Extreme Cold Era: Shelter Don't Keep Waste
Chapter 200 - 198: An Unusual Phantom Thief
CHAPTER 200: CHAPTER 198: AN UNUSUAL PHANTOM THIEF
Outside the banquet hall, as the sound of commotion came from the venue, a short figure dressed in waiter’s clothes was hurriedly heading out of the manor.
He knew that due to his theft, the venue was certainly conducting a massive search for him, and soon the manor would be sealed off, after all, he had stolen something from the bloodthirsty Countess.
But for him, as a master thief, it didn’t make him feel nervous or pressured; rather, it made him feel excited.
As someone who prides himself on being a Robin Hood-like master thief robbing the rich to help the poor, isn’t it just right to punish these villainous nobles and uphold justice for the people?
That bloodthirsty Countess had brutally suppressed New Shaker City and killed so many people; what’s wrong with stealing two things from her? Treat it as her repaying the blood debt owed to the people of New Shaker City!
However, despite thinking this way, this self-proclaimed master thief still did not rush out directly.
He knew that this manor used for hosting banquets was likely already under lockdown, and if he simply ran out, even if he had planned and prepared an escape route in advance, it would still be difficult to get away.
So as he passed through a hidden corridor, he directly grabbed his clothes, and with a strong pull, removed the entire waiter outfit, revealing a gentleman’s suit underneath.
If someone saw this scene, it would seem somewhat unbelievable, for after all, it was cold winter now; an appropriate formal gentleman’s suit layered with waiter clothes would look bulky, even for the short-statured master thief.
While the waiter outfit he removed vanished within his hands in a few moves, like a magic trick.
He performed a simple check, ensuring there were no obvious flaws. This "master thief" then smeared something on his face, and with a snap, he attached a beard to himself, transforming his complexion from dark to fair, making it seem as if he had become another person.
He even wore a monocle, and his originally messy hair instantly became slick and shiny, resembling an upper-class gentleman, rather than the impression of a waiter he portrayed earlier.
Then, he pinched his cheekbones, heightening them, and stretched his back; after a cracking sound, his height suddenly increased considerably, making him appear tall and slender.
This completely distinguished him from the short waiter’s image.
But this could only help him evade search temporarily; it wouldn’t ensure his safe escape, as once they started checking the guest list, he would be easily identified.
His disguise skill allowed for a certain degree of alteration to his appearance, but wasn’t sophisticated enough to change his face completely.
Of course, if he had the right target to mimic, it wouldn’t be a problem either, but this time he had prepared hastily and couldn’t arrange things more thoroughly, just managing with what he had.
In this way, after changing into an outfit similar to the venue guests’, the master thief quickly walked to the manor entrance and shouted to the guards, "It’s bad! The Countess’s belongings have been stolen! The Governor has ordered, quickly seal off here!"
The guards heard his shout and hurriedly confirmed with him that the Countess had indeed lost something, and did not dare to delay, sounding the alarm and starting to lock down the manor.
The master thief took advantage of the chaos caused by the alarm to sneak to a corner of the wall that he had scoped out earlier. He then used his hands to support the walls at the corner and began climbing.
For the master thief, climbing walls unaided was not difficult.
So, within a few breaths, he climbed to the top of the wall, adjusted his position and stance, and leapt onto the branch of a large tree outside the wall.
This large tree was chosen by him before the action; though the sturdy part of the branch was quite some distance from the manor wall, it was still within his jumping range.
Thus, as long as he landed on the tree, it meant he could escape the manor.
However, just as he was celebrating his successful theft, preparing to leave something as a memento to let those he had tricked know it was the master thief behind this great feat, a flying dagger suddenly shot towards him from behind.
The master thief hurriedly dodged, the dagger nearly grazed his arm, barely missing being pinned to the tree.
He quickly looked back and saw that the female guard who first rushed up to pull her away during the theft, had already caught up, and another shimmering dagger in her hand was ready to be thrown.
The master thief dared not hesitate, flipping off the tree, beginning to sprint away.
While fleeing, he seemingly found the suit hindering his movement, and again, like earlier with the waiter attire, he removed the suit, vanishing it with his hands.
Now, he was wearing a black tight-fitting outfit that was highly conducive to movement, allowing the master thief to effortlessly leap onto balconies and rooftops beside the road.
The master thief hoped to use this to shake off the Assassin’s chase, but the enraged Assassin definitely had no intention of letting him escape. With a leap, she caught up on the rooftop, continuing her pursuit of the master thief.
The two commenced a rooftop chase, with the master thief desperately fleeing, while the Assassin persistently chased, trying to close the gap between them.
Whether due to the master thief’s agility or his better familiarity with the terrain compared to the Assassin, or perhaps both, there remained a distance between them that prevented the Assassin from capturing the master thief.
However, the distance between the two was continually closing with the chase, and the daggers thrown by the Assassin were gradually forcing the master thief in a direction.
The master thief perceived the Assassin’s intention but could only focus on frantic escape.
After all, he was just a master thief, although Extraordinary, skilled in stealing things, not fighting people, especially those who clearly intended to fight to the death.
So, the master thief could only pray not to be caught.
But things didn’t unfold as the master thief hoped; as the distance between the two narrowed, the Assassin finally found an opportunity to stab the master thief’s thigh with a dagger, causing him to stumble, then fall from the rooftop.
