CHAPTER 597: CHAPTER 597: SPITTING BLOOD FROM RAGE

"Dad~"

Tears flowed from Mrs. Kane’s eyes, and she felt a bit of regret. If she had returned home earlier, perhaps this would not have happened to Old Man Price.

Mrs. Kane arrived at the hospital she saw on TV and saw the cold corpse of Old Man Price.

The old man did not pass away peacefully. His gray face seemed to show an expression of pain, reminding people of what he went through before his death. Mrs. Kane cried loudly, calling out "Dad."

Mrs. Kane was a ruthless person. Old Man Price wasn’t kind to her and, perhaps because of their blood relationship, she was supposed to hate him, considering how much money Lucas Pierce had swindled from her. Yet, seeing Old Man Price gone, she still felt sad and wished he could come back to life.

After transporting Old Man Price’s body back, she went to the police station. Old Man Price’s greatest concern in life was Lucas Pierce, and now that he was gone, she, as the little aunt, surely had to take Lucas back.

"Aunt, why are you only arriving now?"

Lucas didn’t yet know about Old Man Price’s passing. Seeing Mrs. Kane arrive so late, he felt resentful. He had slept on a hard bed last night, and his whole body ached. He had never suffered like this before.

"Jackie, your grandpa has passed away."

Mrs. Kane said with reddened eyes.

"What? Grandpa passed away? Aunt, stop joking. Grandpa was happy living here with me. How could he have left?" Lucas didn’t understand Mrs. Kane’s meaning, thinking she was tricking him, assuming Old Man Price had just left home.

"Aunt, did you bring the money? Let’s go pay the tax now." Lucas said, glaring at the police officer who brought him in: "These damn low-lives think I can’t afford to pay the tax?"

"Insulting law enforcement, your penalty will be increased."

"Tch, what a joke!"

Without saying a word, the officer grabbed Lucas by the collar to drag him inside.

"Let go of me, let go of me!"

Lucas started to struggle violently: "Aunt, help me!"

Mrs. Kane clung to the officer’s arm: "What are you doing? Is this violent enforcement? He didn’t talk about you, why are you dragging him?"

Lucas immediately added: "Right, I didn’t say you, I was talking about someone else. Let go of me."

Seeing the officer getting serious made Lucas nervous. This hellhole was somewhere he never wanted to spend another night.

Another officer came over and said to his colleague, "Forget it, the tax he needs to pay is substantial; let them go and pay it so they won’t be mooching off the country."

The officer finally let go.

Another officer looked at Lucas and said, "Kid, words can cause trouble. Watch what you say because next time, I won’t step in to help you."

Lucas didn’t offer a word of thanks, restrained himself from rolling his eyes, thinking about how these damn flunkies were just throwing their weight around because they had a bit of authority. Once he got out, he planned to hire some hoodlums to teach these flunkies a lesson.

Seeing Lucas’s expression, the officer slightly regretted stepping in to help earlier. The kid hadn’t learned his lesson.

"Jackie, all your employees came to your house this morning causing trouble. Your grandpa tripped and fell to his death." Mrs. Kane made herself clear this time.

Lucas was stunned for a moment, and after processing it, he suddenly burst into tears: "Grandpa, you died so tragically! How could you leave me like this? I always hoped you’d live to a hundred..."

Seeing Lucas wailing, Mrs. Kane couldn’t help but cry as well.

The two cried in the station, seriously disrupting others at work, but with a family dealing with a death, even when the leader came, there was nothing much they could say, so they just waved them to leave to handle the funeral first and deal with the taxes later.

Outside the station.

Lucas wiped away his tears, showing no sign of being upset.

His eyes darted; those idiotic employees had the nerve to cause trouble at his house, ultimately killing his grandpa. He decided not to pay them for this month, and he’d sort things out with them once he got to the company, docking their pay so they’d be working three months for free.

After deciding, Lucas’s face broke into a smile.

Mrs. Kane heard the laughter and turned around to see Lucas smiling, she paused: "What are you laughing at?"

Lucas replied nonchalantly: "It’s nothing."

Mrs. Kane felt Lucas’s current expression was completely different from how he looked at the police station, but she didn’t say much more and continued: "Your grandpa loved you the most when he was alive, and you need to make sure his funeral is grand, arranging for the best procession in Ravenswood..."

"Aunt, let’s pay the tax first. Did you bring the money?" Lucas interrupted her.

Mrs. Kane was a bit displeased, knowing he only approached her for money. How could she have money?

"I don’t have any. Leon Keane won’t give me any more money. You should sell MicroCredit and use that money to pay the taxes."

Lucas wasn’t willing to, but he realized his aunt really couldn’t get any money from Leon anymore. His aunt was useless.

Lucas’s face turned sour.

Mrs. Kane ignored him, continuing: "I was talking about your grandpa’s funeral. Follow the standards I mentioned."

Lucas scoffed: "He’s gone, so why bother wasting money and effort? Just send him to the crematorium and be done with it."

Mrs. Kane looked at Lucas in disbelief, hitting him: "You ungrateful grandson! Is that something a person would say? Your grandpa loved you so much, and for what?"

Not having slept well last night in the station, Lucas felt irritable when hit by his aunt. He shoved her and shouted: "Enough! If you want a grand funeral, cough up the money yourself. If you don’t have it, then shut up."

Mrs. Kane, pushed to the ground, felt a chill in her heart. Seeing Lucas so impatient and arrogant made her furious. She got up and said: "You ungrateful brat! I’ve given you so much money, and you dare to treat me like this? Give me back all the money I gave you!"

"You’ve already called me an ungrateful brat and still expect me to return the money? Dream on, aunt. I advise you to stop causing trouble. You can still eat a few meals at grandpa’s funeral, but once he’s cremated and buried, you need to leave."

Mrs. Kane’s eyes widened: "What... what did you say?"

"Did you not hear me clearly?" Lucas arrogantly said, "It’s simple: after grandpa is buried, leave immediately. You’ve married into the Kane family, you’re not part of the Price family. I have no obligation to support you in your old age."

Lucas was shrewd. Even Leon Keane knew Mrs. Kane wasn’t his biological mother. Now that the Kane family matriarch and Ivana Monroe didn’t acknowledge her, what would happen to her future in retirement?

He certainly wasn’t going to let Mrs. Kane latch onto him.

"You... you this..."

Mrs. Kane shook with anger, her words catching in her throat.

"This ungrateful brat, right? Yes, that’s exactly what I am," Lucas taunted, knowing it would infuriate her.

Mrs. Kane was so enraged she spat a mouthful of blood.
