Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking
Chapter 768: A Chance
CHAPTER 768: A CHANCE
--
The structure of Heavenly Laws was far more complicated than Great Laws. So much so that even though Cedric already knew one, he’s still having a headache after staring and analyzing it for more than two hours straight.
Shaking his head, he withdrew his gaze. He knows that he can’t force this. He’s already cheating by being able to stare directly at the structure of laws without suffering any backlash; he doesn’t need to push his luck even more.
Stepping out of his seclusion chambers, he laid his eyes on his home.
It’s as prosperous and peaceful as usual. Their golden age continues even to this day; the development of his people never ceased. In fact, now that they’ve come to the Primitive Universe, there’s more work to do.
The Stormriders have long since retreated behind the scenes. While they still remain the de facto leader of humans of the Primeval Scarlet Dust Realm, they didn’t directly sit on the throne. They steer their people into the right direction from behind the scenes; as for the mundane matters, those were left for them to solve.
Even Godwyn rarely interferes at this point.
Speaking of Godwyn, and his sons for that matter, they’re in seclusion right now, elevating their understanding of concept laws to the Great Law level. They’re in Cedric’s office outside the Void Barrier, allowing them to be exposed to the rawest form of the Primitive Universe’s concept laws.
They want to shed the ’pseudo’ in their Immortal title, becoming a genuine one, one that’s acknowledged and accepted by the Primitive Universe, just like their father did before them.
Cedric’s children can follow in his footsteps because they inherited the same eyes as his. Meaning that they too could stare at the very structure of concept laws directly without facing any backlash. It’s the same cheat-like ability that’s, by now, exclusive to the Stormrider Bloodline.
And to help accelerate their progress, Cedric gave them access to the Virtual Universe of the Primitive Universe so they could be exposed to more people and integrate themselves there even deeper. This was how he did it in the past, and he assumed that it’d be the same for them, with only a few key differences.
As for his wives, they need more care and attention compared to his sons. After all, they didn’t have the same eyes as theirs. But even so, that’s no problem. Cedric will always find a way to help them. Money is never an issue for him.
Shifting his focus from his home to his clone, he discovered that it’s still doing its job as expected.
His plans for the Rising Sun Domain continued to unfold on schedule. He’s making large strides in terms of sector domain development.
All three of his clones have been running around helping with this progress. One was dealing with the paperwork at blistering speeds, and the other two were busy going from one place to the next to complete Cedric’s arrangements on time.
His bodyguards, Quinella and Wilfred, have created their clones. Their real bodies stuck close to him, either accompanying him in his seclusion or on his occasional walks.
As for their first clones, they accompanied the clone who deals with the paperwork. That’s mostly because it’s this clone that makes the public appearance and deals with the mundane stuff of the sector domain. It’s this clone that’s publicly recognized as the Sector Lord who calls himself ’Stormrider.’
Therefore, to keep up appearances, he must be accompanied by his trusted bodyguards.
As for the other two, they have more freedom to move on their own, wearing their own disguises. They can pose as nomads who are travelling the domain, looking for a place to settle down. But in truth, they are completing Cedric’s orders, laying the groundwork for his grand plans for this sector domain.
**
Days, months, and years passed by just like this. And before they knew it, it had been a decade since Cedric moved his home here.
In these ten years, Cedric’s work continued. His plans for the development of the Rising Sun Sector Domain unfolded as he expected it to. There were hardly any problems that stalled progress because of his preemptive pruning of the domain.
General Skylark and his army of Space Marines, as well as Enzo and his men from the Makers Guild, continued building the mainframe of the domain’s protection against their future enemies.
With the rich and generous resources provided for them, they spent their days in fulfillment, working hard for most days and coming home to peace and serenity.
Despite the repetitive nature of their jobs, none of them found it boring. In fact, most of them even wished that the following days, weeks, months, and even years would continue just like this.
How wonderful could that have been?
Alas, things hardly ever go according to one’s wishes.
Weng!!
The sharp screech of the alarm, one that has been silent ever since they came here, suddenly echoed through their camp. The people went still for a bit, clearly not expecting this to happen.
But this only happened for a split second before the Space Marines, as if possessed by something, moved in unison to respond to the alarm. Some of them even realized that their bodies were moving on their own.
This was the result of their conditioning. The training they had prior to being sent here remained instilled and slumbering within their instincts, and now, it was roused to wakefulness with this sudden alarm.
Within five minutes, they all gathered before the general’s office in an attentive formation, ready to respond to the general’s command in a heartbeat.
General Skylark showed up a few seconds after they arrived. His face was grim, making them think that things have definitely gotten serious.
"Men, our scouts reported that we have several ships of hostiles approaching this place."
"From the intel we gathered so far, we’re expecting Demons and The Horde."
"Our scouts learned that they planned on infiltrating this place and making a temporary base of operations here."
"Suit up, and be ready. Soon, it’ll be time for us to do our part and ensure that these foul creatures never see the light of tomorrow’s day. Is that clear!?"
"Sir, yes sir!"
"Alright, move!!" General Skylark barked, which sent his men moving in all directions.
Enzo, who watched this all happen, also had a grim look on his face. How unlucky. Just as things were starting to go well.
"General, if you require any assistance from us, please don’t hesitate to inform me. We would hate for those creatures to ruin the work we’ve done so far."
"I will. In the meantime, please secure your men. We can’t afford to lose any of you to these foul creatures."
In the general’s mind, he appreciated Enzo’s offer, but this fight was for them, Space Marines. Although he knew that the Makers Guild were no pushovers, they were far more useful making things, not killing these foul creatures.
Besides, this was his chance to finally prove his use to the Sector Lord.
The Sector Lord had been nothing but generous and kind to him and his men. All their needs and wants were covered since day one, and the Sector Lord never expected anything more than a decent job for them.
And while the general was extremely grateful for serving such a generous and kind lord like him, he couldn’t help but feel guilty that he and his men were freeloading from their lord’s fortune and generosity.
That’s why now that he had a chance to prove himself to him, he would not hesitate.
He will protect his lord’s domain, even at the cost of his own life, for that’s his purpose. He’s disposable, and so were his men. They were trained for this.
’Those foul creatures will not touch a single asteroid in my Lord’s domain, I swear it,’ the general fiercely thought as he summoned his colossal sword, marching at his own ship.
Despite having his office deep into the domain and distant from where the General and Enzo worked, Cedric still heard the alarms.
No, his sensory field didn’t pick it up. It just so happens that one of his clones was near their camp and heard it; that’s how he came to know.
He also heard what the general said. He could also see how the army began moving in unison to prepare for the defense through the eyes of his clone.
Though, despite knowing this, Cedric didn’t do anything.
He watched with a small smile on his face as the general marched into his own ship with blazing determination flaring around him.
Cedric recognized the hunger in the general’s eyes and his desire for acknowledgement. He could even tell what’s going on in the man’s mind.
It’s the thirst and hunger for recognition. Proof that they’re not some useless baggage that’s freeloading from his generosity.
In the general’s mind, this was their chance to prove their worth to him.
And honestly, that’s not so bad.
Who was he to stop a man from proving his own worth?
His clone was nearby anyway; it wouldn’t be too late to interfere when things go awry. So for now, he will just watch.
