CHAPTER 778: REQUESTING AID

--

Cedric’s connection with his sector domain has grown so profoundly deep that he could almost feel every single thing happening within it. Almost, since there are just too many to pay attention to.

But for the larger occurrences, like small and brief spatial movements, he could capture them clearly, especially when they were happening within the domain.

This perception extends up to the very edges of his sector domain, which also allows him to feel what occurs outside of it faintly, like the hair on his arms being tickled by the wind.

And it’s this very sensation that alerted him to the strange fluctuations happening near his territory.

Quinella and Wilfred were a bit puzzled when they saw his mood turning serious. And instead of making his way to his office to continue his usual work, he once again boarded the ship, personally taking control of it and flying towards somewhere.

Of course, as his bodyguards, they have to accompany him. Though it seems that their lord wasn’t in the mood to explain right now. So they could only just offer him their quiet company.

The ship moved fast. Within an hour, it stopped through Cedric’s deliberate control. Then, he disembarked and flew outside in person, with his bodyguards following suit.

They stood northeast of the territory, appearing at the very edge of it. There, Cedric just stood still with his eyes sharp as if he were glaring at something that he didn’t want to be there at all.

Quinella and Wilfred couldn’t see anything. There was no enemy nor any hostile element in sight. But then...

Swoosh!

"What the hell?" Wilfred quietly exclaimed, eyes turning sharp immediately. He and Quinella instantly drew out their weapons, prepared to face the incoming threat to their lord.

But the said threat didn’t appear. They only felt a fluctuation, and that’s it. Nothing happened afterwards, which greatly confused them.

Meanwhile, Cedric’s face turned really grim at this point.

’This can’t be happening...there’s no way,’ he muttered inwardly. Hoping, praying, that his initial guess wouldbe proven wrong.

However...

Fwoosh!

There it is, again. The spatial fluctuation swept through the area once more. Anybody who’s well versed in space laws would have a few guesses as to why this was happening.

The main thing being that something was causing these spatial fluctuations to happen. It’s either a treasure, the birth of a new star, or something else entirely.

The auspicious air that comes with the birth of a heavenly treasure was missing, so it couldn’t be the first one. The nebula, or catalyst, that’s needed for the birth of a new star or a world was nowhere to be seen, so it wasn’t the second either, so that leaves the third option.

And that’s something that Cedric really didn’t want to see.

"Lord...what’s going on?" Quinella asked.

It’s not like she’s completely ignorant. She had a few guesses herself, and so has Wilfred, but they didn’t want to step ahead of their lord.

"Damn. Isn’t this too much of a coincidence? What are the odds of this happening just as we’ve returned from the gala?" Cedric massaged his temples, feeling the headache already.

Their lord’s complaints came as a surprise to both of his bodyguards. This might’ve been the first time they ever heard their lord complain about something out loud.

Not once did Cedric complain about him being the target of the other race’s assassination, and he also didn’t complain when facing the mountains of paperwork that needed his attention. It gave them an impression that their lord could perpetually maintain his calm and composure whatever came his way.

Therefore, when they saw him reacting this way, they couldn’t help but feel like they’re about to face something really serious.

Unaware of what they feel, Cedric took out the card handed to him by the staff of the Human Council. This card indicated the private communication ID, which could only be used for matters concerning the Unstable Heavenly Domain.

He punched in the code using the ship’s system AI and established the connection. It passed through after his identity was verified, and it didn’t take long before someone answered on the other side.

"Hello, Lord Stormrider. My name is Summer, an agent of the Human Council. How can I help you today?"

"Hi, Summer. I discovered some fluctuations near the edge of my territory—the Rising Sun Sector Domain. I’ve investigated it in person and have confirmed that it’s neither the birth of a new treasure nor a star."

"I haven’t seen anything conclusive just yet. But I figured I better inform you as early as now, just in case. If you can, please send a team here, preferably someone who knows divination. I’m deeply concerned about what this means for my people and my territory."

"..."

"..."

"Apologies for the sudden silence. You had me surprised just now. But I understand and empathize with your concerns, Lord Stormrider."

"I’ve already created a ticket for this along with your preferences. Don’t worry, this will be a priority. We will send a team at the soonest date possible. Please keep your lines open for us to contact you at the soonest possible time."

"For now, please keep an eye on the area you mention. If you observe any further developments, please don’t hesitate to inform us right away," Summer implored.

Cedric could hear the commotion around her. What he told them might’ve stunned them for a bit before plunging them into a hectic frenzy. They probably weren’t expecting something this early. The gala just ended, after all.

"I’ll keep that in mind," he replied before terminating the connection.

He then faced his bodyguards and said, "Let’s go, back to the office. We’ve got a lot of work to do."

"Lord, is it really that? Will the doors of the Unstable Heavenly Domain appear here?" Wilfred couldn’t help but ask.

"Maybe," Cedric replied as he boarded the ship and took control of it once more. "All clues led to that conclusion. But there’s also a small chance that it could be something else entirely."

"This is just a general guess for now, and I have no choice but to involve the council because we truly need their help."

"And just in case that it’s truly that, then we’d need them more than ever. Rich as I am, my wealth can’t provide absolute protection to this domain with how huge this was about to become."

**

If Cedric were being completely honest, he truly didn’t want this to happen.

He held no desire to participate in the activities about the Unstable Heavenly Domain. He doesn’t need it, and he doesn’t want it, either.

More importantly, he doesn’t want it to appear anywhere near him or his family. In his eyes, this was just a can of worms he’d rather not have anything to do with.

He’d rather wrestle with the mountains of paperwork on his desk than concern himself with this.

Alas...

"Heavens, you’re surely fucking with me, huh?" Cedric groaned as he felt more headache incoming.

He was at the same spot as before, within the edge of his territory, watching the commotion from a distance.

A week earlier, there was nothing here aside from pulses of spatial fluctuation now and then, but now, there’s definitely something else here.

A swirling portal has appeared. It’s unstable so far and an outright suicide for anybody to enter it right away, but it’s most definitely there. Furthermore, the portal leaked a strange and foreign aura rich with raw concept laws, one that doesn’t belong to the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm.

All clues indicate that this place was truly becoming the doors leading to the Unstable Heavenly Domain.

Everyone else would’ve been so happy to see this. They might do everything in their power to secure this place, hide it from everybody else until the last minute, and ensure that they’re the first one to explore it once the passage has stabilized.

But not him, not Cedric.

If anything, he sees this as a brewing disaster for the peace and security he has built so far.

Ring!

His personal communication line rang, and he answered it. The call came from General Skylark, who said:

"Lord, the team sent by the Human Council is here."

"Open a passage directly for them to my location," he ordered, his tone booking no refusal.

"Right away, Lord." The general obeyed.

No sooner than five minutes, a portal materialized behind him where a ship passed through, one that’s carrying the insignia of the Human Council.

Cedric didn’t need to face them to see it. His perception caught every detail he needed to confirm their legitimacy.

He then sensed people disembarking this ship; the only ones who remained behind were the pilots to stabilize it.

"Greetings, Lord Stormrider. We are the team sent by the Human Council to inspect the area you reported. I am Travis, and I specialize in Divination Laws; I am here to answer your request for one."

"Hello, Travis. Look, in normal cases, I’d offer you a welcoming banquet, but I’m afraid I’m going to require your specialties right now."

Travis was stunned, but it all made sense when he too looked in the direction where Cedric was looking.

"Oh, dear," Travis muttered before taking out his tools immediately.
