Fierce Daddy: His Million-Dollar Sweetheart
Chapter 572: It Was Your Mother, Wasn’t It?
CHAPTER 572: CHAPTER 572: IT WAS YOUR MOTHER, WASN’T IT?
"Grandson, have you gone to see Ivana?"
The old lady remembered that when she was anesthetized, the doctor seemed to say that Ivana was the one who signed the consent form. She felt guilty. She and Leon’s mother had treated Ivana like that, yet at the hospital, it was Ivana who signed her surgical consent form.
Where was Leon’s mother at that moment?
She was already taken to the hospital by ambulance, and yet Leon’s mother did not follow by car from the old house.
It’s often during significant events that people find out who truly cares about them.
Now, the old lady clearly understood that Leon’s mother was indifferent to her survival, but Ivana, this "vicious" woman, cared about whether she lived or died.
"Ivana told me that Grandma was undergoing surgery in the emergency room and asked me to accompany you. I’ll go see her in a while."
"She asked you to come to accompany me first?"
The old lady was filled with tears, with mixed emotions in her heart. Leon’s mother had portrayed Ivana as very malicious, saying she was a seductress who snatched Leon away, took Ian, and even deliberately caused the Kane Group’s financial chain to break.
But if Ivana were truly as Leon’s mother described, how could she, at such a time, ask Leon to come to accompany her first? Ivana clearly understood the elderly well. As for the Kane Group’s financial chain break, the old lady suddenly recalled what Ivana had said.
"Yes, Grandma," Leon replied.
The old lady suddenly clutched Leon tightly, her voice trembling as she asked, "Grandson, be honest with me. Was it your mother who broke the Kane Group’s financial chain? Or was it Ivana?"
The answer had to come from Leon’s mouth because one was Leon’s mother, and the other was his wife. The old lady believed Leon would not lie.
Leon frowned, looking at the anxious old lady seeking answers. He did not want to tell her such a cruel truth.
"Grandma, don’t think too much. It has nothing to do with Mother or Ivana. I’m the one managing the company, and the financial chain break is solely my responsibility."
He took the blame upon himself, not to side with his mother, but to spare the elderly lady from any more shock and hurt.
"Grandma, you don’t need to worry. Trust your grandson to solve the problem at hand. Your grandson is a business prodigy in Ravenswood, and this issue is nothing in front of him."
Leon comforted the old lady.
"It’s your mother, isn’t it?"
The old lady stubbornly asked.
"Grandma... it’s not... please don’t think so much, okay? You’ve just had surgery and need to focus on recovering. Ivana is also pregnant with a little one, and he (or she) is waiting to be born to call you great-grandma. You still have to give a big red envelope to the little one."
"I understand now. It has to be your mother."
Seeing that Leon did not want to say it, the old lady made a judgment. If it had been Ivana, with Leon’s character, even if he didn’t tell her, he wouldn’t have mentioned Ivana being pregnant because, to Leon, this would feel like a betrayal. But the softness in his eyes when he talked about Ivana and the child made it clear that the financial crisis at the Kane Group had nothing to do with Ivana.
"Grandma, don’t overthink it."
The old lady understood Leon, just as Leon understood his grandmother.
The old lady’s personality was always stubborn.
"I’m okay now, grandson. Go accompany Ivana. There’s medical staff here taking care of me. I’m fine. Ivana is pregnant; you need to take good care of her."
"Okay, Grandma, I’ll go see her first and come back to see you later."
"Go ahead! Don’t worry about me."
Leon walked out of the ward and returned to the place where he had met Ivana earlier, but she was no longer there.
His heart sank as he quickly grabbed a nurse, "Where is the pregnant woman who was just sitting here?"
The young nurse, looking at Leon’s extraordinarily handsome face, blushed instantly, "I... I’m not sure. I was just busy elsewhere and just came over."
Leon released the nurse and took out his phone from his pocket, dialing Ivana’s number.
In the ward, Ivana’s phone rang. Just as she was about to answer it, the battery was running low and before she could pick up, it turned off automatically.
This...
Ivana didn’t know what to say.
This is a hospital, Leon just needs to ask a doctor to look up her name to find the ward she’s in.
"How noisy! Can’t you switch your phone to silent mode? There’s not just one pregnant woman here, can you consider others?"
The pregnant woman on the left complained.
Ivana ignored her and didn’t want to explain that her phone was out of battery.
"Doesn’t your phone ring too? How come you haven’t switched it to silent mode? Someone who never considers others sure has a mouth to talk about others."
The pregnant woman on the right already disliked the one on the left and couldn’t help but speak up for Ivana when she saw the left one bullying her.
The left pregnant woman’s face reddened, glaring across Ivana at the right one, "She didn’t say anything, why are you butting in?"
Ivana frowned and suddenly said, "Do you want me to say something to insult you?"
Originally, she didn’t want to get into a conflict with the left pregnant woman, but this woman was pushing it. If the right pregnant woman hadn’t said anything, she wouldn’t have realized that the left one’s phone was also ringing.
Ivana was baffled. How does a person like that have the nerve to criticize her?
At least she had just entered the ward, and her phone rang for a few seconds before turning off automatically. She wasn’t intentionally disturbing anyone.
The ward door suddenly opened, and a young man came in carrying chicken soup and fruit.
The woman on the left burst into tears.
The man was startled, "Sue, what’s wrong? What happened?"
Sue pointed at Ivana and the woman on the right, "Honey, those two teamed up to bully me, wooo... wooo..."
The woman cried loudly, and Ivana, being the closest to Sue, frowned at the noise.
"Are you two sick? Ganging up on my wife?"
The man, without discerning right from wrong, stepped in to defend his wife first.
"Hey, it’s your wife who’s sick, she’s the one picking fights all the time," the woman on the right retorted.
"You’re the one who’s sick. My wife has nothing better to do than pick a fight with you two?"
"Precisely! She has nothing better to do, and she’s got a sharp tongue. Your wife mustn’t get along with family or friends regularly, right?"
"Who... who says that?"
The man stammered, revealing his guilt.
"So you understand deep down, don’t you?"
The woman on the right noticed the man’s discomfort and said with a smile.
"I have no idea what you’re talking about," the man denied, and seeing Ivana remain silent, appearing easier to bully, he pointed at her and said, "I’m warning you, don’t bully my wife again, or else I’ll... I’ll hit you."
Sue originally thought her husband was useless when he couldn’t argue with the woman on the right, but when she saw him stand up to Ivana with overwhelming momentum, her spirits lifted, and she happily told the man, "And that woman, if she offends me again, you should beat her too. Our family has money, so we’re not afraid of hurting anyone."
