Endless World: The Rise of Leonard Lawson
Chapter 70: What Was The Law?
CHAPTER 70: WHAT WAS THE LAW?
Darren sweated profusely as he stepped forward and responded to Wesley’s questioning. "Yes, Lord Wesley. The whore, Meagan, was sold to our Enchanted Oasis by his father at the cost of 2 gold coins."
"2 gold coins with such beautiful features, who is also a virgin? That’s quite the cheap bargain you made there, Manager Darren." Wesley commented.
A normal cost in such conditions was usually priced at around 5-10 gold coins.
After all, the virginity might be lost in value once the deed was done, but their continued services would yield a steady stream of funds for at least 2 years.
To summarize, a woman like Meagan could potentially help the Enchanted Oasis earn at least 500 gold coins throughout her years of service.
For Darren to be able to purchase such a woman for a measly 2 gold coins, calling it a cheap bargain was already an understatement.
While Darren’s face turned ghastly white, afraid of being reprimanded further, Wesley no longer pursued the matter.
"Let’s not talk about the purchasing price. Instead, I’m curious how she was able to flee in the first place." Wesley said.
The incident occurred precisely because Meagan was able to flee and stumble across Leonard. Had the Enchanted Oasis done their duties diligently, they would have prevented such a blunder, and there wouldn’t have been a scene made today.
"Apologies, Lord Wesley." Darren swiftly went down on his knees and pleaded, "The whore has a way with words and convinced us to let her take a clean shower to service Sir Abel. But who knew she had concealed a dagger and threatened the servant to open the window to let her jump out."
Once Darren finished the explanation, some onlookers in the crowd began to scan Meagan’s clothes. They realized her ripped clothes were done by her clumsiness when jumping out of the windows rather than being done by another person.
While some onlookers were enlightened, the same goes for the current involved parties.
’Damn, what a mess.’ Leonard frowned internally.
How could she be so clumsy and clever at the same time?
Even Wesley had to fake a cough at this ridiculous farce. Both sides were equally clumsy to cause such an outcome.
"Whoever was on guard and failed their duties should be punished accordingly," Wesley stated.
"Yes, Lord Wesley." Darren heeded the judgment without any objection. It was already a good thing that he wasn’t going to be punished for cheating on the pricing. Although such a tactic was very common in the industry, it definitely didn’t bring a good light when exposed in a public manner.
Just when people thought things were going to come to a close, Wesley’s next action caused them to change their minds.
"Anyway, the Enchanted Oasis definitely has to bear some responsibility, but it doesn’t warrant a death sentence. However, the whore, Meagan, was a different story." Almost as soon as he finished his words, Wesley gestured with his fingers, signaling an action.
Soon, multiple silhouettes of shadows emerged from out of nowhere as they rushed toward the restrained Meagan.
Alarmed, Mirelle’s eyes narrowed coldly at the sudden change. She lifted her fingers and was about to halt the enemies’ advances. Unfortunately, Wesley was far ahead of her as he tapped his walking cane softly on the ground.
Soon, an overwhelming amount of pressure was imposed upon Mirelle, forcing her to be in place. As she was stalled by Wesley, the enemies had already closed the distance on Meagan.
When Meagan saw the group of people rushing toward her, she didn’t bother to squirm around.
"It’s better to die than serve those ugly men." She muttered and closed her eyes, having accepted her inevitable fate. In a sense, she much preferred such an ending over being ravaged and violated daily by the scum merchants.
As the situation unfolded, Leonard had to remain still and stay his hand. He couldn’t interfere because he sensed Wesley’s gazes were locked onto him.
Wesley only restrained Mirelle and not him because he was the one being tested about whether he truly sought to punish Meagan or was just using an excuse to save her.
Having been scrutinized deeply, Leonard was helpless. He couldn’t even count on Jeffrey, who was supposedly the city guard.
A guard was meant to maintain order and ensure public safety, but Jeffrey’s eyes seemed to be blind. Despite their clear intent to take away another person’s life, he didn’t show any signs of stopping it.
What was the law?
The law was that the powerful get to decide them on the spot.
A few seconds later, Meagan was slain right before his eyes. A clean cut was made between her upper chest and the lower chest. Blood splattered a few meters away, and some of it landed on Leonard’s pants.
It was such an irony!
He caused a scene because of the perfume liquid content landing on his pants by Meagan, and it ended with her blood being the source to clean his pants.
"These people sure don’t know how to do the job cleanly." Wesley suddenly exhaled softly and shook his head.
"Mister Vincent, I will definitely compensate for the stain on your pants. Hopefully, you can be magnanimous and be lenient toward this old man." He teased jokingly.
"How could I possibly blame you, Lord Wesley?" In response, Leonard put on a friendly smile and lightly shook his legs to remove some of the residual blood. "You’ve done us a great favor already with this judgment. For attempting to escape after being purchased and nearly causing a rift among the Merchant Guild, she was fortunate to be killed by your order."
"Haha, I’m glad that Mr. Vincent is satisfied with my arbitrary." Wesley released the pressure on Mirelle and said, his eyes then trailing to Claudia.
"I was scared for a moment that you might want to have the whore for yourself to enjoy alongside that pretty slave. But I suppose I was overthinking a lot and that you were really fuming from the perfume staining your pants."
"I’m glad that we managed to clear things up to avoid a misunderstanding." Leonard chuckled heartily. He suppressed his internal anger. ’This sly old fox is too venomous.’
