CHAPTER 401: CHAPTER 401: THE RIVER JUMPED LAST NIGHT

Sincere...intentions?

Ivana Monroe’s heart was pounding. Just now, Leon Keane had used those passionate eyes to stare at her lips. How could she not know what this guy’s "sincere intentions" were referring to?

Ivana glanced at Aunt Golding, who had her back turned, placing a cup on the table with the kettle. She reached out and held Leon Keane’s handsome face.

Leon Keane’s dark eyes lit up, and his handsome face leaned down naturally.

Ivana’s soft lips landed on his perfect chin, just an inch away from his thin lips. Just that inch really made Leon itch, wishing he could immediately bite her little lips and kiss them fiercely.

She left with just a light touch.

She dove into the blanket, face red and ears burning, pretending to rest.

"President Kane, would you like some water?" At this moment, Aunt Golding turned around and asked Leon Keane.

"I’ve had it, very sweet."

Leon Keane said with a straight face.

"Huh?" Aunt Golding was puzzled. Just now, she had only poured water for the young madam, not for President Kane. How had he drunk it?

Even plain water has a sweet taste?

Aunt Golding found it strange but didn’t ask more.

Ivana’s face was as red as a cooked lobster. She was really impressed with Leon Keane. How could he say such things, deliberately making Aunt Golding guess?

A video was posted online, showing a fifty-something-year-old lady standing by the canal late at night. After standing there for over half an hour, the lady leapt.

The rescue team arrived the next day, around six o’clock, searching in the canal... saying it was a rescue, but more like retrieving a body.

It had been a whole night; could anyone who jumped in still be alive?

No!

Father Tang was snoring loudly when suddenly a phone call came in. The ringtone woke him up. He reached over to the bedside table for his phone, still groggy: "Hello..."

"Early in the morning, who is it?"

Mother Tang tossed and turned almost all night and finally couldn’t hold on and fell asleep as dawn broke. She hadn’t slept for even an hour when she was woken by Father Tang’s phone ringing.

Mother Tang was a bit emotional.

"What? Officer..."

Father Tang suddenly sobered up when he heard it was the police calling.

Mother Tang was also mostly awake.

Why would the police call their home? Could it be... Is there news about Aunt? Have they found her?

Mother Tang clung to hope, waiting for Father Tang to end the call and bring her good news.

However, Father Tang’s expression became increasingly abnormal.

"Okay, I understand. I’ll come right away."

Father Tang hung up the phone.

Mother Tang was anxious, grabbing Father Tang’s arm, "Husband, what did the police say about my sister..."

Tears instantly fell from Father Tang’s eyes.

Mother Tang’s heart sank heavily.

Father Tang said, "The lady who jumped into the river last night, basically... isn’t alive anymore."

Hearing this, Mother Tang covered her mouth, tears flowing like a breached riverbank, streaming down in torrents. Gradually, she was overwhelmed with grief, sobbing uncontrollably.

Father Tang shed tears as he got up and dressed. The police had asked him to go to the scene.

Father Tang got dressed and walked towards the door. Mother Tang called out to him.

"Husband, wait for me. Let me get dressed. I want to go too."

Mother Tang’s eyes were bloodshot, tears uncontrollable, her voice choked with emotion.

"You shouldn’t go. The rescue team is still retrieving the body, not knowing when they will succeed. I’ll go alone to wait. If they retrieve it, I’ll call you to come over."

Father Tang saw Mother Tang’s pallor, her eyes filled with blood. It was as if she hadn’t slept the whole night.

How could she accompany him in such a state? She might not last long before fainting. Mother Tang had low blood pressure.

"I..."

"Alright, it’s decided. There’s no use if you go now. Look at your current state; if you fainted, we’d have to call an ambulance to take you to the hospital. Wouldn’t that just create more trouble?"

After finishing, Father Tang quickly walked out of the house.

Mother Tang, on the bed, hugged the quilt tightly and burst into tears.

Daisy Taylor woke up at seven every day to go to work. After waking up and washing, she heard crying from her mother’s room.

Daisy’s heart tightened, and she pushed the door open: "Mom, what happened? Why are you crying so early in the morning?"

On the bed, was only her mom.

Where was dad?

Dad came home very late last night. Where did he go so early in the morning?

Before Daisy could ask, Mother Tang cried, "Daisy... your aunt... she’s gone."

Daisy’s mind went blank, murmuring, "Aunt... is gone..."

Mother Tang nodded while crying: "Yes, she jumped in the canal last night. Your father received a call from the police half an hour ago. He’s on his way to the scene now."

Daisy’s legs began to weaken, tears falling like peas. The news came too fast, too unexpectedly.

Daisy suddenly thought of the call she made to Kiki Jennings last night, asking Kiki to go to the media, seek help, and find Aunt. But Kiki refused, firmly stating her aunt cherished life too much to commit suicide.

And now?

The outcome was the exact opposite.

"Notify Kylie... I have to notify Kylie..." Daisy was trembling with anger. She pulled her phone from her pocket and dialed Kiki’s number several times, only to call the wrong number each time.

She was beyond furious.

Daisy finally got through to Kiki’s number, but... no one answered.

Daisy called several times, but no one picked up, and she was so angry she almost smashed her phone.

"Is Kiki not answering her phone?" Mother Tang said furiously, "That girl is a beast. No, calling her a beast is elevating her. Beasts know to repay their mothers. She watched her own mother die and did nothing. She’s worse than a beast."

"Mom, I know where Kiki is. I’ll go find her."

"Good, go find her for me right now. I want to slap some sense into that ungrateful wretch for your aunt."

Daisy sent a message to the head nurse and took a leave of absence.

She drove to the internet cafe where she last saw Kiki.

It was early morning, and not many people were in the cafe.

Daisy looked around but couldn’t find anyone. She took out her phone and showed a picture of Kiki from her photo album to the net cafe attendant: "Hi, I’m looking for this girl who has been frequenting your internet cafe lately. Do you know where she is? I’m her relative, and there’s an emergency at home. I urgently need to find her."

The attendant glanced at it: "Isn’t this the chick our boss recently hooked up with? She’s been staying at the net cafe for a few nights and went home with our boss last night."

Daisy was shocked, not by Kiki staying at the internet cafe for several nights, but by her casually going home with a man.

"Sir, please, can you tell me... your boss’s address?"

The attendant saw Daisy’s tear-filled eyes, her face anxious. Unless it’s a family crisis, one wouldn’t usually have such an expression.

He immediately gave the detailed address to Daisy.
