Chapter 709: Chapter 709: Fu Rongyin, This Joke is Not Funny at All
The phone’s ringtone continued incessantly, but Chi Yue stared unwaveringly at the man in the driver’s seat.
“Not answering the phone?” the man suddenly spoke.
Chi Yue pursed her lips, hung up the call, and sent a message to Nan Yuan.
After a few exchanges, Chi Yue put away her phone and looked again at the man in the driver’s seat, “Why are you here?”
“Why can’t I be here?” he countered.
Chi Yue took a deep breath, “Fu Rongyin, what on earth are you doing? You clearly showed up at the scene, yet you didn’t come forward. What are you really up to?”
The man glanced back at her, “Did you hope I would appear to complete the engagement ceremony?”
“Whether I hope so or not, it has no direct link to whether you show up. You…”
Chi Yue suddenly paused and squinted at him, “Are you listening to me?”
“Otherwise?”
“Fu Rongyin, this joke is not funny at all. If you were listening to me, you would have returned to Nancheng with me by now. Right now, you’re just using my name as a pretext to escape marriage.”
Chi Yue suddenly recalled that his past two engagements had been handled in a similar manner. He always had his reasons.
Fu Rongyin’s thin lips curled up slightly, “Where to? I’ll take you.”
Chi Yue slowly shifted her gaze forward, “I’ll go wherever you go.”
“Are you sure?”
“What, afraid I’ll cling to you?”
The man chuckled softly, “Just don’t run away.”
The car suddenly sped up, speeding along the spacious road, only to stop at the mountaintop.
Chi Yue’s heart had raced the whole way up, and at the moment the car stopped, her face went pale.
Fu Rongyin rested one hand on the steering wheel, took out a cigarette pack, tapped out a cigarette, placed it in his mouth, and was about to light it when Chi Yue reached out and halted his action.
Fu Rongyin’s phoenix-like eyes slightly lifted.
Chi Yue took the cigarette from his mouth, and without a word, lit and put it to her lips.
She had never touched a cigarette before, and because of exerting too much force, she inhaled sharply and choked, causing her to cough violently.
Yet her fingertips still held the cigarette, even as tears flowed out, she showed no intention of letting go.
A warm large palm covered her back, the man’s tone emotionless, “If you can’t smoke, why pretend?”
He reached out with his other hand, took the cigarette from her hand.
Not until her breathing steadied did his hand glide from her back to her waist, gently but firmly pulling her into his embrace.
Chi Yue frowned displeased, looking up to see Fu Rongyin taking a drag, the smoke billowing slowly from his mouth, and without a warning, he clasped the back of her head and kissed her.
The man’s breath, tainted with the scent of the cigarette, aggressively invaded her senses.
Chi Yue’s hand instinctively clutched his collar, tilting her head back slightly, her slender neck forming an elegant curve.
The man was somewhat out of control.
The hand at the back of her head tensed unconsciously, restrained yet resisting.
After a long while, he released her.
“Knowing I’m not engaging with her, can you leave now?”
Chi Yue’s mind was still foggy, “What?”
“Go back. It’s not safe here, and no one can protect you.”
Chi Yue’s hand, which had loosened, tightened his collar again, “You brought me here just to tell me this? You admit you are Fu Rongyin, right?”
The man only smiled and did not respond, “Will you go back on your own or shall I take you back? Choose for yourself.”
“If you take me back, will you return here?”
The man didn’t answer, took out a bottle of water and handed it to her, took one himself, unscrewed it, and took a sip, “Go back, and don’t come here again.”
Seeing she couldn’t pry any more words from his mouth, Chi Yue simply stopped talking.
She took a sip of water, put the bottle back, “Let’s go down the mountain, I want to return to Siheyuan.”
But Fu Rongyin looked toward the distance, “Just wait a bit longer, I’ll take you back.”
Chi Yue just assumed he wanted to avoid the Qi family’s people and did not urge him further.
The mountaintop was quite cool, and the cloudy sky had a beauty of its own.
Chi Yue watched and eventually fell asleep.
She didn’t know how long she slept, but when she woke up, she was already on a plane. Fu Rongyin’s figure was nowhere to be seen, only Fu Hanyan was there.
