Chapter 323 - 315 Guoguo’s Foresight (1)
CHAPTER 323: CHAPTER 315 GUOGUO’S FORESIGHT (1)
When you like someone, even their constant nagging can be endearing. But when you dislike them, you wish you could just shut them up for saying even one more word.
Clearly, Luo Zikun felt this way about Miss Chai.
"Alright, it isn’t, then it isn’t." Luo Zikun waved her away, turned over, and showed his back to Miss Chai, settling in for an afternoon nap.
Miss Chai was dumbfounded. Was Luo Zikun really treating her so coldly? How was she supposed to conceive then?
"Husband?" Miss Chai attempted to be pleasant, her voice soft.
Luo Zikun, upon closing his eyes, couldn’t help but think of Chai Eying’s smooth, plump face and starry bright eyes. Hearing Miss Chai’s voice just irritated him, so he ignored her.
"Husband..." Miss Chai whined, inching closer to Luo Zikun.
"Will you knock it off?" Luo Zikun snapped, "Get out!"
Miss Chai felt so wronged that her eyes turned red, "We haven’t seen each other in three months, I just wanted to talk to you," she pouted.
"You’re pregnant, just get some more rest." With that, Luo Zikun pulled the brocade quilt over his head.
Miss Chai was so angry her face turned pale. Would he rather die of heat than pay attention to her?
Baby, baby! Without getting close to each other, where would this baby come from?
She regretted it to death now. Had she known, she wouldn’t have gone along with her family saying she was pregnant so early; it wouldn’t make her so anxious now.
But Luo Zikun had a dreadful temper; if she kept pressing him, he would certainly blow up.
Miss Chai gritted her teeth, had to get off the bed, and left the room.
Only when he heard her footsteps leaving did Luo Zikun uncover the quilt from his head.
He frowned in thought, Why hadn’t he noticed that Chai Eying was better looking than Miss Chai before?
The more he thought about it, the more he disliked seeing Miss Chai; he’d rather get close to a concubine.
Miss Chai was so anxious she felt her hair was about to fall out.
.
Now to Chai Eying and Li Xingmao.
After Luo Zikun was driven away, Li Xingmao helped Chai Eying into Uncle Tian’s house to rest.
Seeing her still shocked and disheveled, Li Xingmao was filled with guilt and heartache, "I should have come with you."
Li Xingmao helped Chai Eying sit in a chair and tidied her clothes and hair.
Chai Eying took a deep breath and forced a smile at him, "I usually go out like this, who knew..."
Remembering what just happened, she was too angry to speak.
"Was Luo Zikun ever like this to you before?" Li Xingmao’s eyes turned cold.
Chai Eying gazed at him hauntedly, "Husband, don’t you believe me?"
Li Xingmao held her in his arms, "E Ying, how could I not believe you? I’m saying if he ever was discourteous before, I’d settle both new and old scores with him!"
"No, he’s always despised me for being an orphan, always keeping his distance, afraid of getting entangled with me, why would he seek me out deliberately?" Chai Eying sneered, "I’m actually grateful to my second sister, if it weren’t for her, I would have married such a wicked man."
Li Xingmao tenderly caressed her face, let her hair down and gently smoothed it, "Alright, what’s past is past, let’s focus on the now."
Chai Eying nodded, softly responding, "Mm. I’m very well now, I have my husband,"
She squeezed Li Xingmao’s hand.
"Dad, Mom, comb, comb," Guoguo reached over with a small comb from behind Li Xingmao.
She lay in the basket, Li Xingmao’s shoulder blocking the view of her looking at Chai Eying. She struggled to climb up, her little hand stretching hard.
Chai Eying came to her senses and only then saw her.
"Guoguo? You... you came too?" Seeing the little wooden hammer in Guoguo’s other hand, recalling Luo Zikun clutching his head in agony, Chai Eying was surprised, "Guoguo, did you hit the bad man just now?"
"Hit, hit hit." Guoguo’s lips were tightly pressed, her face fierce yet adorable.
Chai Eying picked her out of the basket behind Li Xingmao, snuggling her small face, holding her tenderly as tears welled up in her eyes, "Guoguo is growing up, protecting Mommy."
"Dad, Mom, comb, comb," Guoguo handed the comb to Li Xingmao.
It was her small comb, only an inch long.
Li Xingmao chuckled, "When did you bring a comb out?" Such a clever little girl.
He took it and began combing Chai Eying’s hair.
"Our Guoguo is smart, surely guessed that Mommy needed to comb her hair, right?" Chai Eying smiled and kissed Guoguo’s cheek.
Guoguo replied earnestly, "Mm."
Chai Eying started to laugh.
