Extraordinary Voyage
Chapter 161 - 161 Sunken Ship Bay
Aiven quickly realized where he was, and the reason was simple, because this place was simply too famous!
At the edge of his vision was a white dense fog with extremely low visibility, forming a foggy dome. From time to time, a turbulent vortex would form in some part of the dome, as if some colossal creature was constantly swimming in the mist.
The only area that remained calm and uneventful was perhaps the wide water below his feet, however, calmness did not equate to absolute safety.
Within just a few miles of this calm water without a hint of fog, more than twenty shipwrecks lay stranded. One end sank to the bottom while the other end stood up high on the water surface, black, decayed, and desolate like tombstones erected for the sunken ships, making one's hair stand on end.
Not far behind was a large-scale island, with coastline stretching into the depths of the white mist, its end unknown.
Ships docked at the island's port, including three-masted, two-masted, and single-masted ships, merchant ships, fishing boats, and even a certain country's warship.
However, despite their variety, all these ships had one feature in common... the black pirate flag fluttering in the wind!
Having undergone systematic training at the academy, Aiven easily recognized this place.
The world's largest Pirate City, and the only port that allowed only Pirates to dock — "Sunken Ship Bay."
In reality, located deep within the Mist Sea, "Sunken Ship Bay" had always been shrouded in a layer of mystery, with countless rumors circulating about it in the outside world.
The "True: Ghost Ship" wandering the Mist Sea carried crew members who had turned into the undead, pursuing the living and also pursuing blood; Sirens lured passing ships to fall into their trap with enchanting voices; unique twisted Sea Demons lurked at the borders but never stepped out of the Mist Sea...
If you listened to an old sailor's tales of the Mist Sea, it would take three days and three nights to finish.
Regardless of the truth of those stories, at least according to the mysterious knowledge Aiven obtained from the "Shadow Library," this sea area was also full of enigmas for Wizards.
In fact, it was rumored that beneath the icy depths of this sea lay an ancient entity that had survived from the previous Era, powerful, dangerous, and extremely chaotic. Numerous beloved of it lived in this sea area, all guarding that ancient entity.
Though the truth could not be verified, the danger was very real, and was deeply memorized in blood and tears by explorers.
Until a century ago, when humans explored the New Continent, assisted by the secular Church of "God of Black Wings" Sessi, Pirates established this city, "Sunken Ship Bay," deep within the Mist Sea, solely for Pirates.
Only then did signs of human activity truly emerge here.
And the mysterious and dangerous Mist Sea also became a barrier for "Sunken Ship Bay." No navy from any country dared to traverse the Mist Sea to attack this open Pirate City, a city of sin!
Because.
Without a guide from the "Sunken Ship Bay," no outsider had ever lived to reach here. Thus, this city became like a lighthouse and the most aspired place of freedom for Pirates around the world!
However, today, this safe haven for Pirates was not peaceful.
Boom—
Boom—
The cannon roared on the city walls, heavy iron cannonballs smashed down below, carving out swathes of bloody marsh.
Their enemies were not humans but various bizarre Demons continuously emerging from the water depths, densely packed Demons eagerly surged towards the walls, and even when a blank slate was carved out by the cannon fire, it would be instantaneously filled at the next moment.
"Roar..."
"Howl..."
"Hiss..."
Most of the Demons were unlike any marine creatures known in human knowledge, even more bizarre than Sea Monsters covered in tentacles and carapaces.
They seemed like the products of a playful child randomly kneading countless soft-bodied animals, deep-sea creatures, and even inorganic substances together, an existence fundamentally twisting natural laws.
Just one glance was a desecration of nature, a blemish on aesthetics!
With a reptilian appearance covered in sticky red eyes, a massive mouth in the middle of the head, layers of sharp teeth forming a bladed passageway extending towards a pitch-black belly emitting green smoke.
Vaguely humanoid, the head impaled with a decaying helm, hunching over, crawling on the ground with seven or eight limbs of varying lengths.
Red flesh wrapped in a dirty, tattered sail, resembling the resurrected Undead Sea Burial returning from the Netherworld.
The largest group consisted of marine creatures with partially mutated bodies: Fish Monsters with human limbs, a squid with a human face — too many to enumerate, hardly any two Demons looked the same.
However, among them were a few normally appearing Sea Demons, like Sirens, Fish People, Sea Serpents, Storm Giant Spirits, and even a juvenile Sea Dragon with fin-like leaves on its head playing the role of commander.
Aiven couldn't help but glance at that Sub-dragon Species, which appeared to have a very pure lineage, at least twice.
On the Old Continent, let alone Giant Dragons belonging to Mythical Creatures, even Sub-dragon Species with Giant Dragon bloodline had long disappeared.
"There are Sea Dragons in the Mist Sea?!"
The emerald-colored Sea Dragon had a noticeably more slender shape than a Giant Dragon, with wings more like fins perfect for life in the ocean, tightly folded against its back, barely noticeable without careful observation.
Aiven did not expect to find a Sub-dragon Species with such a pure bloodline in the Mist Sea of the New Continent, perhaps even more than one. Now, it was attacking the Pirate City with these bizarre monsters.
In fact, when Aiven had just arrived, the war between the Demons and Pirates had already reached a fever pitch.
"But where is Anita?"
The origin of these monsters, the reason for their siege, Aiven didn't care at all about the Pirates' survival; he only cared about his sister's whereabouts!
Yet at this time, all the Pirates were holed up in the city, not a single one remained on the Pirate Ships outside, nor was there any Warrior daring enough to sail out and face the aquatic Demons.
"Why has the Mist Sea riot occurred so early this year? Wasn't the sacrifice already sufficient?" Several Pirate Officers responsible for defense on the city walls obviously knew the inside story and had experienced such Demon sieges before, remaining calm even when under attack.
"The cannonfire can't hold them down; those Demon God's beloved are going to breach the walls!"
"Damn it, why is it at this time that none of the Pirate Kings are at Sunken Ship Port!"
Each Pirate King who sailed the seas held at least the level of a Tier 3 Great Knight or a similarly ranked Extraordinary.
Having just one of them here would suffice to deter that Sea Dragon prowling the perimeter for opportunities, although it was only a juvenile, it wasn't something any Tier 2 Official Knight could handle.
"Each Pirate Ship's crew is to be assembled as an enforcement team to maintain order now. Anyone who dares take a step back this time, I will exercise my right granted by the Pirate Code to enforce execution!"
With no Pirate Kings present, the city was temporarily managed by the Pirate Officer, Edward Teach. Bearing a thick black beard, the Great Pirate wielded the authority given by the Pirate Code. Under his command, a massive group of irregularly dressed and equally undisciplined individuals filled the city's defenses with scimitars and firearms. Occasionally conflicts broke out, accompanied by frequent cursing, but that was just the nature of Pirates — no one could change them.
Under the urging of the law enforcement team, they quickly swarmed the walls, chaotic and disordered, albeit together.
After a somewhat disorganized volley of firearms shots.
Close combat followed closely, as the firearms had little effect on these resilient freaks. A shot that would incapacitate a man was barely a scratch to them unless it hit a vital spot directly.
Some monsters were stabbed by the Pirates' cutlasses, while other Pirates were dragged down by pleading and were torn apart. For these, emotionless distorted oddities weren't just probing or feinting attacks.
Just a glance was a desecration of nature, a smear on aesthetics!
Things became more intense, and Aiven's feelings grew more urgent.
"Where are you? Where are you?"
