CHAPTER 237: CHAPTER 237: DEAN GU DARES NOT ACCEPT
Huo Yanting furrowed his brows tightly, then nodded. "That’s very likely. Women are creatures of instinct. If someone manages to touch their hearts, they’ll follow that person. Although most women still prefer money, when true feelings come into play, money becomes useless in their eyes."
Gu Qianxi’s breathing suddenly grew heavier. He lowered his head and gloomily started drinking.
Huo Yanting glanced sideways at him. After a long pause, he suddenly chuckled. "Having trouble with feelings? Come on, talk to me about it!"
"Not saying a word!" Gu Qianxi turned his face away with a cold and aloof expression.
"Even if you don’t say anything, I already know!" Huo Yanting said in a calm tone, sipping his drink.
Gu Qianxi shot him a cold glare, the kind of look that warned him not to say anything even if he knew.
"I need to head back. I’m not interested in sitting here drinking in silence with you. Besides, I feel much better now!" Huo Yanting said, feeling bored. Gu Qianxi had urgently called him over, but now refused to open up and chat honestly, leaving him with a sense of being duped.
"Wait!" As soon as Gu Qianxi heard him mention being in a good mood, he stared at him jealously. "Weren’t you just dumped by Lin Banxia? How could you be in a good mood? I saw it with my own eyes—you like that woman."
Huo Yanting’s gaze carried a hint of self-mockery as he chuckled lightly. "She might have dumped me once, but I’ll never let her dump me a second time."
"What do you mean?" Gu Qianxi asked, his face filled with confused bewilderment.
"It’s simple. I’ve started chasing her again, and... she agreed!" In the depths of Huo Yanting’s somber eyes, a trace of pride could not be concealed.
Indeed, when that woman agreed to go out with him again, it felt as though the whole world had suddenly blossomed.
Gu Qianxi’s emotions stirred even more upon hearing this. "Am I supposed to congratulate you?"
"If you don’t want to, I won’t force you," Huo Yanting replied, giving him a disdainful look.
"It seems you have quite the knack for dealing with women. I really misjudged you. I always thought you were a block of wood when it comes to relationships, but now it looks like you’ve got quite the moves!" Gu Qianxi couldn’t help but see Huo Yanting in a different light, feeling frustrated at his own inadequacies.
"So, if you’re dealing with love problems now, come ask me for advice. I can offer unconditional help," Huo Yanting said with an air of seriousness.
Gu Qianxi originally didn’t want to confront the feelings he shouldn’t have had, but seeing Huo Yanting looking so eager to help, he picked up the cigarette on the table, lit it, and took a deep drag. "Keke said she likes me."
Huo Yanting wasn’t surprised at all. "I’ve seen that coming for a long time."
"What? Are you even my friend? When did you realize that?" Gu Qianxi burst out at the comment, glaring sharply at Huo Yanting as though he had betrayed him by not mentioning it earlier.
Huo Yanting casually replied, "Those in the thick of it are always oblivious while observers see everything. I don’t even know when exactly I figured it out, but I honestly think you two don’t seem like just an uncle and niece—more like lovers who’ve been together for ages."
"What kind of eyes do you have? You need to get them checked. I’ve always acted strictly as her guardian!" Gu Qianxi took a couple more heavy drags of his cigarette, as if inhaling the smoke into his lungs might relieve his unease.
"True, you’re a perfect guardian. You have to control everything about Tong Keke—her food, her living arrangements, even her emotions. I remember once when someone hit her, you were more anxious than anyone else. When she got sick, you felt it more deeply than anyone..."
"Wouldn’t you react that way if you had a daughter?" Gu Qianxi retorted unhappily, glaring at him.
