CHAPTER 14: CHAPTER 14: ZIA, I’M THE ONE SERVING YOU

Eleanor Winslow forced a smile: "Afraid you’ll lose control and sexually harass the other party."

Adrian Grant ignored Eleanor’s sarcasm and said, "Eleanor, you haven’t realized where the problem lies."

Eleanor’s toes were already pointed toward the door, but she stopped and turned back upon hearing this.

"What?"

Adrian Grant changed to a half-smiling expression, looked at Eleanor, and said nothing.

He picked up his coffee cup, was about to take a sip, found it empty, and looked at Eleanor, raising an eyebrow.

Eleanor understood what he meant and stood her ground, saying, "I’m not your secretary; I have no obligation to make coffee for you."

"Miss Winslow, you’re not my subordinate; I have no obligation to guide you in your work."

Eleanor: "..."

So frustrating!

Reason told Eleanor she should just turn around and leave immediately, ignoring Adrian Grant!

But her strong curiosity kept her immobile.

Is there a problem?

Where’s the problem?

Is it her issue or the document’s issue?

After struggling for two full minutes, Eleanor begrudgingly went to the pantry to make coffee.

Adrian Grant always drank black coffee, so Eleanor deliberately made a triple-sugar latte to bring back.

Adrian Grant glanced at the latte, said nothing, took a sip—

Overly sweet!

The bad taste was obvious, but fortunately, President Grant’s upbringing was good; he only furrowed his brow and didn’t spit it out on the spot.

"Sorry, President Grant, I haven’t served anyone before, I’m not good at these things," Eleanor smiled slyly, like a cunning fox who had succeeded.

Adrian Grant was too lazy to argue with her, merely chuckled ambiguously and said: "Yes, I’m the one serving you."

Eleanor’s smile froze: "..."

Why did she feel like the ’serving’ Adrian mentioned wasn’t so pure!

"Excuse me, President Grant—" Eleanor forced a smile, returning to the topic, "Where exactly is the problem?"

"Why haven’t you been eating at the cafeteria these past two days?" Adrian Grant suddenly questioned.

"Whether I eat at the cafeteria or not, what does it have to do with work?"

Eleanor’s heart skipped a beat:

Was Adrian Grant... concerned about her? Or interested in her?

"Miss Winslow, if outsiders think our Grant Group is exploiting the other party’s employees, it will affect the company’s stock price."

Eleanor lowered her eyes: "Oh, I’ll go have a meal later—So, President Grant, where is the problem?"

"Zia Winslow, the workplace isn’t a campus, your every action is tied to your identity." Adrian Grant clasped his hands, concise and to the point.

Eleanor shook off the annoyance in her heart, "I’m an employee of the law firm, I handed the law firm’s document to the other party, what’s the question——"

Issue?

There’s a problem.

Eleanor’s words stopped abruptly.

She’s an employee of the law firm, the results of her work are supposed to be directly submitted to the legal department of the other party for direct contact. And Adrian Grant is the boss of the client, the leader of the legal department, at her level she should in no way directly contact Adrian Grant.

"But this document was marked for me to deliver by your Legal Director." Eleanor subconsciously lowered her voice.

"If he told you to undress and lie on my bed, would you come?"

"Adrian Grant, you——!"

Adrian Grant raised an eyebrow.

Eleanor conceded.

Indeed, the Legal Director should have instructed his subordinate to deliver the document to Adrian Grant. Even if the team from the other party were to contact Adrian Grant, it should have been at the level of Lawyer Sawyer, or even a partner.

An appreciative and pleased look flashed in Adrian Grant’s eyes.

Eleanor is indeed clever; just a little guidance and she can figure everything out.

But unfortunately, she always thinks of people too well.

"Then why did Charles Rhodes deliberately let me in?" Eleanor asked, frustrated.

Adrian Grant amusingly retorted: "You tell me why he would deliberately do so, Mrs. Grant?"

Eleanor clenched her small fist and said viciously, "Charles Rhodes is mixing business with pleasure, two-faced, irresponsible, his bonus should be docked!"

Adrian Grant reflexively reached for the coffee, but pulled his hand back again.

"Alright."

Eleanor suspiciously looked at him, suddenly so agreeable?

Adrian Grant called Charles Rhodes in through the internal phone.

When Charles Rhodes came in, he was bewildered, wondering if the two of them were going to have him listen to their argument?

The boss’s first sentence was: "Charles, your bonus for this quarter is to be deducted."

Charles Rhodes: "???"

Charles looked at Eleanor: Wait, where did I anger you, madam?

Eleanor was satisfied: "President Grant, I’ll leave the document here, I’ll get back to work now."

Charles, who had his bonus cut, still had to smile as he saw Eleanor out.

After returning, Charles quietly removed the overly sweet latte prepared by Eleanor and replaced it with a cup of black coffee for Adrian Grant.

"End of year bonus doubled," Adrian Grant said while opening the document and reading it.

Charles Rhodes was startled, then his eyes lit up: "Thank you, boss!"

He did let the employee of the other party send the document to the CEO’s office, which was indeed against regulation.

But he let the CEO’s wife send the document to the CEO’s office, where was the problem?

There was no problem at all!

Moreover, it seemed President Grant was very satisfied!

Charles Rhodes was Adrian Grant’s confidant; they had known each other for years. Yet even so, he couldn’t understand Adrian Grant’s attitude toward Eleanor.

If one said Adrian Grant liked her, everyone knew he didn’t.

If said he didn’t like her, Eleanor lived better than any other prominent wife within the circle, holding the greatest privilege with Adrian Grant.

Just like earlier, President Grant docking his bonus in front of his wife was clearly to appease her!

-

After work, Eleanor returned to the apartment to continue sorting through her mother’s belongings.

Melody Nash had kept a diary during her lifetime, Eleanor stared at the beautiful handwriting, then suddenly sat straight, sensing something unusual.

[I look forward to our Zia growing up, she will definitely be the prettiest darling]

[Life is beautiful, I am more and more looking forward to the future]

Could someone who wanted to commit suicide, with a negative mentality, write such words full of hope for the future?

The year Melody Nash committed suicide, Eleanor had just turned ten, by then Melody’s parents had already passed away, Eugene Winslow quickly cremated Melody citing the horror of the corpse. When Eleanor rushed back from school, Melody had already become a pile of ashes.

As Eleanor grew older, the more she felt something was amiss, Eugene Winslow’s ’destroying the body to eliminate evidence’ was too hasty.

The last two diary entries from the two days before Melody’s death recorded:

[Eugene, meeting you was my luck, I owe you an apology.]

[Eugene, I’m sorry]

Her mother’s death was indeed inseparably linked to Eugene Winslow!

Eleanor took a deep breath.

She still couldn’t tear open relations with The Winslow Family.

She needs to find clues on Eugene Winslow about her mother’s death!
