CHAPTER 353: CHAPTER 353: KILLING WITH PRAISE

A thousand-dollar red envelope?

Preston Pierce’s eyes were bulging. Was this little brat trying to rob him?

Leon Keane saw that Preston Pierce didn’t want to shell out money, so he deliberately said, "Grandpa, do you think a thousand bucks is too little for Timmy? Makes sense, my mom gives you a hundred thousand every year for living expenses. At your age, it’s probably hard to spend it all. You must have quite a stash saved up over the years, right? Timmy should just ask his great-grandfather for a ten-thousand-dollar red envelope. Then he can proudly tell relatives about it, and it’d be a great honor for you."

"Wow! Great-grandfather, you’re so rich!"

Timmy Monroe’s innocent eyes sparkled like little stars as he looked at Preston Pierce.

Preston Pierce was beside himself. A thousand bucks suddenly became ten thousand? Leon Keane might as well just rob him!

Absolutely heartless.

Did those people not realize that over the years, he’d almost completely subsidized Jackie’s expenses with the living allowance given by Leon’s mother?

Preston Pierce didn’t dare tell Leon Keane about this. If Leon found out, he’d definitely tell his mother to reduce the annual living allowance for him.

Grinding his teeth in his heart, Preston Pierce reached into his pocket and pulled out a stack of brand new ten-thousand-dollar red bills. These were meant to pay for Jackie’s hospital fees and were taken out of a safe yesterday by Leon’s mother’s bodyguard.

Today, Leon’s mother transferred three million to Jackie’s account.

Preston Pierce and Lucas Pierce were overjoyed. Preston Pierce quickly handled the hospital fee, but it turned out the money he brought wasn’t necessary, making it a lucky day for Timmy Monroe.

Preston Pierce gave the money to Timmy Monroe, his heart bleeding, almost to the point of tears.

No matter how much he spent on Lucas Pierce, it never pained his heart because that was his real grandson.

But if it were for anyone else, spending even a dollar hurt. When he gave Ivana Monroe a fifty-dollar red envelope, his face twisted, but now he’s given Timmy ten thousand in one go. It felt like Timmy wasn’t taking money, but his very life!

"Wow~ Great-grandfather, you’re so generous! Thank you! In the future, when Timmy visits your house, you’ll have lots of delicious snacks to serve him, right?"

Timmy Monroe handed the money to Ivana Monroe and innocently asked Preston Pierce.

Ivana held the money and saw Preston Pierce’s constipated expression, biting her lip, trying not to laugh.

"That’s right, your great-grandfather loves having kids over, his house is full of snacks, all imported too."

Leon Keane affectionately patted his son’s little head, feeling proud. Timmy’s sweet talk nearly infuriated the old man, yet he couldn’t lash out.

Leon Keane felt a rush of satisfaction; this moment was the highlight of his day.

"Really, Great-grandfather?" Timmy Monroe looked joyfully at Preston Pierce.

What could Preston Pierce say? Say no? Say Leon is lying?

Preston Pierce couldn’t say anything. That would make him seem stingy. After all, he’d already given the boy a ten thousand red envelope, just as Leon said. If Timmy were to tell Leon’s mother or others, it would indeed give Preston significant face.

Having spent a fortune for face, it couldn’t be lost over some snacks.

"Mm."

Preston Pierce replied and, fearing Leon and Timmy might ask for something else, quickly said, "It’s getting late. I need to go home now."

Preston Pierce was scared of the father and son as if they were some daunting foe, hurriedly leaving the room, even forgetting the Longjing tea Aunt Golding bought.

Pfft~

After Preston Pierce left, Ivana Monroe couldn’t hold back her laughter.

Leon Keane also laughed, giving Timmy a thumbs up. "Great job, dealing with Preston Pierce requires this tactic."

Preston was a stubborn old man. If you butted heads with him, he’d become completely shameless.

Timmy didn’t confront Preston but used flattery, and it worked wonders.

Aunt Golding looked at Timmy with amusement in her eyes. This little one was too clever, truly endearing.

Suddenly, Aunt Golding noticed Timmy’s usually pale face was red, as if pinched.

She was extremely concerned and asked, "Timmy, what’s happened to your face? Did someone pinch you?"

Timmy’s eyes flickered, "No, Grandma Golding, I’m just a bit hot."

Aunt Golding frowned, hot? Really just hot? Not pinched?

Leon Keane’s handsome face lost its smile, noticing the boy’s expression while his dark eyes deepened.

Mr. Jennings didn’t get the money; he was waiting outside the Kane Group on an empty stomach.

When all the employees had left, and Leon Keane still hadn’t shown up, he saw Derrick Stern and ran up to him.

Derrick Stern was holding Secretary Sullivan’s hand, happily finishing up their workday, planning to watch a movie. But now, Mr. Jennings suddenly blocked their path, and Derrick looked displeased.

Derrick Stern was someone who held grudges. When Kiki came to Kane Group looking for President Keane, she hurt his woman.

Derrick treated Mr. Jennings like air.

Darius Jennings, seeing Derrick’s expression, didn’t really want to deal with Derrick either. When Kylie came to the Kane Group, Derrick had injured her, causing her to be hospitalized.

If the Jennings Group hadn’t gone bankrupt, Darius would have slapped Derrick several times on sight.

"Derrick, I’m here to see Leon Keane. Please, could you help me?" Darius Jennings lowered his previously noble head, adopting a requesting attitude.

These days, he’d lowered his head enough not to mind one more time.

"See President Keane? President Keane won’t meet you. I advise you not to waste your time. Go home and stay there!" Derrick replied bluntly.

"I must see Leon Keane. There’s something I want to clear up face-to-face. Derrick, I’ve never asked you for anything before. Please, this time, help me."

He wouldn’t give up until he’d seen Leon and cleared things up.

"Clear up? You want to clear up the Jennings Group bankruptcy?" Derrick smirked.

Darius Jennings was stunned. From Derrick’s expression, could it be true what his friend said? That today’s bankruptcy was entirely orchestrated by Leon Keane?

Darius’s eyes reddened with emotion, "Derrick, you know, right? Tell me, why did Leon Keane go after the Jennings Group? My family and his are old friends. Why did he betray us and backstab the Jennings Group?"

Betrayal?

Derrick scoffed, Leon never seemed to be any partner or brother to Mr. Jennings. Loyalty wasn’t in question.

The Jennings and Kane families were old friends, but that only meant amongst the elders, not President Keane and Kiki.
