Ex-Husband CEO, Stop Messing Around!
Chapter 320 - 313: How Could It Be You?
CHAPTER 320: CHAPTER 313: HOW COULD IT BE YOU?
Tears gushed out, and Wen Nuan couldn’t bother to wipe them away as she reached out to pull the door of a car parked by the roadside.
"Driver, please make a round around here, then come back."
Leng Yan was just there; she wanted to shake him off before going to find Tong Xi.
The car quickly drove off, Wen Nuan wiped her tears dry and looked around the interior, only to realize something was wrong.
This wasn’t a taxi at all; it was clearly a luxury private car.
Her heart sank. Her eyes had been blurred by tears; she just wanted to leave quickly and hadn’t looked carefully.
"I’m sorry, sir..." Wen Nuan bit her lip, wanting to apologize, but the car suddenly drove into a narrow alley. The alley was so narrow it could barely fit one car. Thankfully, the driver was skilled and soon drove out, entering a wide street, and stopped by the roadside.
The driver hadn’t said a word the whole time, leaving Wen Nuan with an uneasy feeling. She tried again to speak: "Sir, I’m sorry. I thought it was a taxi and didn’t see clearly..."
"Nuannuan." The driver suddenly turned around, and the gentle voice startled Wen Nuan: "Big brother, why is it you?"
"I just got back from the airport and was going home. I saw you quarreling with Yan and was about to come over to see what’s going on, and you just got in the car." Leng Ye explained softly, looking at the tear stains on Wen Nuan’s face: "Nuannuan, what happened?"
"Nothing." Wen Nuan forced a smile: "Thank you, big brother. You must be tired after just coming back; go home and rest."
Saying this, she reached for the car door. Leng Ye frowned and locked the car door, looking at Wen Nuan: "What’s really going on, tell me and I’ll help you."
Help? Wen Nuan smiled bitterly; who could possibly help them with such matters?
Seeing her still unwilling to speak, Leng Ye squinted his eyes and slowly said: "Nuannuan, I just heard you mention... Yan and Ji Wei’s child? Could it be that Leng Yan and Ji Wei are together?"
The scar was uncovered, and the pain spread relentlessly. She didn’t want anyone to know about it; after all, it wasn’t something to be proud of.
Wen Nuan momentarily lost focus and spoke bitterly: "Since big brother already heard, there’s nothing for me to hide."
She looked out the window, her dark eyes devoid of any light, "Ji Wei is having Leng Yan’s child."
Outside the window, cars passed by, neon lights flickered, most of the people on the street were lively young groups, but she felt utterly cold looking at them.
She was also young, yet it seemed she had aged. She hadn’t gone out happily with friends for a long time, and she had forgotten what that felt like. Marriage was like a cage that tied her down; she once found it sweet, but now she only wished to escape.
She knew the child was innocent, but if she pitied the child, who would pity her in return?
Leng Ye punched the steering wheel, "How could he do this!"
Wen Nuan smiled and didn’t want to speak.
"When did this happen?" Leng Ye suppressed his doubts and shock, calmed his thoughts, and asked: "Are they really together?"
"Big brother, do you remember my birthday? It was the night before my birthday that they were together." Wen Nuan leaned against the car seat, closed her eyes, and her voice was filled with pain.
Every time she thought about what she saw, her heart would tighten painfully, and now with the child, the pain intensified.
"That day?"
Leng Ye’s hands clenched into fists, then relaxed. He took a deep breath: "Nuannuan, judging by what you said, you’re not going back to the villa to stay, where do you want to go? I’ll take you there."
"To Tong Xi’s place, just stop where I got in before." Wen Nuan said, suddenly remembering something: "Does Leng Yan know this is your car?"
"He doesn’t." Leng Ye’s eyes glinted with a cold smile, yet his voice remained gentle: "I’m driving a friend’s new car, it doesn’t have a license plate yet."
"Please let me use the phone for a moment." Leng Yan’s car stopped at a phone booth.
He didn’t know who took Nuannuan away; it was a new car with no license plate. He chased it all the way, almost catching up until another car cut across, blocking his path, making him lose his target. Anxious and uneasy, he reached for his phone, only to remember that Li Qiu had thrown it into the fish tank.
A kidnapping case occurred in N City a few days ago, and the perpetrator was still at large, making all his nerves tremble with unease. He needed to ensure Nuannuan was safe first.
The car arrived at the residential area where Tong Xi lived. Wen Nuan stood downstairs, looking at the dark window of Tong Xi’s house and frowned.
Tong Xi was a night owl; she shouldn’t be asleep at this hour. Maybe she’s in the living room, she consoled herself as her phone suddenly rang with an unfamiliar number. After a moment’s hesitation, she answered it.
"Nuannuan, where are you, did the person in the car do anything to you?"
Leng Yan’s voice contained too much worry and urgency as it came through.
Wen Nuan was slightly stunned, took a deep breath, and steadied her tone: "I’m fine, please don’t call again."
Her finger pressed the intercom, waiting impatiently for Tong Xi to answer, ringing it over and over without a response.
Leng Yan’s calls kept coming, and she rejected them all.
She no longer wanted her heart to waver.
"Could it be that no one is home?"
Leng Ye hadn’t left, standing by Wen Nuan’s side.
"I’ll give her a call." Wen Nuan took out her phone, Tong Xi quickly answered, her voice muffled: "Hello."
"Xixi, where are you?" Wen Nuan asked, puzzled, as Tong Xi’s voice sounded like she’d been drinking.
"Nuannuan?" Recognizing Wen Nuan’s voice, Tong Xi finally sobered up a bit: "I’m at Uncle Weng’s house; it’s his birthday today. I drank some here, and Aunt Weng wouldn’t let me go home, so I’m staying here."
"Oh." Wen Nuan replied somewhat disappointedly, forcing a smile: "Xixi, it’s late; you should rest early."
"Nuannuan." Tong Xi’s heart skipped a beat as she glanced at the clock in the living room. She quickly walked to the balcony and asked urgently: "Why are you calling me at this time, where are you?"
"I..." Wen Nuan quickly said: "I’m at home, just bored and called you, go to sleep quickly."
She knew Tong Xi well; if she told the truth, Tong Xi would rush back immediately.
The night loomed darkly, boundlessly, as if it could swallow everything.
Standing in the yard of the community, Wen Nuan felt a sense of having nowhere to go. She couldn’t return to the Leng Family nor go to the Wen Family, and even Tong Xi’s wasn’t an option now.
"What now?" Leng Ye asked her, his gaze filled with concern, "It’s already very late."
"I want to..." Wen Nuan just opened her mouth when Leng Ye interrupted again, "How about this, I have a small apartment in the city; it’s small but livable. Why not stay there temporarily for a few days?"