Her husband is good, her stepdaughter is good, only her own past is not good. Chai Eying felt a pang of bitterness in her heart; she closed her eyes, and tears rolled down again.
Why did she have an arranged marriage as a child?
When her parents died, the child betrothal only became a joke and served no benefit.
From top to bottom, the Luo Family wished she would die sooner, but luckily heaven granted her a strange illness, giving them an excuse to call off the engagement.
She was grateful to heaven for letting her get that strange illness, fulfilling her wish to rid herself of that villain Luo Zikun.
Guoguo watched her, lifted her hand to touch her face, and wiped the tears off her face bit by bit, "Mother." The little one watched her intently, with a gaze that evoked affection.
Chai Eying took a deep breath, used her hair to wipe away the tears entirely, and when she looked up, there was a faint smile on her face again.
"Good Guoguo." She kissed Guoguo’s face and glanced at Li Xingmao behind her, "By the way, husband, why are you here? Why did you also bring Guoguo along?"
Li Xingmao wasn’t skilled at arranging women’s hair; even though he had recently been practicing with Chai Eying’s hair, he was still not very adept.
As he was struggling with Chai Eying’s hair, he replied to her question, "It was Guoguo. She kept crying to see you and couldn’t be pacified, cried fiercely, so I had to bring her to find you. Besides, I wasn’t at ease with you coming out alone, turns out it was timely that we came."
Thinking about the villain Luo Zikun just now, the anger in Li Xingmao’s heart flared up again, he couldn’t help but want to beat Luo Zikun again.
Chai Eying sat on the chair, while Guoguo stood leaning against her knee, her little toy wooden hammer waving in hand, with her baby-like voice saying, "Mother, hit, hit bad people."
The hammer hit the ground, thump thump thump thump resounded.
Guoguo’s wooden toy hammer was similar in size and shape to a real iron hammer, except that Guoguo’s hammer was made of wood, used by Jingjing for hammering his wood block toys.
Though made of wood, it wasn’t light in weight.
But Guoguo had great strength, able to lift the hammer to hit Luo Zikun’s head.
Thinking about her stepdaughter helping her vent her anger, Chai Eying hugged Guoguo to her embrace, smiling and saying, "Is Guoguo clairvoyant? Know that mother encountered a villain?"
Guoguo turned to look at Chai Eying and seriously "hmm"-ed a response.
Chai Eying burst into laughter.
She said to Li Xingmao with a smile, "I praised her for being clairvoyant, and she actually "hmm"-ed a response. Is she answering me?"
Li Xingmao raised his head and also smiled gently at his daughter.
He pondered secretly, are Guoguo and Chai Eying telepathic?
When they couldn’t find Chai Eying at home, Guoguo’s heartbroken crying looked as if she really foresaw Chai Eying was in danger.
Her hand kept pointing toward the courtyard gate, and when being carried to the courtyard gate, she pointed toward the direction of the village market.
Kept crying out, "Mother, mother, want mother."
It was extraordinarily strange that she actually knew the market was in that direction.
Chai Eying went out only with an old servant, and he was worried about her, so he took Guoguo on horseback to the market to find Chai Eying.
Asking along the way about the people driving mule carts, he quickly located this place.
Before he even entered the courtyard, he heard Chai Eying’s scream.
That voice was filled with panic and anger.
Fortunately, Guoguo insisted on finding Chai Eying, otherwise...
Li Xingmao’s expression turned serious, next time he encounters Luo Zikun, he will definitely teach him another lesson.
"Guoguo, do you know what being clairvoyant means? Just ’hmm hmm hmm’-ing like that?" Chai Eying chuckled, gently tapping Guoguo’s little nose.
Guoguo looked at Chai Eying very seriously, nodding, "Hmm."
Chai Eying laughed even more, "Alright, alright, you are a clairvoyant little fairy, and a little prodigy."
Usually, as long as Chai Eying laughed, even if she wasn’t smiling at Guoguo but smiling at someone else, Guoguo would follow suit and laugh.
But today, even though Chai Eying laughed till she shed tears, Guoguo did not laugh, instead, she lowered her head and started playing with the wooden hammer on the ground again.
Thump thump thump, thump thump thump thump—
Still yelling "hit hit hit."
Chai Eying simply thought the child had found something new and interesting again, didn’t tease her anymore, let her keep playing with hitting the ground.
The mud ground, trodden for years, hardened like a brick ground.
Guoguo hammered here and there, and surprisingly pounded out several small indents.
Li Xingmao, not skilled in craft, slowly finished arranging Chai Eying’s hair.
He apologized a bit, saying, "It’s not as good as Nanny Jiang’s craftsmanship, you’ll have to make do with it."
