26: Section 26: Are you scared?

A face suddenly appearing in front of you would startle anyone, even in broad daylight, let alone in such a late hour and a strange environment.

Xun Jiasheng was on the verge of freaking out.

He shrieked in fear and jumped away, crashing into a nearby wall.

Dust flew, and old pieces of the wall broke off under the impact of hitting Xun Jiasheng.

“So…” Xun Jiasheng wanted to yell, but the sight of Manager Song’s ghostly pallor made his voice die in his throat.

Manager Song paid no attention to Xun Jiasheng’s reaction and kept walking in the direction from which the woman’s singing was coming.

Xun Jiasheng dared to stop Shen Yue and Jin Xin because he knew they would be reasonable, yet he didn’t dare to stop the ghost-like Manager Song.

Instead, he called out for others, “Stop him!”

Neither Shen Yue nor Jin Xin made a move.

They followed Manager Song instead.

Watching the others walk away, Xun Jiasheng stomped his foot in frustration, but he had no choice but to follow them.

He might be shameless, but he absolutely wouldn’t dare to stay alone in such an incredibly strange place.

Manager Song was not walking quickly, but there was no hesitation in his steps.

In no time he arrived at a door.

There was a beam of light coming from the room mingled with the woman’s song.

At such a moment, a normal person would hesitate to enter, but Manager Song simply walked in.

The room was spacious, and the decorations suggested that it was a living room.

Strangely, there was a large, old, western-style fireplace against the opposite wall, but no fire was burning.

In a corner of the living room was a set of old, dark brown tables and chairs with tea sets and a bronze telephone on top.

However, everything was covered in a thick layer of dust as if they hadn’t been used for a long time.

A lotus-style wrought iron chandelier with inlaid glass was hung from the ceiling, casting a dim light.

Moths were circling ceaselessly around the light, their shadows dancing on the worn-out wooden floor.

A gramophone, seemingly a product of the last century, was placed against the wall.

The record was spinning evenly, emitting the woman’s song they had heard.

“What kind of place is this?” Hai Mingzhu saw the style and layout of the interior and couldn’t help but ask.

Shen Yue didn’t respond immediately but kept his eye on Manager Song’s movements.

Upon entering the room, Manager Song acted very familiar with the surroundings, walking straight towards the gramphone.

As he listened to the song playing, a faint smile spread across his lips.

This smile seemed quite eerie under such surroundings.

After the farewell tonight,

When will you return?

After finishing this cup,

Please enjoy some side dishes…

The tender song was not ceasing, but under these circumstances, it aroused a sense of alarm instead.

When Hai Mingzhu heard the lyrics about enjoying some side dishes, her stomach growled unexpectedly.

Seeing Shen Yue glance at her, she awkwardly explained, “I usually have a late-night snack.

It’s a conditioned response, don’t be surprised.”

Shen Yue thought to himself, you are a unique character to be thinking about eating at a time like this.

Seeing Manager Song still engrossed in the song, Shen Yue didn’t interrupt him and took the opportunity to examine his surroundings in the dim light.

“It turns out, not only the female ghost can sing, but the gramophone can sing too,” Jin Xin clearly was mocking Xun Jiasheng’s theory of a singing female ghost.

Xun Jiasheng saw the gramophone and stuttered, “Who knows…

Maybe the female ghost is making the phonograph play the song.

Why else would the phonograph ring?” As he said this, he seemed to convince himself.

“This ghost has quite a bit of power, even knows how to play this thing.

And the gramophone?

The furniture?

Did the ghost move them all up here?

And these are all solid wood!” Jin Xin’s sarcasm was even stronger.

Xun Jiasheng was about to retort but then scoffed dismissively, “Believe it or not!”

Hai Mingzhu’s gaze had been following Shen Yue, and her steps matched his.

Suddenly, she saw Shen Yue stop, almost crashing into him, and nervously asked, “What’s wrong?

Did you find something?”

Shen Yue picked up a hand-width photo frame from a table against the wall and stared at it silently.

Hai Mingzhu peeked over his shoulder and saw that the photo was of a woman in a red cheongsam.

The woman had a pair of phoenix eyes and gently sloping eyebrows, her lips a shocking red.

Dimples on her cheeks added to her charm.

The woman had a curvy figure, which was accentuated by the tight-fitting cheongsam.

Based on her makeup and appearance, she carried an old-world allure reminiscent of women in the Republic of China period.

“This ghost must be the owner of this room,” Xun Jiasheng’s voice came from behind Shen Yue.

He couldn’t resist coming over when he saw that the woman was wearing red, his face turned even paler, “Legend has it, red-clad female ghosts have more power …

or should I say, ghostly prowess!”

Jin Xin couldn’t stand it anymore, “Can you just stop talking about ghosts all the time?”

“Are you scared?” Xun Jiasheng felt that if he defended himself, his fear would lessen somewhat.

“Scared?” Jin Xin pointed to his nose, “In my life, I’ve never been afraid of anything!

You say there’s a ghost, summon it for me to see, I’ll catch it for you for free.”

Xun Jiasheng shivered, hurriedly interjected, “You can’t say things like that lightly.” He performed some polite gestures towards the photograph, muttering quietly, “He’s too young to understand, please don’t take it to heart, please don’t come out.”

Jin Xin couldn’t stand it anymore and grabbed Xun Jiasheng by his collar, “If you keep pretending to see ghosts, believe it or not, I’ll beat the soul out of you?”

Xun Jiasheng has always been shameless and timid, but surprisingly, he didn’t fear Jin Xin’s fist this time, only scoffed, “You’re scared too, aren’t you?

I’ve seen lots of people like you.”

Jin Xin laughed in fury, “How so?”

“People like you look brave, but in reality, they’re more timid than anyone else.

They’re more scared in situations like this, but they always try to cover their fear with rage.” Xun Jiasheng’s analysis seemed well put.

Hai Mingzhu was worried that Jin Xin might lose his temper and beat Xun Jiasheng badly, but she didn’t expect Jin Xin to freeze for a moment, then slowly loosen his grip on Xun Jiasheng’s collar.

He turned to Shen Yue, “Shen Yue, I feel a bit off.

I shouldn’t be easily provoked by this fool.

Something is really wrong here.”

After saying this, he took a deep breath and quickly calmed his emotions.

Finally, Shen Yue put down the photo frame and said with a heavy face, “You’re right, there’s a problem here.” He stepped forward to Xun Jiasheng and asked solemnly, “You said you sent Manager Song to personally test that there’s no thirteenth floor in the Giant Building?”

As he spoke, he glanced at Manager Song, who was still entranced by the song, ignoring everything happening around him.

“You finally noticed what’s wrong?” Xun Jiasheng sighed, sneering at Jin Xin, “Unlike some people who always think with their feet.”

Jin Xin smirked but finally managed to suppress his inner impulse, causing him to sober up somewhat.

Even though he appeared carefree and jovial, he had always been extremely disciplined.

Disciplined people are better at controlling their temper, and will not easily be led astray by others.

However, after coming here, he found his emotions fluctuating greatly.

After realizing this, he knew that the top priority was not to quarrel but to stabilize his own emotions.

Feeling that he had successfully diverted the attention, Xun Jiasheng said in a mysterious tone, “I think Manager Song might have really been bewitched by the ghost.”
