CHAPTER 83: OVERDOSE

While Leonard was contemplating whether his condition could ever be resolved or not, Caroline was somewhat hesitant about whether to speak out or not.

Her subtle movement caught his attention. "If you have something to say, then just do it." He calmly said.

"It’s not like you haven’t been rude already. What’s there to be worried about now?"

"Well, who knows if you might suddenly retaliate using your true status? I’ve diagnosed a condition where you might want to keep it a secret. I fear for my life, you know." Caroline replied.

Although the tone was said in a joking manner, the intent behind it was no laughing matter.

As a Crown Prince, his health status was naturally held at the highest level of confidential matters. Yet that kind of confidentiality had been exposed to her, which inadvertently placed her in extreme danger.

Even though she had the backing of the Research and Development Association plus the Mage Association, she doubted that would be enough to stop Leoanrd from raising his killing desire.

It wasn’t uncommon for people to silence others for less, so Caroline obviously held such concerns in mind.

"You’re right about that," Leonard nodded and understood her concern.

"But there’s something called a magic contract here. As long as you sign it, ensuring you won’t ever divulge my condition to others, whether it was indirectly or directly, you will be safe."

Had it not been for the presence of a magic contract, Leonard wouldn’t have dared to reveal his condition to anyone.

Mirelle signed the magic contract shortly after his revelation, so he didn’t need to worry about her sudden betrayal. And now was the time for Caroline to do the same.

A few seconds later, he retrieved the magic contract, which had his signature already signed.

Caroline twitched her mouth slightly in disbelief.

"You really are one cautious person." She commented.

After giving a closer look at the contract to check if there weren’t any hidden clauses or tricks, she confirmed everything was in order. She then infused some mana into her fingertip as she wrote down her signature.

Though for some reason, Leonard had a feeling she was flexing her mana usage in front of him, almost as if taunting that she could use mana freely, unlike him.

’Should be just my imagination.’ Leonard tried to pacify himself.

Alas, Caroline made sure that he knew it was a taunt. She retracted her finger and dissipated the mana. "Phew, it’s so convenient to be able to use mana. I didn’t even need to worry about not having a pen around me to sign my signature."

Ignoring the clear taunt, Leonard activated the magic contract. Soon, a few glittering lights shone above their heads, signifying the contract had been acknowledged.

While the contract was successfully formed and ensured his secret was safe, outside the Velastra Research Facility, things weren’t going very smoothly.

Mirelle was in stealth mode as she hovered above the sky, her eyes scanning the surroundings.

’Just how many guards were scattered around the city to protect the Crown Prince?’ Mirelle’s brows knitted tightly as she sensed multiple dreadful auras approaching their location.

What was worse was that these dreadful auras were concealed very deeply.

Had it not been for the token that Leonard had given her in advance, she wouldn’t have even sensed their presence.

Speaking of the token, Mirelle lowered her gaze to inspect the token on her hand. The token was shaped in a shield form, with crimson coloring on the left and white coloring on the right.

And at the center of the shield was a miniature crown symbol.

The token would vibrate occasionally and glow in a dim light whenever Mirelle detected another presence rushing to her location.

Needless to say, that was a signal of the Crown Prince’s guards arriving and trying to establish contact with him. After all, Mirelle could tell that the token contained a large amount of mana residual, one that even she felt overwhelmed by.

As a sixth circle mage, the only way a mana residual could overwhelm her deeply had to be above the seventh circle.

’I really shouldn’t have accepted the tutoring job.’ She sighed softly. She felt like she had overdosed on drugs when holding onto the token itself, which symbolized a lot of power.

Just when she couldn’t imagine the situation could be any worse, Mirelle’s eyes suddenly narrowed when she detected a combination of hostility locked onto her.

Alerted, Mirelle hurriedly cast a barrier around her. She then triggered the isolated formation that she had placed earlier.

Swoosh!

In an instant, the isolated formation covered the sky that stretched over 30 meters. The ground beneath her remained unaware that an isolated formation was active.

After all, she had calculated everything, including the built-in defensive formation from the city of Velastra itself.

The altitude where she was floating ensured that she wouldn’t trigger any of it either.

Her goal wasn’t to confront the guards from Leonard, but to warn them of the false alarm. It was merely a shame that Mirelle had severely underestimated just how much protection was around Leonard.

In less than a few seconds, her isolated formation was breached, followed by multiple attacks from all sorts of directions coming at her.

Despite sensing the danger, all Mirelle saw were flickers of lights passing by her, which goes to show their agility was trained to a high level.

"Stop, I’m not your enemy!" Mirelle hurriedly shouted and revealed the token.

Unfortunately, her shout went to deaf ears, and her revelation of the token had actually backfired. Instead of stopping their attacks, these groups of people actually intensified their actions and wanted to decimate Mirelle into mincemeat.

’Oh, hell no! Damn the Crown Prince!’ Mirelle cursed silently and expanded her shield to deflect their attacks. She was truly deceived badly!

’What did he mean that they would stop attacking upon seeing the token? This is more like provoking a group of hyenas into a frenzy instead!’ She cried inwardly, feeling like a fool who trusted the swindler.
