panic or wariness from her. It’s like she didn’t even see that falling moon at all.

And just as the moon came crashing to her, something incredible happened.

Crack!

The crisp sound of breaking glass was heard by everybody. The sound was unmistakable due to how out of place it was. Furthermore, there was actually a visible crack in reality. It’s like the moon hit a mirror that reflected the current state of reality in an attempt to break it.

But that wasn’t the other party’s intention at all, which meant that the source of this was Mrs. Caster all along.

The cracks spread to the moon, and then it shattered with a loud explosion.

Just like that, the falling moon disappeared. And it seems like it has never existed in the first place. The battlefield was the same as before.

It was a great display of reality alteration. She directly negated a natural calamity just like that. Mrs. Caster didn’t even lift a finger to do it.

’Runes. That’s her specialty. Cool,’ Cedric muttered to himself as he stared at the dazzling arrays around Mrs. Caster.

Rune specialists are very rare since it’s a vast and very complicated field of study. It takes ages just to make sense of it, and even then, the application wouldn’t even be as effective as swinging some cold weapons.

But what it lacks in lethality makes up for in its profundity. Those who found success in the runes could easily rewrite reality as they pleased, and that was something that waving a piece of metal could never do.

’So that’s why she has won so many battles! ’
