Chapter 29.

The moment Rosalind walked through the door, she started packing her bags.

When Christopher returned, his clothes were wrinkled, and he looked utterly exhausted.

Seeing that Rosalind was almost done packing, he stormed over, grabbed her hand, and pressed it down.“What are you doing?”

Rosalind shoved him away.“Don’t block my way.”

Christopher struggled to keep his temper in check. “You’re an adult, and yet you’re throwing ba /btantrum about leaving? Rosa, I’ve spoiled you too much all these years.”

Rosalind paused for a moment, her hands faltering.

Yes, he had spoiled her, but at the same time, he had gotten another woman pregnant.

    That was going too far.

“Sorry, Rosa,” Christopher said, lowering his head, apologizing. “I’m just really tired today, and my emotions got the best of me. Can’t you try to understand me?”

Rosalind continued packing, her voice cold.“You’re taking your lover to the hospital to save the baby. What exactly do you expect me to understand? Should I go to the hospital and take care of her postpartum needs, too?”

Christopher pinched the bridge of his nose and sat down heavily on the edge of the bed.“Can we stop arguing?”

“Of course we can. Divorce me, and I promise I won’t argue with you ever again.”

“Impossible.” Christopher’s eyes darkened instantly, his presence suddenly overwhelming. “Don’t even think about

    it.”

His attitude made Rosalind even more thankful for having Eugene as her backup.

She’d gotten everything done without anyone knowing.

It was just this cooling–off period that was so annoying. Otherwise, she would have already walked out the door

    by now.

Christopher spoke again, his voice tight.“My mom nearly cried herself sick today. I just couldn’t handle it. I’ve been negotiating with Latoya about the baby. I’m giving her money to keep the whole thing a secret from my parents, and she’s going to quietly terminate the pregnancy.”

Rosalind snorted.“So she really is pregnant? I thought you said you didn’t go all the way?”

“I don’t know what happened. We went to the hospital today for a blood test, and it turns out she really is

    pregnant.”

Rosalind spoke softly, “Watch out, you’re walking into a trap.”

Christopher shook his head. “No, I’ve already had people check her movements and who she’s been in contact with these past few days. There’s nothing to worry about.”

So, the child was definitely his.

Though they didn’t finish what they started, Latoya’s body was apparently strong enough to get pregnant anyway. Christopher looked up, licking his lips, and asked quietly, “Rosa, you’re so averse to having children, but I’m wondering… could we…”

“Don’t tell me you’re thinking about getting her away and leaving the child.”

Rosalind hit the nail on the head, and Christopher sighed helplessly. “It’s the best solution I can think of for now.”

Rosalindughed bitterly.“I don’t even want to raise my own child. You want me to raise someone else’s? What bare /byou thinking?”

“Well, it’s not really someone else’s child. It’s my flesh and blood. Rosa, today Latoya cried to me, saying she didn’t know we were married, and she doesn’t want to be a third wheel. So, she’s willing to have the baby and let you raise it, while she disappears and never returns to Houston.”

“Do you believe that?” Rosalind interrupted him sharply.“Forget it, why am I even arguing with you? This is between you and her. It has nothing to do with me.”

With that, she finished packing and dragged her suitcase downstairs.

Christopher quickly caught up and blocked her path.“Where are you going?”

    “San Francisco.”

    “I’ll

    go with you.”

i“/iLatoya’s pregnancy is unstable. Your parents probably ordered you to stay with her at the hospital, right?”

Christopher opened his mouth but didn’t deny it.
