Chapter 43: Marital Joint Property, Give It Back to My Sister-in-law!
CHAPTER 43: CHAPTER 43: MARITAL JOINT PROPERTY, GIVE IT BACK TO MY SISTER-IN-LAW!
Charles Rhodes waited downstairs.
He hadn’t expected to see only Adrian Grant come down alone.
Looking up, the windows of Eleanor Winslow’s apartment were already lit.
Adrian lit a cigarette and started smoking.
He didn’t have much of a smoking habit, only when he was in a bad mood.
Charles considered for a moment but decided to speak honestly, "President Grant, I found out that Mrs. Grant just went to the hospital’s burn unit. I asked the doctor, and they said her hand injury got wet."
The cigarette broke between Adrian’s fingers.
-
The apartment was silent.
Eleanor turned on the light, and even her silhouette seemed sad.
Blake Lockwood gave her a hug.
Eleanor gazed out the window, her voice a bit ethereal, "Blake, I’m fine, I just feel a bit tired."
"I understand." Blake patted her back soothingly.
"I just don’t understand why he’s looking for me? Clearly, he’s already left, why come back?" Eleanor said with a laugh.
Blake didn’t answer her, nor could he provide an answer.
Blake knew that Eleanor wasn’t looking for an answer.
No matter the answer, the important part of the whole situation was—Adrian left Eleanor to be with Mia Winslow.
Eleanor didn’t take any chances with her health and went to a public hospital for a follow-up examination the next morning.
She hadn’t even left the hospital when she received a call from Jeanette Grant.
"Eleanor, where are you? Why didn’t you tell me you left the hospital?" Typical of the siblings, speaking with the same style.
"Why should I tell you when I leave the hospital?" Eleanor actually didn’t want to have too much interaction with the Grant Family.
"Oh come on! My mom doesn’t believe me, but you do, so to thank you, I’m taking you shopping!" Jeanette said with enthusiasm.
Eleanor politely declined, saying she didn’t like shopping.
Jeanette pleaded, "Just this once! Please! Otherwise, I’ll feel guilty!"
The words "feel guilty" made it hard for Eleanor, who had been troubled for years, to refuse.
The meeting point was the biggest high-end shopping mall, conveniently near an art gallery managed by Blake Lockwood, so Eleanor had Blake go to work while she met Jeanette.
Eleanor: "..." Unable to refute.
Jeanette wore a Dior puff dress today, full of elegance and energy, waving at Eleanor from afar, obviously seen as a cash cow by all the store clerks.
"Are you feeling better? I hope I didn’t wear you out?" Jeanette observed Eleanor’s complexion.
"I’m fine." Eleanor showed a bit more tolerance to her naivety.
Jeanette quickly led Eleanor into the nearby luxury store, swiftly picking out a few new-season outfits for Eleanor.
"How about these?" Jeanette said, "No need to try them on, if you like them, we’ll just take them!"
The store clerk’s face lit up and brought out clothes in the corresponding sizes: "Mrs. Grant, these pieces are all your size, see if there’s any you don’t like."
With such a sweet-talker, it’s easier to decide which ones to exclude; the rest they’ll take all!
"Eleanor, didn’t you say you didn’t like shopping, how come all these salespeople know your size?" Jeanette asked.
The clerk smiled and said, "Mr. Grant usually instructs us to bring clothes to the house for Mrs. Grant to choose. Mrs. Grant is so beautiful, with a great figure, anything looks good on her!"
"Wow! My brother is really too good to you!" Jeanette exclaimed enviously, her gestures exaggerated.
Eleanor looked at her and asked with a bit of pressure, "Jeanette, you’re so generous today, did you bring enough money?"
Jeanette nervously mumbled, "Alright, today it’s our third brother who asked me to accompany you, he’s paying."
The smile on Eleanor’s face faded a little.
No wonder, she thought, Jeanette, such a penny-pincher, wouldn’t be so generous.
Just as Eleanor was about to speak, a few women walked into the store—
"Oh, isn’t this Eleanor?" Vivian Quinn walked in carrying a Lady Dior bag, linking arms with Mia Winslow, followed by a few women of the same age.
Eleanor was not familiar with them, but had seen them at some banquets.
"Eleanor, I went with Adrian to see you last night, why did you leave the hospital alone?" Mia Winslow asked with concern, "Are you feeling better?"
"Mia, you were with Adrian last night?" Vivian Quinn teased with an ambiguous smile, "You two really have a good relationship!"
The accompanying women chimed in.
Eleanor could see that Mia purposely wanted others to know about her close relationship with Adrian, otherwise she wouldn’t have specifically mentioned "last night" in such a suggestive manner!
"Eleanor, which dress do you want? I’ll get it for you." Mia seemed to be in a great mood, taking out a card from her wallet.
Eleanor’s gaze fell on the sapphire ring on Mia’s right index finger holding the wallet.
The sapphire appeared to be ten carats, very eye-catching.
Vivian Quinn noticed Eleanor’s gaze and immediately said loudly, "This is what Young Master Grant bought for Mia at the auction, and previously there were rumors from who knows where saying that Young Master Grant spent lavishly to buy jewels for you, Eleanor!"
Jeanette was dumbfounded ever since Vivian Quinn and Mia Winslow showed up.
She was nicely shopping with the lady in charge, hadn’t spent a penny yet, and suddenly a group of people came causing trouble?
"Hey, hey, hey!" Jeanette squeezed Mia out, "Today I’m paying, don’t cut in!"
"Miss Grant, you’re here too?" Mia hadn’t noticed Jeanette earlier, her face changed slightly.
"I’m taking Eleanor shopping!" Jeanette said with confusion, "Is that pigeon egg on your hand really from my third brother?"
Mia smiled and nodded, "Of course, with so many people here, could I lie to you?"
"This was bought by my brother during his marriage, so it’s marital property, no way! You have to return it to Eleanor!" Jeanette said indignantly.
Mia: "...?"
Eleanor: "......"
Mia’s smile stiffened a bit, how did she run into this person!
Because of Blake Lockwood, Vivian Quinn didn’t like Eleanor either, saying with innuendo, "Miss Grant, you understand our circle, today someone is your sister-in-law, tomorrow not necessarily, so you should know some people don’t need to be pleased."
"Ha?" Jeanette looked Vivian Quinn up and down with disdain, "We’re all living off others, spending money, the Quinn Family can’t even touch the Grant Family’s tail, what status do you have to educate me?"
Vivian Quinn was at a loss for words; she hadn’t encountered someone so foolish who would harm herself to hurt others!
"Wrap up those few pieces for me!" Jeanette opened her phone-bound credit card, displaying the QR code, sneering at Mia, "What age are we in, still using physical cards, flaunting for what! Even giving a dress, my third sister-in-law never bought clothes so stingily!"
Jeanette’s barrage left Eleanor dumbfounded.
