Chapter 211: Mutual Destruction

Lucien and Axel continued to fight their respective enemies; sounds of the clash of steel swords and magic reverberated everywhere, and Axel himself fought with deadly proficiency, eliminating one enemy Seeker after another with the most minimal movement possible. Learned from the countless fights with each of the rune phantoms, the best ways to move his body in a battle.

But that also brought another wave of problems; he was too used to fighting with a copy of himself, which in turn generated some minor mistakes from him in battle. Some of his moves would be performed in advance; his subconscious would respond to an expected move by his copy, much like muscle memory. Yet, that would be the wrong movement because he wasn’t fighting a copy of himself at the moment. But those small mistakes of his would be barely noticeable, even at all.

Of course, rarely would any of his opponents notice such small irregularities. Only those extremely good at combat, such as Lucien, Heinz or the valkyrie, might see it.

Lucien, on the other hand, took his sweet time, slowly hammering out the 30 sharpshooters. He also took his time beating the shit out of the enemy commander, making sure he didn’t fall. He could only sigh and look at the guy in lingering pity.

As a holder of the dragon bloodline, Lucien’s physical strength was off the charts, significantly surpassing Axel’s. Countless forms of magic shot towards Axel, but his blue lightning aligned towards the concept of destruction; his runic eyes passively helped him identify the weak points and the flow of the magic.

But soon, he was forced to break out of his focused battle state or his thoughts in general. Countless screams were heard from below at once, where the battle on the bridge was taking place between the first and 2nd divisions of both sections.

Axel arched his eyebrows; it was almost the scream of 200-300 Seekers at once. And the enemy Seekers who were fighting him and Lucien didn’t stop attacking or show any surprise at the sound. Suddenly, a thought popped into his head: Don’t tell me? This fucker.

Dodging multiple attacks continuously, then attacking them back in turn, he activated a shield and looked down from the edges of the wall. Unfortunately, his guess turned out to be true; the fortifiers of Section-C had backed off while their shock troops held off Heinz’s division. Using that opportunity, they cut off the bridge. In this case, the ash magic that almost covered this half of the bridge actually worked against them, and no one was able to notice it until it was too late, and the bridge was already cut.

Axel saw the final glimpse as two of their divisions and the enemy shock troops all falling down from the height of bridge screaming their lungs out in fear, all the creatures in the water almost gone crazy and was constantly trying to attack the falling Seekers, wanting to devour them whole, like a madly frenzied horde of monsters.

The sight was appalling, if not disturbing. Thankfully, the professors instantly teleported everyone out of that height before the creatures could actually harm anyone. Though it was likely the principal who teleported all 300 of the Seekers falling from the bridge at once, no one below his level could do such a mass teleportation.

Lucien asked him loudly, “Hey don’t tell me, they cut the damn bridge.”

Axel looked back towards Jaden with a visible frown, who was grinning. He asked,

“What’s the point of it?”

Jaden grinned and said, “At least 2 of your divisions were eliminated, while only one of mine was eliminated.”

Axel sighed, annoyance apparent in his tone, “Mutual destruction? huh, at least the gap in evaluation points will be shortened through this, is that it?”

Axel said to Lucien, “Let’s finish this already; the longer we take, the fewer points we will get.”

Lucien nodded, and without wasting any more time, instantly eliminated Jaden. And Axel himself went for the flag.

After that, it didn’t take too much time for them to take out all the enemies, and for Axel to break the flag pole. Lucien decided to take care of all the sharpshooter Seekers on the top floor after eliminating Jaden.

Their victory was announced as usual, but no cheers followed. No celebrations, nothing. The other two sections obviously did not want them to win and were afraid of facing the Gold Section; it could not be more obvious.

After all, the Gold Section had too high an advantage in terms of powerful individuals. But that was precisely what the academy was going for in truth, the Gold Section here in fact was portrayed as a force of one of the other powerful races. The overwhelming might they held, and the sheer weakness of humanity.

What was truly ironic here was that there were indeed 2 individuals here who were actually the holders of the 2 most powerful bloodlines on the continent. And they were not even using a fraction of those bloodline’s aspects’ powers, if they actually used it.

The other three sections, even if just one of them with all of their might, would receive a defeat so crushing that it would have broken their will and spirit for the rest of their lives, forever. But no one in the academy obviously knew that they were bloodline holders. Axel was mostly seen as the genius runecaster, the grandson of Damien Nomrad. So, people thought of him as the next “Damien Nomrad” of sorts. Even the principal viewed him like that after all.

As for Lucien, his overwhelming strength and battle prowess could not be questioned even if it does seem suspicious, for one, he is a royal, two, the Suncrest family are the descendants of the heroines, three, because of having the lineage of the summoned heroines, they often produce some exceptional individuals.

In actuality, the one who is viewed as the most suspicious by the noble heirs is, in fact, Heinz Gil. He was a complete commoner orphan. So, rarely, a few times in history, someone from a humble background has actually managed to gain such terrifying prowess, far above their peers.

As for the valkyrie, she was very much expected to be that strong as the future shield of humanity; that was the end of the conversation about her.

On the professor’s platform, the principal had a pleasant smile on his face, seeing this round of fighting to be finished this early. He was both shocked and pleased by Axel’s ingenious tactic, which allowed the prince and him to reach the top of the fortress by clinging to the fired siege arrows. What a brilliant idea! Pretty much all the professors also praised that idea extensively and gave a large amount of credit to Axel, who came up with it.

It was at this moment that the principal uttered, commanding attention from everyone,

“I think we need to make a little change for the final round. And let’s make sure Jaden Redmar receives enough credit, after all, he had almost defeated the Gold Section, just with his tactic alone.”

Next it was time for the 2 remaining sections A and B to fight it out and determine the winner. It would be held only 2 days later. Their first round, that is.
