Endless World: The Rise of Leonard Lawson
Chapter 171: Rescue Operation
CHAPTER 171: RESCUE OPERATION
Upon learning there were women who had been captured by these villains, Logan was left in a predicament.
Truth be told, this wasn’t their duty, but Logan recalled how the Crown Prince kept on rescuing women.
’Maybe the Crown Prince wanted to taste them as well. It’s their fortune to be graced by his highness anyway.’ Logan thought.
In this kind of dystopian city, to be able to survive with a low status was already a miracle.
"Keep them safe and inform the Ward Division about it. The Crown Prince might want to do something with them." Logan instructed.
At this moment, many of them held the misconception that the Crown Prince was lustful and enjoyed beauty.
"Understood," the Shadow obeyed the command and exited the perimeter.
Soon, a few Shadows remained in the stronghold to wait for the Ward Division to take over. In the meantime, Logan proceeded to lead the Shadows to another stronghold.
While the stronghold was being steadily taken over, elsewhere, Mirelle had commenced the rescue operation.
"Kill the berserk slave!" Mirelle ordered the Ward Division to attack.
These slaves might have been innocent prior to consuming the Wrathbane Extract, but now that they had blood on their hands. They have sinned and don’t deserve to live any longer.
After all, without a proper cure, these slaves would only crave for blood constantly and cause harm to more innocents.
She wanted people to have better lives, but ultimately, she wasn’t a saint who could control the situation.
In her mind, the death of a berserk slave could save multiple lives.
This kind of deal—she gladly accepts it.
As she conjured her own set of magic spells to attack a berserk slave from trying to target a little kid who was hiding under the rubble, she made sure to emphasize who they belonged to.
"The Crown Prince of Aldros has sent us to rescue you!" Mirelle declared thunderously.
"Anyone who is hiding or trapped in place should let us know. We will not let a single person die now that we have arrived!"
Although there was a lack of response, the Ward Division killed the berserk slave who let out a final roar and tempted some to peek their heads out.
Once they noticed the berserk slave was eliminated and the little kid was rescued, who began crying and hugging one of the guards, they realized it might actually be a rescue team.
Soon, a weakened man removed the cover that concealed their presence as he approached them.
"A-Are you really from the rescue team?" He asked with a hoarse voice.
His right arm was bleeding profusely, and his legs were trembling like crazy. It goes to show that he was incapable of rescuing the little kid, even if he wanted to do something.
Mirelle didn’t plan on judging him for hiding away despite the fact that a child was in danger. She was here to build Leonard’s prestige, and not some righteous saint who causes public distress.
"Yes, we’re from the rescue team operating under Crown Prince of Aldros, Leonard Lawson!" Mirelle responded.
THUD!
Instantly, the weakened man went on his knees and begged. "Please save my wife. She’s trapped in a building whose formation had failed, and monsters were swarming there."
Tears began to drop from the corner of his eyes. "I went out of the building to buy something for her, but the outbreak happened. I wanted to go there, but it’s infested with those berserk creatures, and my arm got injured at that time."
Truth be told, he had already given up on life. He simply held on and waited for the glimpse of hope that his wife might be alive.
If she were to be alive and he committed suicide, then wouldn’t he have sinned and failed her?
Therefore, he was going to wait until the outbreak was over and cleared up by the authorities before making his way to check.
If it was confirmed that she had died, then he would follow her along. He refused to let her be alone in the underworld.
Once the man finished his side of the story, many more victims began pleading with Mirelle.
Coincidentally, most of the victims here all had people they cared about in the place that the man pointed to.
’Seems like up ahead is the main source.’ Mirelle frowned deeply. For so many berserk creatures and people to gather around a specific building meant there was much delicious blood enticing them.
Moreover, the formation in the building failed, which essentially rendered those who were manaless and powerless to become mere food for them.
"I understand." Mirelle took a deep breath.
She soon gestured for Team 1 to bring the victims to the Royal Velastra Hotel, whereas Team 2 should advance forward to check the situation up ahead.
"Team 3 will continue to scout the surroundings to check if there are any trapped victims."
Her series of commands and insight made it easy for the Ward Division to comply.
Their impression of her ability to absorb and relay orders had changed.
The Ward Division was separated into four teams by Mirelle. Initially, they had yet to truly obey her willingly, but now, they were somewhat willing.
After all, her actions so far had been spot on and aligned with the Crown Prince’s intention.
"Yes, Commander!" Team 2 Leader accepted the order and promptly brought his men to advance.
Team 1 Leader didn’t waste any time and swiftly gathered up the victims to lead them to the hotel.
As for the Team 2 Leader, he continued to divide them into small groups. Some shall remain in the scene to search for unresponsive victims, and the remaining shall be led by Mirelle to march forward.
Once everything was in motion, Mirelle signaled for the final team to come over.
Team 4 Leader approached her respectfully and waited for the order.
"The Shadows should have taken over a few strongholds by now. You immediately lead team 4 and assist them." Mirelle whispered softly.
"Affirmative." Team 4 Leader nodded, his impression of her rising a bit further.
