Entangled in Midnight: Mrs Grant wants a Divorce
Chapter 12: Adrian Grant, You Bastard!
CHAPTER 12: CHAPTER 12: ADRIAN GRANT, YOU BASTARD!
Eleanor Winslow took a deep breath, not wanting to cause trouble for the law firm, and tried to maintain a dignified smile, "President Grant, you—"
Before she could finish the word "good," Adrian Grant had already averted his gaze, carrying an air of arrogance typical of a major client, offering no feedback, and walked away briskly with a group of executives.
Eleanor: "..."
Bastard!
-
Once the Grant Group’s people left, the project office exploded:
"Wow, wow, wow! Their CEO is so handsome!"
"He looks so young, I wonder if he’s married. Truly a catch in society!"
"Don’t even think about it, President Grant has someone."
Eleanor felt a skip in her heart, her hand paused on the computer, ears perked up to listen.
The speaker was a pretty girl who carried an LV bag to work, named Chloe Rhodes, whose family ran a small company and was well-informed.
Chloe Rhodes lifted her chin, with a bit of pride for having exclusive news, "President Grant’s significant other is also a rich heiress, childhood sweetheart, I think her name is Mia."
Oh, Mia Winslow.
So, in these rumors, Adrian Grant’s significant other had nothing to do with her, Mrs. Grant.
Eleanor lowered her gaze, unable to tell if she felt more relieved or self-deprecating.
"So what if he has someone? These rich guys aren’t always trustworthy," added another person, "Didn’t President Grant just notice Eleanor earlier? Our Eleanor’s so pretty!"
Eleanor couldn’t understand how the topic had shifted to her, a mere intern, and quickly waved her hand, "President Grant looks stern, not easy to approach, strict and boring, not my type."
"In your dreams, you’re being choosy now!" Chloe Rhodes rolled her eyes, "President Grant wouldn’t even look at you!"
Eleanor: "..."
Exactly, they’re about to divorce!
Eleanor discreetly removed the diamond ring from her ring finger and put it into her bag—no one noticed yet.
Half an hour later.
The law firm team met with the legal department in the conference room for an initial meeting.
The group had not even sat down when a tall, broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted man in a suit appeared.
"President Grant, why did you—" The legal director, seeing the sudden appearance of Adrian Grant, quickly stood to welcome him.
Charles Rhodes spoke on his behalf, "President Grant is here to listen in."
Eleanor was full of question marks.
Seriously, it’s just a preliminary meeting, not a report with important results. Why is Adrian Grant bothering to listen in? Is he that free?
Remembering the gossip about Adrian Grant her colleagues were discussing earlier, she now didn’t want to lay eyes on this jerk!
Adrian Grant sat at the head seat, listening to Albert Sawyer’s presentation of the plan, while casually flipping through the documents in front of him.
Suddenly, for some reason, his hand shook, and coffee accidentally spilled on the documents.
"President Grant?" The legal director looked nervously at Adrian Grant, assuming there was a problem with the plan.
"Get me a new copy." Adrian Grant leisurely wiped the coffee that splashed on his hand.
The legal director was just about to give him his own copy.
Adrian Grant raised his eyes, his sharp gaze locked onto the farthest corner, "Miss Winslow, can you give me your copy?"
Eleanor: "?"
The named Eleanor looked up, her emotions barely concealed, her face practically written with the words: Adrian Grant, is there something wrong with you?
She suspected Adrian Grant did it on purpose.
But she had no evidence.
As a humble subordinate, she couldn’t challenge the revered client openly!
"President Grant, what a memory you have; I just mentioned Winslow’s name this morning, and you remembered!" Albert Sawyer took the chance to flatter the major client, then turned and urged Eleanor, "Hurry and take it to President Grant!"
As a lowly intern from the subsidiary, Eleanor had no reason to defy the president of the major client.
Reluctantly, she stood up, quickly adjusted her emotions, and walked over, handing over her document with both hands, "Here you go!"
At the moment of handing over the document, the man’s hand brushed against hers.
Eleanor found it particularly scorching, the tingly sensation made her shudder.
She instinctively glanced at Adrian Grant, but the man was already looking down at the document, as if that touch just now was unintentional, he hadn’t noticed.
Eleanor turned back to her seat.
"Wait." Adrian Grant suddenly spoke.
Eleanor: "..."
What bad luck!
"Miss Winslow," he placed the document on the table, pointing at the bottom right corner of a page, "what does this mean?"
Eleanor turned her head and saw a vivid doodle of a rolling-eye figure, next to which was written: Mind your peace.
Eleanor: "......"
President Grant seldom surfs the internet, naturally unaware of these trendy online phrases.
Eleanor smiled genuinely and translated, "Peace, calmness."
Everyone: "...?"
What the heck?
The President who’s fluent in eight languages needs you to translate peace?
The legal director craned his neck trying to see what Eleanor had written on the document, but he couldn’t see, feeling very disappointed!
Everyone waited for President Grant to make a fuss.
Unexpectedly, Adrian Grant let it slide.
His gaze fell on Eleanor’s left ring finger—the wedding ring that belonged to them was gone.
Adrian Grant’s presence put Albert Sawyer and the legal department staff under a lot of pressure, but thankfully he didn’t speak up again, as if he was merely listening out of casual interest.
Eleanor returned to her seat, occasionally feeling a scorching and oppressive gaze falling on her, but when she looked up, Adrian Grant wasn’t even looking at her.
Adrian Grant was using his phone to search the meaning of ’Mind your peace.’
Oh, none of your business!
"Tch!" Adrian Grant chuckled in exasperation.
-
"Eleanor, do you and President Grant know each other?"
Back at the law team’s separate office, Chloe Rhodes asked the gossip everyone was interested in.
"Nope." Eleanor shook her head without hesitation.
Chloe Rhodes scrutinized her with suspicion, not convinced, "Then out of everyone in the conference room, why did President Grant specifically ask you for the document?"
"Probably because as an intern, I’m the least significant person here; even if I didn’t have the document, it wouldn’t affect the project’s progress or quality." Eleanor acted totally innocent, "If I had any connection with President Grant, the legal director would know me, wouldn’t he?"
Chloe Rhodes snorted satisfactorily, "Eleanor, you know ’Yaor’, right? It’s a high-end jewelry brand under Grant Group, and its endorsement is something even A-list actresses fight to their wits’ end for, and President Grant gave it to his girlfriend Mia Winslow as a gift. So, don’t even think about it!"
Eleanor looked indifferent, "Oh, is that so? President Grant treats his girlfriend really well."
