Chapter 201: Last Man Standing [2]

He attacked with the destruction thunder on the weak points of the spells. Since he couldn’t win against all of them alone, he wouldn’t take all those attacks head-on, naturally. He did think about escaping their encirclement and going for the pole. But realistically, it wasn’t possible to do that. Escaping the encirclement of 80 Seekers and Jaden Redmar and going for the flag would be suicide.

Because even if he did by some miracle escape their encirclement, the moment his back was turned towards them, he wouldn’t be able to dodge their attacks, and his defensive runes wouldn’t be able to protect him from more than a few seconds at most, that again would not be enough to reach the flag pole and break it. So, he could only keep them busy; he also needed to buy time, not just Jaden, though he couldn’t put a finger on what Jaden was actually up to, even till now.

Just as he was thinking, one siege arrow was fired again from one of the siege machines, but the other did not fire for some reason. He didn’t pay it any mind. As he was too focused on dodging and deflecting the countless magic attacks. He frowned, the 80 attackers seemed to be making the encirclement smaller and smaller while raining down attacks on him harder, and harder as time passed.

Axel grunted and used more of his mana to generate more of that destructive thunder, as it destroyed the spells of the mages one after another. But then suddenly, a sense of danger warned him, as he looked upwards. That bastard was now attacking him from high up. He didn’t even notice when that guy had jumped so high in the sky.

For not having enough time, and more attacks converging on him, he wasn’t able to find an escape path and had to block the attack right there. Slashing upwards and activating a few of his temporary defense artifacts, a barrier formed around him to protect him from all magical attacks. But it didn’t stop the attacks from Jaden, nor did it hamper his own attack.

Their swords met again, causing another small shockwave, but as usual, Jaden was pushed back; the defensive barriers barely held on for a second against the constant barrage of magic attacks from 80 of the Seekers at once.

His body had to take in the brunt of countless attacks, his clothes were torn, his skin was scorched by various types of spells, and some places on his body received cuts as they started to bleed. Parts of his fine-toned divine physique were revealed. But the torn clothes started to rebuild themselves again.

His wounded sections also started to heal immediately as he smiled. But right at that moment, the other remaining siege arrow fired again, and just 1 second afterward, as the ginormous siege arrow was about to crash into the siege door and Thorian was about to deflect it, the arrow exploded in mid-air, and as if a chain reaction had been set off.

Booooooooom!

Boooom!

Booooooooooooooooom!

A wave of cacophonic explosions followed, which were much much more powerful than Axel’s initial clash with the fortifiers.

The remaining siege arrows, which had been fended off against already, and were left on both sides of the steel gate, also exploded simultaneously. The flying siege arrow, which exploded in mid-motion, caused the greatest damage; the fragments of it flew everywhere, and the sharpshooters on the top floor each got hit by the fragments of steel from the exploded arrow. They were totally caught off guard by it. And could not defend themselves.

Even Lucien himself was badly injured. But that did not stop him as he protected the other sharpshooters barely at the cost of constantly increasing his own injuries. Those who were most badly injured by it were perhaps Thorian, Lumina, and her small team, which was in charge of intercepting the siege arrows.

They were all eliminated in one shot. Even the Valkyrie seemed surprised by the sudden turn of events; she didn’t even sense how the siege arrows exploded until the very last moment, and as such, she was unable to warn anyone against the explosion. Of course, none of the steel fragments from the explosion could even touch her divine figure as her saint aura blocked it all, without too much effort.

The steel door of the fortress had been utterly decimated, and some of the explosion’s power seemed to have hit the flag pole inside the fortress, after the door was blown off. The pole seems to have been bent, likely being hit by some steel fragments. Thankfully, it’s not entirely broken yet; otherwise, Gold Section would have immediately lost.

Many of those who were on the 2nd floor of the fortress were also hit by the shock and were rendered immobile. Another siege arrow was fired again, but this time it did not explode and directly targeted Lucien himself. He was already badly injured and could not defend against it, but if his injuries increased, he would be out of combat for at least 3-4 minutes.

Just one move, just this one move, from the enemy attackers had eliminated almost everyone from the defending side, whose victory seemed all but assured till just a few seconds ago, now they have been offered a guarantee of defeat in return.

The first division of the defenders under the command of Heinz were also eliminated as the fragments of steel hit them in the back, they also had to endure the shockwave of the explosion. But one person, only one person, remained. The leader of the first division himself.

His body was bloody and battered, filled with cuts and bruises, and he was barely standing, pinning down his sword to the bridge. But he looked on his last leg, as if even a small breeze would blow him away. He looked back and saw all of his division members eliminated. The fortress door was utterly broken, the flag pole bent, just steps away from breaking. The sharpshooters were all rendered immobile. Those on the 2nd floor were injured.

He was standing between the enemy’s first division and the flag pole, the only obstacle in their path to victory. Standing as the last defense of the defending side, he was… the last man standing.
