Chapter 204: Calamity Warlord

Just when the fired Siege arrow exploded in mid-air, and other redirected siege arrows also exploded, Axel unintentionally turned his head backward as he saw in horror how the fortress steel gate was utterly destroyed from the overwhelming power of so many explosions at once. The sharpshooters, fortifiers, Thorian, Lumina, and Heinz’s first division, everyone was turned unconscious or eliminated.

Even the flag pole inside the fortress seemed to be on the verge of breaking, but it held on. Only Lucien likely remained on the top floor of the fortress, protecting the sharpshooters from the fragments of debris coming from the explosions.

Axel turned towards Jaden, looking at him in chilling hatred, he asked menacingly, “How?”

Jaden, who had traces of fear towards him, even moments before this, looked at him in pure disdain. He added with a mocking tone overflowing from his words, “Well, I don’t mind indulging you a bit, but not that it will change anything?”

Axel asked again, almost growling in fury, “JADEN, HOW??”

Jaden chuckled and said, “You’re not the only Runecaster in the academy, as much as you’re the most talented one, everyone with the runecaster aspect has their own unique pool of knowledge which they learned from their respective trial worlds.”

He continued, “Now, to get back to how the siege arrows exploded, how did we manage to do that? Your guess is correct, no sort of runic sorcery was used in them, at least not in the official method, I would say.”

“There is a special type of magnetic property infused substance, it would look like a garbage material to anyone. But it has a special property when it is converted into a certain type of mixture, with some other specific materials, through a specific method.”

“When that mixture is gathered in a certain radius of area in a certain amount, it will simply explode. From the very start, all the siege arrows had that in them, so I needed to continue and fire one after another until that certain amount accumulated, and like I said before, it only needs to be in a certain range in a minimum amount, and it will go kaboom, just like that. It’s something that is mainly accomplished through runic sorcery and alchemy.”

He smiled again towards Axel with open arms and said with his continuous mockery, “THIS IS NOT A GAME OF MERE POWER, AXEL NOMRAD.”

“It is a chess game infused with a bit of power; just the right knowledge and the right use of that knowledge can combat even the most overwhelming of the powers, and can turn the tables entirely.”

Another siege arrow fired at that moment, this time it targeted Lucien, and he was also rendered immobile for at least the next five minutes, more than enough time for Jaden’s first division members to break the flag pole with no one protecting it.

But then Jaden spoke again, returning his very own spoken words right at him with greater mockery, “I know you’re wasting time, Axel Nomrad, but that’s fine, not like it will change anything. After all, it’s already my win.”

Jaden signaled forward with his hand, and the attack of the 80 fortifiers continued, all of them sneering at Axel. Their gazes held only contempt, he who was sure just a few minutes ago, sure of his victory. He was now robbed of it, with just one ingenious plan of Jaden. Jaden didn’t even wait for his enemies’ trash talk, not waiting to see if he had anything to say about it.

Axel then immediately engaged with the enemies again, all of them continued to attack and press in on Axel, Jaden would also come and try to land an attack or two on him. The situation was becoming more pressing as each second ticked by. But he held on, fought on, no matter how low his mana reserves became. Injuring as many of them as possible with each of his counterattacks. But those weren’t yielding much of a result, since the injured ones could simply back off and gulp down potions or pills. But then…

[Hang on, I’m almost done.]

But the sudden reception of this telepathic message brought an almost imperceptible change in his demeanor, a subtle smile on his lips, but it vanished in that very moment as well.

Jaden was mostly letting his 80 fortifiers attack Axel, and waste his mana reserves, and then he would step in when Axel had no energy left, finally to finish him off. But of course, Axel Nomrad could still switch to his Berserker aspect in mid-battle. But there was something weird about him, he should have already activated his berserker aspect and fought with it, but why didn’t he? It almost seemed like he didn’t want to use that aspect, come to think of it.

Before the competition, he had gathered extensive information about all the most notable students of the academy from all the sections. When reading the gathered information about Axel Nomrad in specific, it was mentioned that he never once used his berserker aspect, till now. It was extremely suspicious. He shook his head, no it didn’t matter, it was already over for them. The flag pole of the defending side would be soon broken, so it doesn’t matter if he isn’t taken down by then. Winning the war mattered more than a single battle.

But looking at the scene in front of him, it doesn’t seem like Axel would last more than a minute, considering how he was barely holding on. However, as the saying goes –

Man proposes, and Heaven disposes.

Out of nowhere, a terrifyingly powerful presence appeared in their perception, they all were too busy focusing on defeating Axel and didn’t even realize that their first division had already been eliminated by the very last man who was standing in their path, and it was done so fast and swiftly, that the attackers first divisions leader did not even get the chance to notify their commander through the communication bands.

The unmistakable power of a 2nd phase Seeker spread around all of them, and the fight stopped as a chilling pin-drop silence descended. The sound of each of his powerful steps echoed in the enemy Seeker’s ears, signaling their impending doom and confirming their defeat.

Axel laughed aloud, looking at their pale faces. Jaden roared in unwillingness, looking at the figure, “Impossible. How can he radiate the power of a second phase?”

Axel continued to laugh as the bloody and terrible figure of Heinz came and stood right beside him. All the enemy Seekers looked at Heinz as if he were a demon who crawled out of hell. A true monster. His power now equivalent to that of a 2nd phase Seeker, made them all step back.

The remaining 20 fortifiers also came and joined in, as there were no more siege arrows to be fired. Jaden commanded them all telepathically.

[Only 10 minutes are left, we must hold them off till then, then at least it will be a draw.]

But those words did little to encourage the fortifiers.

Axel stopped laughing as he said to Jaden with a sneer, “You’re right, Jaden, this is not a game of mere power or knowledge. It’s a game of absolute power.”

“And allow me to introduce you to my, one and only dear friend, Heinz Gil, you may also call him The Calamity Warlord,” he stated with a chilling countenance, pointing towards his friend right beside him, as if declaring their irrefutable loss. The turned table was just turned back.

At this moment, Axel gulped down a potion and recovered some of his mana, he charged himself and his sword with even more power, and he also let out his bloodlust completely as his enemies shuddered, Heinz looked at his friend in amusement, he said to him in an almost tired voice, “If you’re done posing, can we get this over with?”

Axel sneered, “Says the guy who took his sweet time coming here.”

Heinz also sneered, “Says the guy who couldn’t even hold on against these weaklings?”

Axel chuckled and shook his head. Due to circumstances, he couldn’t even use the full power of the Runecaster aspect, let alone his secondary aspect. Otherwise, how could these clowns be a match for him?

Axel stated to his friend, “Shall we?”

Heinz also chuckled, and both of them banged their swords against each other in a brotherly gesture and dashed forward at the enemy.

Jaden could not help but curse in unwillingness and despair, “Fuck…”
